We met with Ivan, who gave us a bid, which was in the middle of the price range. He promised that we would be happy with the job his crew would do, and did not require any deposit. We ran into some major dry rot which required alot of extra work. Ivan made good on all that he promised and his crew was very respectful of our home, inside and out. I have built 2 homes and Ivan was the best contractor that I have ever hired.

My first impression with DaBelle Exteriors was with their sales team, Alison and Sean. They arrived on time (totally refreshing) and were polite, professional, and had a great depth of knowledge regarding windows and siding. After showing them my bay window and siding issues, both Sean and Alison set out to provide multiple window and siding options, from a "stop the bleeding" and repair only the damage option, to a couple of incremental options, and to the "Look what I just did!" option (full upgrade to efficient windows throughout, and Hardie Board siding for the entire house and garage). In regards to their product, I have to say they do have beautifully designed, well constructed, efficient windows. Alison (the window expert) was able to quickly demonstrate how effective their triple-pane windows are at keeping the house cool on hot days, and warm on the cold ones. The Hardie Board siding is amazing, and perfect for our PNW climate. Also, their installers are all professionally trained and certified, which is why they can offer a real lifetime manufacturers warranty with everything they sell and install. Their prices are on the higher end, but the quality of their products and personnel, and their warranty's are well worth the investment.

We interviewed 4companies when we found that our house needed new siding as well as paint. The salesman for Lifetime Exteriors was prompt, professional and knowledgeable and the price was more inclusive than the other companies we had interviewed. The work was done beautifully and on time. All workmen on the job were courteous and easy to communicate with. We would recommend this company to others without reservation

Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse

Worst experience ever....and unfortunately it's not over yet. Mid-May Lowe's came to my home to provide a bid for Hardy board siding and a deck replacement. The sales person seemed nice enough and spent a good amount of time outside the house measuring and assessing the work that needed to be done. We were please with the verbal quote he provided and on the spot chose to move forward with contracting for the work to be done. We selected colors, discussed timelines and signed a contract for nearly $20,000 worth of work before the Lowe's sales person left the house. The contract included an estimated timeline that work would begin on or around 6/20 and be complete by 6/30. It is August 2nd and NOTHING has been done, NOTHING. What has transpired is hours of wasted time and fruitless conversations with Lowe's and the contractors (hired by Lowe's). We have been given a variety of stories: the siding and decking contractors will work simultaneously (start 6/20, finish 6/27); the siding is not in yet; oops, the deck bid was based on cedar, not Trex, increase of $2k; the decking contractor will complete his work prior to siding: the siding guy wants to complete work before the decking guy; the siding contractor informs us he was never told of a decking project; siding guy tells us the decking guy is on vacation through August 1st (this was in the beginning of July); siding guy tells us that Lowe's has overbooked him and that he wont be able to start work until mid-September at the earliest; Lowe's store manager tells us the decking guy will start work 8/2 or 3 "without fail" and is very apologetic that we are not satisfied with the experience (offers NO concessions); weekend of 7/30 we try unsuccessfully to reach the decking guy to confirm his start of 8/2; 8/1 we reach the Lowe's salesperson who tells us the decking contractor has been dismissed by Lowe's because his work was not up to snuff and that a new decking contractor would be in touch with us next week about a start date. The only thing that has started is the billing for the work (18mos same as cash financing). So very disappointed in this experience.....all I can say is, BUYER BEWARE.

Edwards Siding, LLC
5.0
I recommend Edward and his crew with whole-hearted enthusiasm! They came and removed my vinyl and cedar shingles, replaced it with hardie board and cedar shingles, added custom trim, built two gabled porches, and then painted/stained the new product. They also installed all the outdoor porch lights. They were wonderful: excellent craftsmanship, friendly, creative, clean, punctual, and a joy to work with. I loved that Edward and their team were genuinely excited to make my house beautiful. They not only listened to my ideas, but also contributed some of their own creative options that I had not considered. As a result, I have an exterior that I love even more. Working with them was one of the best home improvement decisions I've ever made.

Recently bought a house built with hardie plank siding in ~2005 and I knew that the hardie wasn't put up to code. I called many different places and found that Jonathan at Straightline was the most knowledgeable when it came to hardie and its installation (I had done extensive research on it so I knew). He came out and gave me a great quote....I had them start a little late in the summer (beginning of fall), but once they finished bringing the house up to code (installing correct z flashing on trims, etc, removing only the boards to fix up to code)...I was very happy. The only issue I had was that I was led to believe that the painting would be done sometime shortly after the siding job, but once the siding job was done....I found out I was ~3rd or 4th on the list for painting. After waiting for ~1month, I found another painting contractor who could do my house over a two nice day period and they let me out of my paint contract...which I appreciated. I loved the bid process and siding job with them, however I would have liked to know where I would stand with painting prior to having a job started as it was getting into winter and I wouldnt have done the job until spring if I couldnt get my house painted.

