Porcelite Bathtub Refinishing
5.0
My initial email was answered the next day and an estimate was given over the phone once I gave Dan the measurements. Andy arrived on time on the appointed day and refinished the shower. He did a beautiful job and it looks terrific, cleaned up everything, too. I'd recommend this company to anyone looking to update their bathrooms or kitchens.

I sent an email request one evening and promptly got a call from Andy the next day and we set up a time to come look at my shower. I needed a liner because of the floor cracks and he measured the shower on a Monday and said it would take about 7 days to get the liner delivered. We set up an install date and he completed the work today It looks great and he explained that I needed to wait 48 hours because of some additional caulking he did for me. Andy is great and I really enjoyed working with him. And honestly, he did a fantastic job! Thanks, Andy!

BACKSTROM REMODELING

After contacting other contractors we decided to go with Bryan for the replacement of our shower unit. While finishing up the bathroom I was so happy with the work he had done I asked for an estimate to replace the attic ladder and bathroom fans. The project took a bit longer than expected because of running into some unforeseen problems. The new ceramic tile and shower looks great. Bryan went above and beyond answering my questions as well as giving me pointers on how to keep things properly maintained. I will definitely be hiring Bryan again when I am ready to have the other bathroom redone. I couldn't be happier with the job Bryan has done.

K2 Bath Deck & Kitchen

The project manager, Stphen Clark, was very thorough and clear during the visit where we did the planning and estimate. He provided a number of options for materials and design features and was very flexible with regard to our specific requests such as faucet type and trim levels. Based on our visits from other vendors we were very happy with the service and price. The work was done in a very timely fashion and the trades people were very competent, pleasant to deal with and responsive to our questions and requests. We ran into a few unanticipated issues due to the way the bath was built originally but K2 had no problem addressing them. Overall a great experience. We are extremely pleased with the workmanship and overall results of the project.

The project completed on-time and on-budget. What higher praise can be given? Furthermore, Val and team are professional, personable, and experienced. The quality of work is outstanding, and they consistently did a great job of cleaning up after they were done each day. Val and John were also effective at communicating the various options and obstacles that arose throughout the project. Will definitely hire again.

Bath Fitter

Our new shower is beautiful. We are very pleased with it. From the first sales call to the final installation Bath Fitter was great to deal with. Terry Olson the rep was easy to deal with. He knew his business and made us very comfortable when working with him. He was not a pushy aggressive rep like some other companies that we called. The installer Nate Minion is without a doubt a true asset to Bath Fitter. Nate always called to tell us when he would arrive. His work was done on time and done very well.

Roger and his team were great to work with! He called me promptly after my inquiry, and spent over a hour at our house, going over details of what we wanted to do. We were on both a budget and a deadline, and he worked very creatively with both, actually recommending we NOT do some things we'd considered, and recommending things we had not thought of. Everyone who came to work was friendly and left things tidy at the end of the day. We were delighted with the job, andcwould absolutely work with Plumbline again!

Everything went great! Got Craig's name from Angie's List and he came out to a house we had just purchased to give a quote on a few things we knew we wanted repaired. He always showed up when expected and was easy to work with. Initially had him replace a shower and add a water softener. We were happy with the work so I had him come back to deal with our sump pump and other odds and ends. His prices were really reasonable and he didn't nickel and dime things. He gave flat quotes based on the job and always stuck to it. He always responded quickly to any emails and questions we had. For example, we had decided to upgrade our sump pump system and I emailed him some questions. He stated there were several different options that needed explaining and offered to come out the next day and talk to us about them. Very professional and always felt we were getting what we paid for. He did forget to give us the Angie's List discount on the first job (and we forgot to ask at that time), but when noticed he offered to send us the refund (it wasn't much) or do some other things we had wanted to get done for free. We feel the jobs he did for free were worth more than what he owed us. Very happy with everything he did.

Weld & Sons Plumbing

We contacted Weld & Sons about removing the old fiberglass shower in our basement and installing a new, fully tiled and glass shower. They sent over Russ, one of their contractors to check it out. He had amazing ideas and designs and was so thoughtful and professional. Throughout the entire process, there was complete transparency and good communication from Weld & Sons. There was an issue with the company who manufactured the glass walls and the time to completion was longer than expected, but we were made aware of the issue and timeline at all times and the finished product is BEAUTIFUL! We would absolutely use Weld & Sons in the future and can't recommend them enough! Thank you so much!

Porcelite Bathtub Refinishing

Our bathtub was in bad shape and the bottom had peeled off. Porcelite was very responsive. They answered the phone right away, gave me a price quote and explanation of the service and was scheduled! Guys showed up on time, were thorough and kept everything nice and clean while they worked. The only small issue was that everyone was unaware that the tub had been stripped previously and therefore they had to also refinish the bottom row of the fiberglass shower wall and had to paint it a color that didn't match the rest of the wall. It's a very small difference in color and if you weren't looking for it, you wouldnt realize there was a difference. Our bathtub looks brand new! I would hire them again, there customer service is wonderful.

