Reviews in New Orleans for Building Wheelchair Ramps

Downsouth Renovations LLC

We needed a ramp built quickly for a family member suddenly in a wheelchair. Downsouth Renovations did quick, quality work. They squeezed us in even though they were already booked and gave me a good price. They built the ramp such that we won't have to do repairs when we take it out in the future. Highly recommended!

The work went pretty smoothly, the pace was a little slow. The materials were not delivered or brought in the morning all days, but sometimes would be brought to the work site after the crew was already here. This seemed to be loss time to me, but I wasn't paying by the hour, but by the job, so I wasn't really worried about it. I am retired so I could pretty much be here all the time to answer any question the builders had. There were a few questions, such as where do I want the ramp to end, and what color stain to use and the like, all minor personal preference type of questions. The dirt that was dug for the ramp clearances was spread or hauled away, so that that was never a problem. The work went smoothly, working around some rainy days. The only issue I had was that one of the workers was not as attentive as he should have been and some wood went up with the "bad" side facing out. In other words, wood that had blemishes on one side went up with the blemish facing out where you can see it instead of facing in where it was not seen. To their credit, after pointing these out, the wood was either changed or taken out and turned around. Absolutely no argument or problem to get this done, but it did extend the time to complete the job. There was a problem with a top rail that "curled" after sitting a full day in the hot sun, after calling Doug, the problem was fixed the next morning, no questions or hassle. The city inspector came by to do the final inspection and said it was a good job and easily passed it. Conclusion: Some issues with time management (I thought), some issues with not paying attention, (never was "bad" wood used, just wrong face exposed). I have received good reviews from family and friends, especially after I dressed up the outside of the ramp with stepping stones with plants and solar lighthouses on them. After the entire experience, I would definitely not hesitate to use this company again for projects in the future. I was very happy with the outcome of the ramp. The ramp was built with 4 foot clearance for the turnaround to the front door and my handicapped relative moved his wheelchair easily up to and through the front door, and he was happy as well. The finished job came out "better" than I imagined after looking at other ramps in the neighborhood. Overall I thought an excellent job was done.

We contacted Clean Solutions after having been disappointed by several companies that could not meet our requirements or quoted what seemed to us to be very high prices. Benjamin Stuckart of Clean Solutions offered exactly the services we were looking for. He’s extremely punctual, quoted a very fair price, and took the time to be very thorough and careful with both pressure washing and staining the ramp to the mother-in-law house in our back yard. He offered reasonable suggestions (e.g. time to let the pressure washing dry), able to work around a 30-year-old azelia (another wanted to cut it down), and worked on the job for two days. The ramp now looks beautiful. Clean Solutions clearly takes pride in providing top-notch service. We definitely would use their services again, and we give them our highest recommendation.

Cary and his team were terrific! He worked with me on various options to replace an existing wood deck. He and his team showed up on time on the designated start date. He said the job would take 4 days. He finished in the 4 days and cleaned up the site upon completion. My new deck is wonderful! I would highly recommend Cary for his professionalism, punctuality, and excellent product.

I called the company to request an estimate for a ramp to be built for an outdoor storage shed. I told the gentleman I lived in Bush, La. and he said he does work in my area. He said he would call me to let me know when he would be in the area. I told him I could wait. Three weeks later I called back just to check in with him to make sure I was still on the list, nothing more, no pressure for service. I left a message stating those facts. I have not heard from him. This was in the spring, 2013.

When Mr. Scallon came to give us a price, we asked that he include some type of drainage, tree trim, and tree transplant. After we discussed it, we decided to just have the drainage done at this time. One of the factors in this decision was Mr. Scallon's lack of insurance that would cover such a dangerous tree trimming job. The drainage work was done when Mr. Scallon said it would be done. It was done efficiently by Mr. Scallon and his workers. We were glad that it rained heavily that weekend so we could "test it out." For the first time, we didn't have a small lake appear in our backyard. The installation seemed to work We appreciate Mr. Scallon's work so much that we asked for a price on painting our porch, ramp and deck. He and his workers are here today cleaning and preparing the area for painting later in the week. I would definitely recommend his work to anyone.