As far as we can tell, the siding looks good and we are pleased with the result. The project manager was good to deal with throughout the process. When we were seeking bids, Straight Line was extremely professional and gave us a very top notch presentation. That, combined with the pricing, were the reasons we decided to use them. But we had a big bump along the road.... The work was originally scheduled for late June, but had to be pushed back due to their schedule. Unfortunately, the first couple of days of their work intersected with the last couple of days of our vacation and we were out of town when they began. I will NEVER do that again -- with them or any other contractor. On the last day of our vacation, we received a call from the project manager saying that his crew showed up in the morning to work and saw that our house and shop (a separate outbuilding) had been broken in to. The doors had been pried open with a crow bar (conveniently, an item being used to demo the old siding). Several items had been stolen from our home including both TVs, a brand new lawnmower, and several items that belonged to my dad who is no longer with us and are, frankly, irreplaceable. While it hasn't yet been proven by the sheriff's office, it is very difficult for us to not conclude that the break in was related to the siding work. In 25 years of existence, our neighborhood has never had a break in. We were shook up and our neighbors were shook up. Someone was in our home, in our 18-month-old's bedroom, in every room in our house, going through our things, our file cabinet, our drawers. We feel violated and it has marred our whole experience with the siding. Otherwise, there were several annoyances like the crew playing extremely loud music from their truck, working at our house until 7:00 or 8:00 at night, leaving cigarette butts around the yard, etc. that we probably wouldn't have worried about except we were so rattled by the break in that it just added a whole nother level to the project. So, despite their professional presentation of the bid and the amiable project manager, we are glad to have our property back to ourselves and the siding project completed, and we hope the person that broke in to our home is caught ASAP.

DAVID MCGEE CONTRACT SERVICES LLC

The project did not go very well; however, in the end, it turned out as expected. It was originally estimated to take 6 days and ended up taking 4+ weeks. The rain gutters had to be modified after they were installed, the stucco finish over the Hardi-board had to be redone due to cracking within 1 week of installation, the subcontractors used and damaged our tools, and the list goes on. The only parts of the project that went smoothly were the replacement of the roof, and the electrical upgrade, even though the electrical contractor failed to show up for his scheduled appointment. Based on the reviews of this company, we had expected the work to be stellar and were hoping to have found a Portland-area contractor whom we could contact over and over again. While the work was completed as expected we likely will not contact this company again due to the many issues encountered with this project.

Lifetime Remodeling Systems LLC

TL;DR Choose Lifetime Remodeling Systems for your siding and/or window replacement. Project: We had a complete tear off of existing siding (rotting masonite) from home and detached garage, replacing with Hardie board, replacing 1980s aluminum frame windows with new Milgard Tuscany vinyl windows and paint. We asked for estimates from many different companies, met half of them and received 4 actual quotes. After much discussion with all the info we had, we chose Lifetime Remodeling Systems. Ralph, the co owner, gave us the initial presentation and he also gave us the basics and history of the company too (Gino took over later). Gino went over the materials and on how everything would be done, etc. He gave us his estimate quote and there wasn’t any pressure to accept on the spot which we appreciated. Pushy companies made us uncomfortable. The quote wasn’t the least expensive nor was it the most expensive, but it’s still pricey work. The one thing that Gino emphasized was that they have crews that have been with them for a long time. I was skeptical, but this turned out to be the absolute truth. We were also given a complimentary service for color consultation that helped us decide what paint to go with on the house. That worked out well and we appreciated it very much. The dumpster was delivered on the 5th of Sept. and later the “honey bucket” for the convenience of their workers, Juan and Jose who arrived on the 6th of Sept., and they kept delivering great work ethic and kept at it till the final touches on the 25th of Sept. They are incredible workers. Jaime was the lead and his vast experience was very important to us. We relied on him heavily and trusted his judgement. We gratefully followed his advice. They are men of high integrity and they are very skilled in their work. I found them to be highly trustworthy. They started work as soon as they could and were always on time and when they thought that they could use a Saturday to finish their project, they did just that. They always cleaned up at the end of the day. The window replacement was the most invasive part of this. But this was completed in 2 days and they made sure that dust was completely contained to the exterior (the new Milgard Tuscany windows are deeper than the old aluminum ones and the finished sill needed to be cut back all the way around). They know that water is the enemy and they did all the right things to make sure that water does not penetrate the exterior. They have been in business for a long time and they warranty their work for as long as we own the house. So in a nutshell we are happy with the company's performance and their medium range cost. They delivered and our house has a beautiful new exterior.

