engineer said he was about a month out. I said ok, I could wait. Contacted in a month to follow up - then he said he wasn't interested in the work

Jay Kushner came out to our home, took a few measurements and promised to provide an electronic report of beams and column sizes to be used because of load bearing wall removal. He DID NOT provide these promised documents, DOES NOT return phone calls. It has nearly been one month since "service date" and has cashed our check and disappeared. This guy is a scammer and should NOT be trusted!

They came out and they were very professional. They went underneath the house and looked at some things and made some suggestions. He gave me an overall report at the end. I would recommend them.

Jay inspected all rooms in the house, measuring grades of the floors, door trims, beam supports in basement, concrete integrity of foundation, etc. He gave us a lot of pointers in things he was finding, and then wrote up a full report including diagrams and statistics. He offers both a verbal and a written report - we chose the written report which was more expensive but totally worth it in my opinion (to allow us to make fixes as well as show proof to future buyers of what's already been inspected).

I was very pleased. They are extremely professional, patient, and punctual. Came up with great suggestions for solving problems and useful advice. I had total trust in their engineering expertise. The project would have been much less expensive, but I made a lot of changes, due to my inexperience and the fact that our architect was horrible and gave poor guidance and advice. They are not inexpensive, but worth every penny. Paul Albertine and Glenn Wilson were friendly and wonderful to work with.

Les, was very precise about the structural requirements for our new house in order to meet safety requirements and building code for our seismic zone (D). He was very thorough, punctual and answered all our questions in an easy to understand manner. When the county building permit office had some additional requirements, he met those without any problems (though he charged for the extra work). He did charge hourly and billed for every single hour (no freebies) and also charged separately for the CAD files for our project. Other than being a stickler for charging for his time, he was extremely knowledgeable about building practices, easy to reach by phone, and provided very well made CAD drawings for our project.

I was given the name of a couple of engineers and I was able to get the help I needed quickly in order to get a building permit. Got the permit and I am in the process of getting a new studio!

Jay arrived promptly at the scheduled appointment time. He was friendly and personable. Jay had me accompany him as he performed the inspection, and explained the significance of what he found to me. He is very knowledgeable about structural engineering, and willing to take the time to explain his findings in plain English. At $180 for a verbal report, his fee was very reasonable.

Jay called me back within two hours, and throughout the 5 minute conversation, considered numerous alternatives which would eliminate the need to engineer the wall. In the end, we found that I had measured incorrectly (the wall was only 4' tall), and Jay charged nothing. Great guy to talk to, generous with his time, and definitely had me, the customer, in mind (he found a way for me to accomplish what I wanted without needing his services). True customer service! side note: Because the sum total of his work was the phone call, I am saying that he did the work....because he did!

SKYLINE CONTRACTING LLC
5.0
Skyline Contracting did an excellent job for us on a recent basement project in a vintage home which included two complex egress window installations. We found them to be reliable, accurate, and reasonably priced. As the home was built in 1911, there were some unexpected challenges to figure out and we found this contractor to be very receptive and cooperative to make everything perfect throughout the project. We can highly recommend Skyline Contracting and would work with them again.

Recent Review: Hans built us an amazing Chicken coop (house and connected run) on time and on budget. We will absolutely hire him again for future projects. The quote and design considerations were extremely thoughtful. He covered details that I hadn't even considered to ensure he was creating a safe and healthy environment for our chickens. Hans was communicative throughout the entire process and talked us through a number of small project changes during the build. The final product is really outstanding. Amazing craftsmanship and great attention to detail. The coop is extremely sturdy and looks beautiful. It has withstood at least one attempted break in by a raccoon and many curious cows pushing and leaning on it with no damage at all. Our chickens are happy and sleep safely thanks to Hans.

Recent Review: Trevor Nelson helped design the new bathroom and provided expert guidance throughout the extensive remodel. His design made the most of the relatively small space. He was conscientious about re-using materials, when available, and collaborated skillfully with subcontractors, successfully advocating for us when necessary. He worked with a talented finish carpenter whose work continues to impress us. The final outcome exceeded our expectations. I trust Trevor and Tenco Design and had no qualms about handing over the house key. The team is also conscientious about pets. This is the second time we used Tenco Design for a major bathroom remodel and I would happily hire him again.

What do customers in Portland say about Retaining Wall Installation?

This was largely an assessment of the structural issues of the property. We conversed easily and there was a clear understanding of the recommended actions to correct the deficiencies, whether through Seismic Technologies, another recommended contractor, or ourselves. I am currently awaiting for an estimate for the earthquake retrofitting work and I need to contact the other contractors for other identified issues.
