Reviews in Portland for Building a Gazebo

On-Site Assembly Pros
5.0
Ted assembled our new BIG Costco metal gazebo... BY HIMSELF! It was amazing watching him work. He is so professional and organized! He clearly has a lot of experience and it shows - he lays everything out, double and triple checks things, brings all the equipment and tools he'll need and he doesn't mess around. The online reviews for our gazebo had one constant complaint - how difficult it was to assemble. We would have never guessed watching him! We are so pleased with his work. In fact, after watching him work and with how reasonable his prices are, my husband decided to hire Ted back to build sheds that he was going to do himself.

HIGHFILL CONSTRUCTION INC

I called Mr. Highfill in advance of purchase of the deal on Angie's List. I asked him if he could assemble a gazebo in the 8 hours alloted to the deal and emailed him the specs. He told me he could and if they had time left over, they might be able to do some other job. Gazebo was assembled as agreed when I came home from work. TWO WEEKS later, with no notice, I received a bill for an add'l $190 for extra time. He sent a very young man with no experience to start the job; young man reported Mr. Highfill would be there by lunchtime. When I reminded him of our conversation re: time requirements, he said "Pay the bill or I will go to small claims court." I paid it, but would not use him again.

We asked PR to build a cedar gazebo and paver patio in our backyard. PR spent several hours measuring the property and then came up with a design that we liked; they didn't mind when we asked for several iterations and also didn't mind when we scaled back some of the project, e.g. we'd also wanted to install a rain garden but decided to wait a year. They were very responsive and the work was finished on schedule. We used the gazebo all summer; it's really given our backyard some needed character. We've recommended them to our neighbors and plan to use them again.

HARDLINE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION INC
5.0
Hardline Design and Construction was easy to work with throughout the project from competitive bid through completion of project and removal of all debris in a timely manner. Owner, Adam Lucas was consistently punctual, congenial, and professional; he also visited the site daily to ensure proper subcontractor progress on the project. Hardline Design and Construction built a Japanese gazebo-style cedar grape arbor supported by pressure treated 4x4s set in concrete. They built a cedar arched trellis for my established row of robust evergreen jasmine vines. Both structures were to replace rotted original trellises that Hardline Design and Construction also demolished and removed. It was a difficult space for the workmen, as my old thorny rambling rose that I insisted they save was very robust and had grown through the original grape trellis to top of adjacent garage roof. They also installed new decorative wire dog fences with metal rod supports along entire long driveway from front to back of property, since my garage is at back of my property, to keep my American Greyhound off extensive flower beds along side of back garden. They used chainsaw, pruned, and removed massively overgrown saplings and large ancient rhododendron shrubs that obstructed all of Hardline Design and Construction’s work in the back garden. They also installed a large oval raised herb and vegetable bed in back garden with 2-feet tall decorative curved concrete block surrounds, and removed the two old rotten wood raised bed frames that it replaced ($9,750).

DAVE SQUARED ENTERPRISES LLC

I found Dave on Angie's list. First you are going to just LIKE him. He's an easy going and very likable person. His estimates were right on and very fair. Meaning I was never overcharged. He's done several projects for us on a new home in need of a lot of major work. He is timely, considerate, does nice work and tries to save you money. We have every intention of giving him another call when we're ready for the next step in our project. In fact, he was so good I didn't want to give him this great review until we had all the major stuff done just in case my review made people call him and he wouldn't have time for me. Now that I'm done for a while, be sure to give Dave a call and you won't be sorry.

Errin was wonderful. He returned my call for a bid right away and met me soon after. He made cost-effective recommendations and gave me an itemized, written bid shortly after. He and his crew did a very high quality job--no complaints at all. I will definitely hire him again.

Swanco Inc
5.0
I am a landscape contractor with 23 years of doing business in the Portland area with over a million in sales. Quite often a new landscape involves more than just plants. Over the last 10 years Swanco has become our #1 builder of outdoor structures - spa covers, gazebos, trellises, pergolas, carports, sheds, porches, decks and home additions. Swanco has also done multiple concrete pours - walkways, driveways, and walls. They also do finish work like siding, painting, staining and moldings. Bob Swan and his crew are incredibly fast, reliable and courteous and the work is always top notch.

The work is gorgeous, Chris Brown is an artists at his craft. He obviously has many talents. He really listens to what you want. The final product on all projects, came out better than I expected. He even took the time to give me advice on some other projects I was doing myself.

Ed Gause Construction
5.0
Beautiful detailed work, accurate fixed costs -and a free side order of humor! Ed Gause, Lake Oswego, OR delivers composite decks that are both beautiful, well crafted, and on budget. What more do you want in a deck person? Everything I wanted was implemented with attention to detail. I received a fixed cost bid that included all foreseeable materials and labor. But be prepared for the cost of materials. Ed normally does smaller projects but after careful consideration Ed decided to take on my large project. Our main patio, along with the fence running the entire length of my dog run is a monster! It is an expansive two level deck with a full set of stairs leading up to a gazebo on the top level. See photos. It was also was in need of some structural repairs as well. In our opinion, its one of the best-looking patio we've seen. Next was the small deck off of our master bedroom -on the second floor! It also needed additional structural joists to decrease the floor board spans. Miters and enc cuts were sharp and clean,. Then after painting all the end cuts, the composite lumber blended into a seamless, flowing wood like appearance. See photos. Sil & DIane Davis

Chick of All Trades and C.O.A.T. Flagging
5.0
The jobs went very well. We initially contracted Chick of All Trades to do our bathroom, and have been bringing them back ever since for additional work. They have done impeccable work, always at a very reasonable cost, always on time or earlier. Because we live outside of Portland, it is often hard to get contractors to come back; Chick of All Trades had no problems, showed up when they said they would, and keeps coming back when we need them.