Erin Isle Construction Inc
5.0
I am the pickiest customer a builder could have. I focus on the smallest details. Erin Isle has done 2 land houses for me and one floating house over the last 18 years. This last project was my largest by far. I had Steve Rumph (President of Erin Isle) do a complete customized exterior on a $2400 square foot home that included fireplace installation, Oak sliding door, new windows, new showcase entry, massive covered porch with stonework pillars and stonework across the full length of the home. Hardy board siding was chosen with a new staggered width pattern. Every detail was done to perfection. Steve Rumph is a man of integrity and craftsmanship as is his whole team. When I needed changes he made them to specification at reasonable costs. When construction errors were found in the original construction done in 1980 he recommended cost effective methods to resolve them. His project manager, Jerad Smith, was on site every day and very responsive to my nit picking and resolved even the smallest whim. I grew up in the home building trade and know quality when I see it. If you want great value and great quality Erin Isle is your best bet in Portland Oregon.

SFW did a great job on all of the projects that they were hired to do. They worked at several apartments that I own and manage. They replaced old decks, removed rotted siding, installed new stairways, and installed new windows. The workmanship was great and the communication with SFW was good.

I had been told I needed to install flashing on between my cedar shakes and hardiplank - instead of installing flashing they removed a board that was covering the flashing and causing water to run behind hardiplank siding? there was no need to install flashing as it was already there. Installed new wood around frame of windows and caulked all windows that needed it. Painted where removed board over flashing ~ Very polite, very professional - I'd hire them again without a doubt.

Recent Review: Great. I felt the crew from Aylwin treated my house the way I would treat my house. They always left their work area clean and organized before they left for the day. It was very impressive. I would recommend their services! The roof looks great and they installed flashing in some areas that will prevent standing water on our roof. They also did a wonderful job on the wood that needed replacing. Everything looks grand!

The office staff is great to work with, they kept us informed of scheduling and changes. The Project Superintendent of our project, Tony touched bases repeatedly, and the work crews that did the job were incredibly conscientious and polite to residents as they went about their work. Their followup a week later to make sure they got all loose nails and debris removed is admirable. We highly recommend this company.

Recent Review: Jose came over on a Saturday to discuss our project and give us a bid. We signed the contract for a new roof and gutters the following Wednesday and work began the very next day. Impressive. First, the roof. Israel and Jose arrived early and on time. We found them to be hardworking, professional, friendly and efficient. It took just these two guys, 2.5 days to complete the work in cold, wet weather conditions. We purchased a total tear off of the old roof and chose Malarkey, Legacy (Scotchgard) 50-year Oxford Grey shingles for the new roof. They also installed fascia board around the entire house. Cleaned up the yard after work was completed. We could not be happier with the work and the product. The new roof is absolutely beautiful! Our project was challenging as well. Jose and Israel had to work around an existing glass patio cover (which is attached to the house) that had to be unbolted and jacked up slightly in order to properly place the shingles. This was tricky because the glass is extremely thick and heavy. Once reattached, they also made sure the area around the bolts was well sealed to prevent leakage. A few days later, Fedencio and Jose installed the new 5k gutters. They too were experienced, efficient workers who got right to work and did a great job. We are pleased to recommend Giron Construction here on Angie?s List. All of these professionals worked on our house as if it was their own home. That gave us a feeling of confidence that the work was done right. We intend to use them on our next project: Painting the exterior of the house.

On a number of occasions he located serious problems other contractors or the builders had missed and corrected them He is also reasonable this is extremely important as we are retired. We have had some nightmare experiences with other contractors Alex is a definite exception. He is a true craftsman, easy to work with and an excellent problem solver. We should also mention that Rob, his assistant is also very knowledgeable and a wonderful painter. I highly recommend Alex as a contractor and would use him again.

Recent Review: Pavel (co-owner and contractor) was easy to work with. He has a great eye for seeing both the big picture of what is possible, as well as the details of the finish work to make it look beautiful. He and all his staff and contractors were very respectful, friendly, and very skilled, hard workers. Throughout the approximately 3 months this project took, I was always comfortable with all of the workers and the care they took with my house. Every concern I had along the way was addressed to my satisfaction. Both the process and the results were better than I expected. When I was out of town for several weeks, Pavel sent me frequent photos of the work that had been.. Polina guided me through the planning process in a way that reduced my stress level, as I had to make choices of items I had never thought about. And Rachel was always available to answer questions and check out information for me via phone or email. This project turned out even better than I had imagined. Family and friends who have been involved in remodeling are amazed at the results. I would definitely hire Let’s Remodel for future projects, and would recommend them to anyone looking for high quality work. The pictures below show before and after views of part of the project.

