Nashville Master Bedroom Remodel

My wife and I are very pleased with the work that Charles and his team did with our master bathroom and bedroom upgrades. They were very professional, and were always willing to answer any questions we had. I would most definitely recommend Gibson Interiors to anyone. We will be using them again in the very near future.

Good experience overall as Paul was attentive in the beginning. We ran into some issues and he corrected. It was a high-end bathroom remodel and a couple of his workers stated that this job "Upped their game." We are particular and they tried very hard to work with us throughout the process. Their cabinet maker is incredible and the woodworking was excellent. The tile work could have been better initially and it was corrected to our satisfaction. We are enjoying the end result.

Almost "miraculously," Sheila and Chaz have essentially doubled the capacity of my master bedroom closet. While previously working on another project for me, Sheila told me about her background as a closet designer. Without much hope that anything could be done about my small closet which was cluttered with basically useless "built-in" open shelves, I asked Sheila to take a look and see if she thought she could help. She looked.....took some measurements.....and said she and Chaz not only could significantly increase the useable space, but could arrange it more efficiently, based on my particular needs. A few days later, she provided a design drawing, with a detailed estimate of costs (including providing some materials that they had on hand at no cost to me). I met them at the store to purchase the needed supplies....and a few hours later I had a "new" closet! AND....it was done at LESS than the estimate! One of the best things about working with Chaz and Sheila is that, prior to and during a project, they assess what is being done from the perspective of your individual lifestyle and needs. When there are choices to be made about even small details, they consult to see which choice would best meet your needs. The "end product" is of highest quality. I highly recommend them!

In our opinion Carl Slate is a horrible contractor. In hind sight we feel that we should have hired someone else. When we first met with him we thought that everything would go well because he had been in business for so long. The problems began when he wanted to refuse to give us a contract that our bank required. He finally relented and gave us a contract which had to be reworded a few times because he insisted on a large down payment. This was red flag #1. Our bank advised us against this. We finally were able to get a contract that we agreed upon but we feel that we should have had a more detailed contract. This is a lesson we have learned for next time. The terms from the bank were that draws would be available every 30 days. He chose to wait a longer amount of time. We feel that he chose to do this because they were behind schedule and he wanted a larger payout. We feel that Carl thinks he can dictate everything that goes into the project and that we would just have to deal with it. We repeatedly had to tell him that we would be deciding what went into our home. When we had to correct or change choices that he made without communicating with us we always stayed within budget even when we decided on choices that he said he couldn't afford. In our opinion he made lots of excuses and sob stories to try to influence us. In our opinion he tried to rush things to get them done faster rather than concentrating on quality or our wants and needs. Because of this several things had to be redone. Specific issues and problems: Paint - Our walls were painted flat sheen without consulting us. We would have preferred semi-gloss because we have small children and need to be able to clean the walls. Our entire house before this project was painted semi-gloss. When we wanted it fixed he refused. The cabinet doors were not removed before painting causing them to have to be repainted because of missed spots. Hardwood Floors - We made arrangements to be out of the house for 5 days while the hardwood floors were installed and refinished. When we returned they had been stained a completely wrong color even though we had given Carl the stain color and the Minwax stain number. We believe that a "chemical etch" was done on this first finishing because of the very strong smell when we expected the entire floor to be finished. When we agreed that the floors had to be redone Carl refused to cover any cost for us to vacate the house for an additional amount of time even though the subcontractor that he had hired was responsible. When we returned after the second finishing of our floors we were satisfied with the color. We do now have chatter marks or waves in our hardwood floors which we are not happy about that we decided to let go because we did not want to have any more conflict with Carl. The last item was that there was a dummy plug installed next to our bathroom sink that was never discussed. We were expecting to have fixed but has not been. When I contacted Carl about this he said that his contract refused to fix it. Near the end of the project we feel that we were treated in an awful manner. He repeatedly threatened to sue us or place a lien on our house when all we were trying to do was make sure everything was done to our satisfaction before the final payout. He even had a person who said she was his lawyer contact us and a voicemail, which we still have. We feel that he rushed and bullied us into paying before we were completely satisfied. When we were arranging for the final payout we asked Carl to provide a list of the subcontractors he used so that we might contact them ourselves if needed which he agreed to. We have not received this list. When I called Carl and asked him why he had agreed and not followed through he said, quote" That was before I got my money." He also said that they do work for private individuals and do not do work without him. We find this hard to believe. We also fear that the warranty that he says he provides will not be honored. In conclusion we are mostly satisfied with the end result of the project but we feel that it was a nightmare the entire time. We would definitely not ever recommend Carl Slate for anything and would advise others against using him. We were very pleased with the subcontractors that did the cabinets, tile, electrical and plumbing. We feel that the guys who work for Carl directly are very nice people and in our opinion may be working for the wrong person.

