GREAT! Josh and Everett built a beautiful wood deck over the porch. It's as solid as a rock and it looks better than the original. The price was very reasonable.

Decked Out Builders

Over the past four years we have had several competent contractors with good reputations give us quotes on a new composite deck to replace our existing wood deck that follows the contours of the rear of our 75-year-old home. Each contractor basically gave us a bid to replace our existing deck, but only responded with different design features after some prompting from us. Glenn from Decked Out had an entirely different approach that we embraced right away. Once we told him we were tired of our existing design, he wandered around the back yard by himself for about 30 minutes and came back with a very creative design that made use of contrasting colors, different levels and entirely different design from the existing deck. He totally redesigned our existing outdoor shower, doubling the size and creating a separate private drying area, complete with shelving of a contrasting color. My 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter, who just started talking, is thrilled with the shower. Even though construction was just completed in the middle of winter, each time she comes over she runs outside to the shower and exclaims “this is MY shower” and pretends to wash her hair. The shower is really cool. The crew who did the work, headed up by Mike, were very professional and cleaned up each day despite having to work through, and around, many days of miserable sloppy wet weather. One day I asked Mike if he would prop up a couple pieces of scrap wood against my shed's door so it would be easier to roll my lawn mover in. Next day I saw he had used the scrap wood to construct a ramp that looks nicer than the shed. In the few instances things turned out a little different than we had envisioned, Glenn cheerfully listen to our comments and without objection, proceeded to make the change, and politely declined when I offered to pay any additional cost he incurred. For example, when I suggested that the deck bench seemed a little narrow, Glenn himself removed the bench, took it home, and rebuilt it with contrasting colors and even added an intricate inlay design into the seat, neither of which I had requested, or even dreamed of. When the color for the contrasting color decking material that was to be used to frame the outside edge of the deck turned out to be discontinued, Glenn gladly provided replacement material at no additional charge, even though the replacement material cost him twice as much. Glenn responded to every single email, text or call of mine within a few hours. When he said he would do something, he did it, and on time. And the price was very fair based on comparisons. If you select Decked Out for your new deck, I promise you will be pleased.

Because we knew this would be expensive, we wanted it done exactly right so we wouldn't omit something that we would later regret not having. Craig (co-owner and salesman) quickly grasped what we generally wanted and offered suggestions as to what could be done to add both functionality and beauty as well as alternatives that could keep the cost down. He also offered us decking from several companies. (We went with Fiberon instead of Trex which is the product most people are familiar with.) He was able to walk us through the planning, explaining things like building code requirements. He took care of getting the required permits, including a wetlands related zoning approval that we needed due to a nearby tidal creek. The work started as scheduled and noticeable progress was made each day. The team was professional and respectful. They were punctual, worked hard all day and never left a mess. Craig kept us informed of progress, especially when weather caused delays. The deck turned out beautifully, even better than we had imagined. Best overall experience I have had with a contractor. We have already recommended them to friends and will definitely do so again.

Jim called within hours of my request and scheduled an appointment the next day (on a Saturday). He arrived on time took a look at the deck and gave me a quote all within minutes. He performed the work within a week with another worker, completely finishing the work in two days. The deck looks fantastics an I no longer have to hold my breath everytime I set foot on the deck. I highly recommend Jim. He was professional and you can tell he definitely knows what he is doing.

CASA DECKS
5.0
This was single-handedly the best experience that I have had with a service provider since moving to this area over two years ago. The owner, George, is one of the most honest businessmen who I have ever dealt with. He came to our house to prepare an estimate only a few days after I contacted him. Immediately, upon his arrival, he introduced himself, showed me a copy of his license, and gave me a short but informative packet about his company. Then, he took one look at my existing deck and said he could not, in good conscience, install a replacement deck. Needless to say, I was shocked by his comments and asked him to explain. He told me a deck should have never been built in my backyard in the first place because there simply is not enough clearance to ensure the deck has sufficient airflow to prevent mold and rot. Additionally, he told me a new deck would cause significant drainage problems due to my house being on a slab with insufficient space for water to properly run-off. His comments resonated with me because existing drainage problems in my backyard are one of the main reasons why I am looking to replace the deck. George recommended that I consider replacing the deck with either pavers or stamped concrete. He then spent about 15 minutes discussing the pros and cons of each. Please keep in mind - his company does not provide either of these services. So yes, a man who sells decks for a living spent his valuable time with me going over other options that were much more suitable for my yard. Amazing. Ultimately, he provided me with a recommendation for a paver company that he routinely works with. George's honesty and integrity were refreshing at a time when I feel most (but not all) service providers are trying in one manner or another to take advantage of me. In fact, I had one deck company (which will rename nameless) try to sell me an $10k replacement deck, which is just criminal. Even though I did not use their services, my experience with Casa Decks was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend them.

METRO WOOD WORKS INC

Steve and Shane built us a 20' X 34' Trex deck with black aluminum railings and two sets of stairs. Construction took a little more than a week including the demolition and removal of our original wood deck, new concrete footers and framing. Trex is not inexpensive, However, it looks great, should require little or no maintenance and, there are no splinters! We're very satisfied with the deck and would hire Metro Wood Works again.

Old deck boards were removed, existing joists were reinforced and PVC boards were installed on the deck and existing ramp. Mr. Norman was very easy to work with in planning what needed to be done within my budget. His crew was efficient and cleaned up at the end of each work day. The old deck boards were removed on Monday and the work was completed by Friday. I am very pleased with the end result.

