We looked at several tile installers, and all were so high priced. We already had the tile and grout and just needed it installed. Jim gave us a much more reasonable quote than anyone else and did great work. Would use him again if we ever had tile to install.

James came to home and looked at job. He guided us on the type tiles we need to purchase and suggested some vendors to use. He came out three days. Preparation, placing tiles, grouting. He always came as scheduled, worked efficiently and finished the job as scheduled. The work looks wonderful. This month (Feb 2014) I called him b/c the grouting that connects to the countertop had a couple of places where it was pulling loose. I also asked him to look at our guest bath to repair the grouting next to the tub. He did both and did not charge me. Great to work with

I contacted James and two other tile installers to get quotes for installing 40 feet of a ceramic tile kitchen backsplash. Even though James quote was $125 more than the other two (who had matching quotes of $600), I went with James because I felt for the extra $125 I would get the personal touch that James' company's name promised. The first day, the installer put in 2/3 of the backsplash. A decorative that was to go over the range was on order at The Tile Shop but had not arrived. The second day, the decorative still had not arrived so the installer finished the remaining third as far as he could without it and then left early. ( I paid an additional $100 to have the decorative installed since it wasn't included in the original estimate. The installer did not install it well the first time. There was no grout line along the decorative's bottom edges but there was on the top edges. When I explained this to James, he sent his installer back to recut tile properly so that there was a grout line along the bottom edge as well.) With most of the backsplash up, I could see that there were too many brown tiles amid the light colored ones which I didn't like. I spent several hours exchanging most of the browns for lighter ones. While doing this, I noticed quite a few tiles which the installer had put in that were crooked, or not flush with the surface. or even had too much glue under them so that they were bulging out from the wall, so I fixed them as best I could. This was the very first time I had handled tile myself. The next day, the installer tiled in the decorative which had come in. James came by and stated that he did not take any responsibility for the craftsmanship of the tile installation since I had changed out so many. I understood and agreed. My mistake was that I should have let James know right away that I was not happy with his installer's craftsmanship as well as that I wanted a lot of the brown tile replaced with lighter tiles. I'm sure James would have properly handled both these issues. On the final day of the job, the installer grouted the backslash and signed off, walking away without caulking. I decided to wait until the grout dried to judge if the grout application was professionally done or not. It wasn't. There was not enough of it in most places so that the under-cabinet lighting produced dark, pronounced shadows on the backsplash; there were trowel marks, air bubbles, a couple places where the grout was still glopped on and not sponged off well; and two outlet covers had exposed gaps from badly cut tile. Furthermore, I saw all the flaws with the placement of the tiles, both my work and the installer's. Unfortunately, I had already paid James in full. Another mistake. When I emailed James to ask him to please come and look at the grout job to see what he thought of it, James responded 'in the next couple days.' This was on a Thursday. On Friday. late afternoon , when it became obvious to me that this was not the day he was going to come, I texted him. With no response a half hour later, I called him. W hile his phone rang, I got his text, "I'm busy. Call me later." Eventually, however, James did come and look at the grout job, and I also pointed out my issues with some of the tile placements. To his credit, he came himself and replaced all the tile I was not happy with, even though I had verbally agreed to his disclaimer on the tile work due to my having done some of it myself, and added another layer of grout to the backsplash. Finally, it looked like a professional had done the work. I was relieved. I think James' fixing up the backsplash to my satisfaction was not just a smart business move but also an act of personal integrity. At first, after I had received the text message, "I'm busy, call later'," I believed I was never going to hear from James again, and decided Personal Touch Ceramic had earned an overall 'D' grade. But since James did show up and addressed my issues, leaving behind him a professional tile job, Personal Touch has earned an overall 'B' grade