Fantastic! We could not be happier with the finished product. Goddard Construction did a superb job from start to finish. We took on this addition with a toddler and pregnant wife as we decided we needed more space. We looked first at moving, but then decided to build out on our current home and it was one of the best decisions we could have possibly made. Goddard were responsive from the beginning and everything went great. You have to, as a customer, remain a little flexible in dates and deadlines as Nashville and the surrounding area are under a seemingly big boom when it comes to home renovations, either that, or there is a shortage in skilled quality small scale construction companies. Once construction began, it was well oiled machine rolling through. The crews cleaned up daily, which for us was a big deal, as we have a little one <2yrs old running around. The communication was also a big plus; if we had to stop for a few days to wait on permits, it was always immediately passed on to us. You have to also understand that you can almost never plan to exact dates when dealing with permits and inspections. Lastly, the craftsmanship was outstanding, these guys do great work. From the framing to drywall to paint to the trim out & tile; it was outstanding. We love our home even more now. Julie, Nathan, Paul, Juan Carlos and the whole Goddard team are exceptional. We have been in our new addition for a little over 2 months and it is perfect. Highly recommend. We also installed a completely new HVAC system throughout the entire house and Goddard managed the entire installation of this as well.

I HIGHLY recommend the services of Dawn D. Totty Designs. I cannot say enough about the positive experiences I’ve had with this company. In October, 2013 my husband and I were thinking of selling our home. Our biggest dilemma was our bedroom, a very small odd shaped room. The furnishings were old and the overall appearance was drab and outdated. In ONE day Dawn turned it into a beautiful, inviting space. So comfortable and cozy. We still can’t believe it’s ours! After having such a wonderful makeover experience with our master bedroom we didn’t hesitate to call Dawn D. Totty Designs to help us with our living room/dining room floor plan. This job was more complex and required the removal of a half wall. We could never have visualized the outcome, but knew that Dawn had tons of experience not only with interior design and staging, but overseeing all types of renovation/construction projects. Once again, we were TOTALLY amazed and thrilled with the change. Thanks to her expertise, we now have a wonderful open floor plan and for entertaining! Our next two projects for Dawn D. Totty Designs will be: 1). Renovate our master bath... 2). Have Dawn create a more private and beautiful outdoor deck and patio space for us... And I already know I will LOVE the results!

Its been wonderful. They have been excellent. Dont judge him by this age, he does a great job. He has been fantastic to work with. He has gone above and beyond. I would recommend him to anyone. He finished ahead of time.

He did everything that I expected him to do including buying the doors for me and cutting down 1 small door to fit. He was very professional and respectful.

He arrived on the scheduled day and his team did an excellent job in painting my master bedroom with the paint color and style which I had pre-selected. Additionally, he agreed to move my very heavy bedroom furniture from the downstairs master to an upstairs bedroom and to move the upstairs furniture down to the master. I am so glad we made the right choice with Broderick. They were easy to work with; punctual, professional, and transparent. They started the work quickly and finished ahead of schedule. The estimate we received from them matched up to the amount we paid for the work, and they kept us in the loop about the budget and costs incurred every week. Their team is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and they produced an excellent product. Since the master bedroom and bathroom renovation, we've had them out to help with a plumbing issue in our guest bath - again, the quality of the service was impeccable.