Decked Out Builders
5.0
From the start this was a spectacular experience. We enthusiastically recommend Glenn Stagg and Decked Out for any deck project. His technicians, Mike and Eric, are two of the most professional and pleasant individuals we have ever had the pleasure to work with. Glenn first came for an estimate. He was very professional. He didn’t simply ask what we wanted, but made recommendations as well. Some suggestions were different than what we’d wanted. He didn’t simply agree if he felt strongly, but had an open-minded discussion with us to make decisions. This process continued throughout the project, including Mike and Eric, who asked questions and made recommendations throughout, to be sure we not only had what we wanted, but also what they thought was best. After Glenn made an estimate, he was able to get the project started more quickly, and at a similar or better price, than several competing estimates. He got a permit from the city, which was delayed a bit as we had not previously gotten neighborhood HOA approval. The demolition had already started, which was great in the interest of time, but concerned us that we would have no deck at all for a longer time (to let our dogs out, etc). That was only a minor delay, that we could’ve avoided by requesting HOA approval before starting. They demolished and removed our old deck and replaced it with a 500 sq ft Azek deck including benches, planters and steps, as well as lighting. Glenn, Eric and Mike had recommendations along the way regarding trim, lights, steps, and posts that led to a beautiful result, the details of which we would not have designed on our own. They were incredibly personable and professional, and left every day having cleaned up, leaving our place looking better than when they arrived. The project took 4 weeks, which was longer than I’d guessed, with some delays from weather and the HOA issue. We also slowed them down a few times, asking them to re-work a few things which weren’t exactly what we wanted (not knowing what to ask until seeing it done sometimes). Despite all this, they finished before the deadline I had asked them to meet. The final price was exactly the same as the estimate ($19000). We’d agreed that any lighting would be above the total, and the lighting prices were exactly as Glenn predicted (13 lights with transformer, timer and installation for about $1300). We have lived in many homes in our 30 years together, and have worked with many excellent contractors. This is comfortably the best experience we’ve ever had.

George Ronan Power Wash/Roof Wash
5.0
George Ronan is the only person I call to power wash my home or deck. I've used him for several years after purchasing my home in 2000. He and his team are prompt, courteous and detailed in the work performed. My wood deck had rails and each are cleaned perfectly. When they are done pressure washing, they had me look over the work to ensure I was satisfied. He offers competitive prices, the lowest I was offered. I trust him and his work and he will continue to be my first contact for work.

Recent Review: Gabriel was very responsive in providing an estimate/proposal. We struggled with scheduling due to weather - rain and temperature. Once weather cooperated, work was scheduled. Both the cleaning and painting crews were timely and diligent workers. They were careful in protecting plants surrounding the deck and in planters on the deck. Work was completed on time and budget. Have received numerous compliments on the appearance of the deck..

Recent Review: It went great. I've used Harvey in the past and found him to be one of the most honest and fair individuals I've ever met. He never leaves a job until his customer is satisfied with the work. The first job he did for me involved replacing and repainting several areas of rotted cedar shake siding on the outside of my home. The work was far more extensive than either of us realized. Harvey was more than fair when pricing the additional work; and in fact, he probably walked away from my first job with him taking a loss. Last Fall, I purchased an Angie's List "Big Deal" offered by Harvey and Master Painters. It was a great deal wherein he offered to paint an interior room of generous dimensions for $99. Because of other construction problems going on in my house at the time, I was not able to make the February expiration date. I contacted Harvey and he agreed to give me a credit for that amount when he came to do my next job. When he came to my house to give me an estimate for the work described above, he was as good as his word and generous in applying the credit. In addition, since I agreed to purchase the deck paint during a Sherwin Williams sale, he did not ask for a deposit or downpayment on the job. When they started the work in May, they power washed the decks and did an excellent job. In addition, Harvey's right-hand man, Al, did the interior painting and caulking. Because they were backed up on outside jobs due to the Spring rains, they were not able to come out to perform the deck painting until around June 15. I was out of town. If my neighbor hadn't told me they were there, I wouldn't have known it. Not that the deck didn't look great--it did! But they left absolutely no trace of paint, cigarette butts, or any other trash on my property. There was no sign they'd cleaned their brushes on my lawn. My hoses were perfectly coiled and stowed. I have only two very minor complaints. the first is that they did not remove the empty cans of paint--the empty cans were placed back in my shed. I know if I'd contacted Harvey, he would have come back for them, but I didn't mention it when he contacted me about collecting payment. Also, when the interior caulking was done, it wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped for. At that time, Al promised he would fix it when he returned to do the second part of the job. Since I was out of town, they had no way to get into the house to make the fix. Again, it was minor and I didn't make the complaint. To be perfectly honest, I had told Al on the first visit that even though the caulking was not as smooth as I would have liked, and he told me he would come back and fix it, I told him not to worry about it. I have the utmost respect for Harvey and his crew. Master Painters will always be the first ones I call when I need additional work done.

Recent Review: My garden shed and backyard deck were in terrible shape. I was hoping I could avoid replacing both, so I called Val for an estimate on repairs. He responded right away and we set an appointment for the next day. He looked things over and made helpful suggestions about what could be done to fix the problems. He then sent me an estimate that I thought was very reasonable. Val and Sean came to the house within a couple of days and started work. Val rebuilt the doors to my shed and added a trim section around the bottom. After the paint went on, it looks like a completely new shed. Absolutely thrilled with the result. Sean handled the deck, and what a project it was. He had to reset all the nails and added new nails (with anchors) to keep the nails from popping up again. That was a huge project. Then he power washed the deck (600sqft) and applied 15 gallons of Deck Over. That's how bad the deck was. He replaced a couple of boards and added a trim section to the bottom of the deck. A complete transformation. I was quoted 15k for a new deck alone, so doing the shed and the deck for $1,400 was a great deal. Val and Sean were always on time and communicated with me every step of the way. Both were very professional and hard workers. I will definitely use them on another project.

I will definitely look to hire Chris and his team again in the future.