Recent Review: We met Bryan from Royal Remodeling when he stopped by to get pictures and information for replacing our gutters. The time between contacting Royal and meeting Bryan was only a day, so we were very impressed with his attention to the customer. After meeting with him and discussing the gutters, I brought up that we also would like an estimate for replacing the roof, and he was immediately helpful with that at the same time, gathering that information and arranging a satellite image for accuracy. Bryan sent us the estimates within a couple days, along with photos of other roofs with the same materials. We asked him to stop by to sign the contracts the next day, and he let us know that they would be able to begin work in about 3 weeks. Bryan arrived with his crew on time, and they began work. The crew was amazingly competent and efficient. The old roof was torn off and the new roof installed in only 2 days, along with a new overhang for the back porch, which was custom built by one of the talented crew members. It looks awesome. The next week, another crew arrived to custom build the gutters, and that only took a few hours. We could not be happier with our experience, and the friendliness and skills of the entire crew - we have recommended Royal Remodeling to several neighbors who have already been contacted for services. Our thanks to Bryan and the whole team. The roof looks great now and will last us for decades!

Recent Review: Valley Roofing just completed a re-roofing job at our house. All three bids we obtained were roughly the same. The house is one-level, 1800 sf, plus a large garage, so the roof is pretty big, with three valleys. Our old roof was 26 years old, made of concrete tile and had begun to fail and leak in several places. In converting from concrete to composition roof, the gutters had to be lowered and the fascia boards cut down, adding labor. The new roofing material is Certainteed Northgate. The re-roofing job came with all new flashings, vents, drip-edges, etc., and inspection of roof plywood. At every step of the process, communication with project manager Joe has been excellent. I'm not a roofing expert, but the new roof looks great and I have confidence that the crew installed it with skill and expertise. The job took two days. Since the gutters were removed and reinstalled they need to be re-sealed at the corners. This needs to wait until dry weather, and so the company owner Jon has promised to return in spring to reseal the gutters at no extra charge. This attention to detail and thoroughness leaves me feeling good that we trusted Valley roofing with such a major job on our home.

Recent Review: Randy and his team did an excellent job. They were extremely professional and the work was done without a mishap. When it was discovered that there was a leak from the roof that needed to be repaired, Randy worked with me and changed his schedule to accommodate the time that the roofers needed to complete the work. He did not want to install the insulation or drywall until he was sure there were no further leaks. I appreciated his thoroughness and attention to detail. We agreed on a date and he returned as promised to finish the job. The invoice was detailed and the price did not change. He explained everything that would be done and how it would be completed. I worked from home during this time and he and his team were always pleasant and worked around me and my dogs! Most importantly the job was done with the utmost care and it looks great! I would highly recommend him and have already discussed future remodeling plans that I'd like him to handle.

They were busy at the time and it did take a few weeks to get into their schedule, but it wasn't urgent at the time. What do customers in Portland say about Hardie Board Siding Installation?

I hired Revive Exteriors after getting new siding and painting bids from six other siding companies - and it couldn't have been a better decision. Unlike other companies that provided bids, Tony took the time to explain every detail of the job and was happy to educate me when necessary. Having your home siding done can be daunting, as there really is no effective way of knowing what lurks behind your current siding (think dry rot). While other companies simply stated "extra charges" for resolving any dry rot found, Tony was able to surmise from inspection that there would be little to no dry rot... and he was right on the money. I had to gauge my budget based on his expertise... needless to say I was able to stay within my budget! The amount of detail the Revive Exteriors crew put into their job left me breathless. I literally could not find one problem with any of the work they performed. These folks aren't simply "workers", they are artists! I spoke with each of his team members and can say these are not men pulled from a "labor ready" office. Each is a professional in his own right and it is apparent that Tony takes good care of them (happy workers means great finished product!). Even after all was said and done, Tony still took the time to follow-up with me regarding any concerns that I might have. At this point my only concern is for anyone looking for siding work that has not learned of Revive Exteriors. Honest. Professional. Dependable. Cost effective. Patient. All around good people to work with and indeed, a pleasure. Our house never looked better and we have Tony and his fabulous crew to thank for it! Project Specs: 2 story 2100 sq. foot home with attached garage.