Dan, who provided the estimate and answered my questions on the initial appointment and Andy who did the work over the three days necessary, were both on-time and courteous. All questions were promptly answered and Andy informed me of the progress during the restoration work. Andy took the time necessary to do the job properly and took extreme care to protect the new wallpaper in the first floor bathroom above the areas where he had to apply Porcelite to the tile. I am very pleased with the result! The tub looks as if it was new!

NORDIC TILE

We noticed that when Andrew completed the floor in the guest bathroom that some of the tiles were sticking up and that the treshhold was uneven. We requested those be corrected and Andrew's helper took care of the problem. When Andrew was doing the demolition of the fiberglass shower in the Master Bathroom he hit a waterline which resulted in water running for approximately 4 minutes. The water damage resulted to $5,600.00 damage to our Kitchen ceiling and walls. We were thankful that Andrew had insurance that covered the damage, but it resulted in more than an six week delay in our bathroom remodel and the added hassle and mess of hiring someone to repair the damage to our kitchen. Update 4/18/2014: The response from Andrew to my review is disappointing. He indicated that he thought I had shut off the water, but he had not asked me if I had turned it off, so I am not sure how he could have thought it was turned off. Andrew also indicated that the plumbing was unusual and not up to code, which is not the case. The plumbing was original to the home and it was inspected when it was done during the construction of the home. The most frustrating part of this ordeal to me was that when Andrew cut the water line, he had already removed half of the shower stall and the water line was visible that he cut. After this ordeal, we did not have Andrew do the tiling of our master bathroom. I hired another tile contractor to do the actual tile work.

Scheduled a prompt visit in order to inspect the tub and provide an estimate, no pressure to commit to service. Very reasonable price, especially compared to replacing the tub. Arrived promptly (to the minute) to begin the work, finished within the estimated timeframe. Provided clear description of the repair process. The finished product looks like it could be original, I'm the only one that would know the difference. So far, very satisfied with the results. The five year warranty (and unofficially perhaps longer) provides peace of mind that the repair will stand the test of time and was worth doing rather than a total replacement. As promised, it was a stinky process (lots of solvent fumes, but there's nothing that can be done about that). You'll definitely want the kids to spend the day elsewhere. Over the course of several days, with outside ventilation, the odor gradually dissipates.

Recent Review: I had this work done a while ago. I sometimes think you should wait a while before reviewing someone to see how the work holds out. I couldn't have been more pleased with this contractor's work. He arrived promptly and didn't push to upsell. He worked quietly and quickly. I am so very happy with the way my tub looks. My only suggestion would be to consider options to prevent the tub bottom from being slippery if you use it for a shower.

Recent Review: Our friend did this for our furniture while we were away. He said it was very easy to use. He followed the instructions easily. The repairs to minor scratches and fading from sun were completely fixed just like the company said it would. You can send in a swatch of your leather color to match, but they have an extensive variet of stock colors. We used the brandy color which was excellent. It takes 48 hours to cure, so that's why we had it done while we were gone. They have a finishing conditioner included that restores the sheen.

Recent Review: The rep was very polite and arrived on time. He estimated the job would be finished in under 4 hours and it ended up being finished in 2 or 3, so I was very pleased with quickness. They paid careful attention to covering and masking the rest of the bathroom as to protect that from the new bathtub finish. The bathtub could be used again in 4-6 hours. I was very satisfied with the price ($525), responsiveness/scheduling and politeness of everyone I talked to at Surface Renew (scheduled the appointment by speaking with Dan). They also left a sheet on how to care for the tub, which I found to be helpful. Highly recommended and would hire again.

Recent Review: It went very well, WAY WORTH the money spent. Every person/ employee I spoke with was very accommodating and helpful. Very professional service from quoting in our home, to the work being performed, to the follow up/ touch up work needed afterward. This was a great solution to update our kitchen counter tops that were still in good condition, but needed a (neutral) color change.

Recent Review: It started with a low-to-no pressure sales meeting with Sally. She showed us our options and lent her ideas but didn't push the expensive solutions at all. Despite not pushing expensive upgrades (or because of?), we chose the white marble pattern, extra tall shower doors and full floor to ceiling corner tower. The white they had didn't quite match the white on our existing tile wainscoting (which is beautiful & we kept it) so rather than have it "close, but not quite matching", we selected the marble pattern upgrade. It was well worth it! John did a fabulous job with the installation, and we couldn't be more pleased. It was all done in one day--and despite the long day it must have been for this very professional young man, he asked for our preferences wherever there were options. Amazingly, in our very small (5' x 10') bathroom he managed to break what needed to be broken without breaking or damaging anything else. The installation is beautiful, functional and --thank you ReBath!!--incredibly easy to clean. Cheers for not having grout to clean, I love it!