I initially opted to wash my hands of this company, but after finding out from a friend they’d posted photos of our home as examples of their work on social media, I felt it was appropriate to add our perspective. The final paint job is not their work, it’s mine, because his crew did a horrible job on it. Paint on the ceiling, all over the vanities in both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. I repainted and repaired nearly every surface they touched because whatever compound they used to patch holes started peeling from the walls (although they hadn’t sanded or properly patched to begin with...merely painted over leaving huge marks all over our walls. Some holes weren’t even patched and some screws were left sticking out—see pics.) I found a splattered black mess all over the side of my toilet after they left; wouldn’t scrub off. It almost looked like they cut the bolts down and failed to shield the porcelain. I texted him and after he agreed to replace it, he claimed he didn’t think they’d done that—and maybe they didn’t but there’s no way they could’ve installed it without seeing that all over the side of the piece. Instead of saying something, they put it in anyway and left it. I’m not sure I understand the “attention to detail” others mentioned but that was a fairly large detail to overlook installing a brand new toilet. Jim installed three new faucets for us and all three leaked. They failed to put in gaskets on every single fixture. My dad found two of the three drain pipes for the sinks leaking in the vanities and in the upstairs bathroom--they’d actually installed the wrong size gasket. And they weren’t just a little off; it was twice the size it should have been but instead of going out to buy the correct size to do it right, they shoved it in and left it and allowed us to find and correct the leak they caused. I went to repaint the trim and found deep scratches on our closet doors; then discovered a couple pieces of wall trim they had simply just propped up against the wall--they hadn't even bothered to nail them down! Our kitchen backsplash was a nightmare; he left screws sticking out, the tile was uneven, and the edging around the windowsill was terrible. We had to pay another contractor to come back in and redo what All Trades did. I do NOT recommend this company. Further, the photos he posted were put up on April 28--over two weeks AFTER he walked out of our home and well after he knew how upset and disappointed we were with the quality of his work

Jorge did a fantastic job on our backsplash. We couldn't have asked for a better installation! Our communication leading up to install was primarily text; Jorge was responsive and communicative which made us feel good about having this work done. We provided tile and grout, he provided mastic and all labor/additional requirements. Very, very pleased. Will be using again

It went wonderful. We paid another person to lay a tile floor and it began cracking within a week. They came and tore up the existing floor and laid a new one perfectly. They also put up a new subway tile backsplash in our kitchen. They were prompt, returned calls, and performed the work quickly. I couldn't be any happier

I discovered S&S Tile through Angie's List. We were wanting a marble 3x6 tile backsplash in our kitchen. They were quick to respond to our call and able to show up quickly for a quote. We loved the quote, so from there, he told us where to find our marble for a better price, and the installation was done within the next week. Our marble backsplash looks amazing. It really takes our kitchen renovation to the next level, and we are very satisfied with the quality of work S&S Tile completed. We will most likely be calling them again in the future to tile our bathroom when we get to that project
I was extremely happy with the tile work done by Pharaoh Tile and Brick Designs. They had great ideas and the work was done beautifully in a very timely manner. The communication from them was excellent and I could count on them to do as they had described….very happy with our experience.

We observed a lack of detail through out the project: - incorrect measurements were taken and used -bottom kick plate should have been 6" high, it was only 4" high, so it is not reaching the floor, or the top. Because of this, when the molding was nailed into place, the nails were not actually going into any wood. We have had the trim molding falling off, and have had to glue it back on ourselves. -when the added top 12' cabinets were secured to the existing uppers, they were not shimmed into place. As a result, after the refacing was done, it was very obvious where the original cabinets stopped and the addition was added. -we wre told that scribe molding would be ordered to trim out the back exterior edge of the the cabinets. We never received any. -when they returned the doos and drawers of the bathroom vanity, you could still see areas of the old color coming thru. They did take them back again for another coat, but why not do a good job the first time???? -at the end of the job, not one follow-up call to see if we were satisfied. Just an email asking for payment of the balance owed

My wife and I wanted to make some striking improvements to our home before putting it in on the market. I contacted several contractors and had a hunch that Forrest would be competitive, good and reliable. We chose the 4? stone for the kitchen backsplash (we had none at the time) and Forest did an outstanding job to make our kitchen really ?pop? including a nice design over the cooktop. Then we had him put in new Master Bathroom floor with marble-like 18?x18? tiles which I selected and the improvement was outstanding again, much better than the carpet the builder put in 5 years before. Then we had him refinish and restain our Oak front doors. This led to having him re-polish 1500 square feet of hardwood flooring to a glossy glow and finally a refinish of our deck. It was a lot of labor and we got a bargain. Forest at Known By Design 615.835. 0010 stuck to his quotes, let us know his schedule and was agreeable and entertaining to our three children. If I needed another kitchen or bath renovation or the other things I mentioned, I would have no hesitation to call or email him again. - Dal
Contacted James via Angies and he replied immediately, was able to give us an estimate based on the size of tile area and a photo (VERY CONVENIENT), hired him to do the work and we couldn't be happier. He accommodated our tight schedule of tiling immediately after new countertops went in and prior to appliance installation. Job was a subway tile backsplash wall in kitchen. Will post photos when kitchen is completed. Highly recommend this company