Recent Review: If you don't want to read my lengthy report, know this one thing: They are the absolute best at what they do. It's as if some kind of external force zapped them with a magic "whatever" or they drank some kind of secret potion or they made some kind of extra-terrestrial deal with the "Woggles" on Planet "Humblecrumb" that turned them into the painter equivalent of "Superheroes." Here's the long story: We have three premium (read "very expensive") fiberglass entrance doors with leaded glass and an oak pattern that were manufactured by __ okay, I don't really want to write the name of the door manufacturer because I am going to trash them. I'll just call it a fellow or say "Fella" for short. Anyway, these doors needed to be stained to match a specific stain color in our house. Fella did a lackluster job of staining our first set (they looked painted) and they sent us new unstained panels (the door without the frame). I went onto Angie's List and started calling all of the top rated painters. Several of the ones I spoke with (in no particular order, though it was probably alphabetical) sounded like they didn't have much experience with or confidence in staining fiberglass (it's a process that requires a lot of experience in the technique). When I finally called Shelton and spoke with the owner, Todd, he demonstrated a tremendous amount of knowledge about the process and I concluded they probably had the ability to do it right. He said he had a painter on staff who had a lot of experience with staining fiberglass (and making metal doors look like wood). We scheduled a date and on that set day, Dan (the salesperson) and Jim (the expert painter) came out to the house to start the work. The two of them went downstairs where the doors were stored and 5 minutes later they came back up with the can of stain that my wife and I had matched at a local chain paint store (no, I said LOCAL chain). They looked at the base color of the stain with its two injections of tint and the wooden stick that had been stained by the store and said "This is not a match to your color. This is going to be too dark and the wrong type of brown" They wanted to make sure this was done right so off they went to the paint store to get a new match on the stain. (Our kitchen cabinet was the matching item and they took a panel with them.) A little while later, they came back to the house. The salesperson, Dan, wanted to make sure that I would be satisfied with their work and we spent some time talking about details. He expressed that it was important that we, the customers, be happy with their work. The next day they went to the store and picked up the stain. They came back feeling very confident that they had a good match. Jim setup the area by covering furniture with drop cloths, taping protective paper to the floor and the walls and starting the process of cleaning the shelf dust off of the doors. When it was time to stain them, he started by staining a small obscure area and showed it to me to make sure I would be happy with the result. He knew all of the tricks of the process. He brushed on the stain, waited for a while and then wiped it off with a rag. Then he dry brushed it. He stepped back and looked at the door and then assessed where he needed to either apply more stain, wipe, or dry brush. This guy is an absolute perfectionist and very nice too! He did a coat of stain on both sides of every door and left to let it dry for the day. The plan was to apply two coats of polyurethane and wait about 18 hours in between for the coats to dry. That first evening, I got a call from Dan (the salesperson). I had forgotten that I mentioned to Jim, in passing, about my concern with the polyurethane odor. Dan called to tell me that he had researched products and unfortunately since I used an oil-based stain that I couldn't use a water-based (low VOC poly). They were obviously paying close attention to all of my concerns. The next day, Dan and Jim came to the house to put on the first coat of poly. Dan called to let me know that he had called the rep at the stain company (Old Masters) and they were able to direct him to a product with lower odor for the interior part of the doors and that would help reduce the smell. Also, they were setting up fans to help blow the odor away from the main living space. They really went the extra mile to reduce the odor, which was a very classy thing to do. The second poly coat also looked great and we love the doors. They did a great job on the polyurethane coats. Here's the best part: They made these fiberglass doors look like real wood. These guys accomplished what the manufacturer couldn't do under perfect factory conditions. It would be like getting a paint job for your unpainted automobile and the place you went to did a better job of painting than the car manufacturer. Just crazy! I want to leave you with a little analogy as the final part of my fiberglass staining tale: Have you ever watched certain professional tennis players on TV and thought to yourself: "these guys make the game look easy." You and I both know that being great at tennis is not in the least bit easy. It takes a lot of practice just to get good enough to hit the ball over the net 3 times in a row. It's just that when someone is really great at what they do, it makes the thing they are doing look easy to do. Well, this guy Jim makes staining fiberglass look easy. However, there has to be a good reason why the other top painters on Angie's List who I spoke with didn't have much confidence in or experience with staining fiberglass doors. There must be a reason why a major millwork company (Fella) couldn't make their own doors look great with stain. There must be a reason why the internet is filled with stories of frustration from homeowners who tried staining their own fiberglass doors unsuccessfully. I think the reality is that fiberglass doors are very difficult to stain but clearly not for Shelton Painting.
