Reviews in Minneapolis to Install Dog Door

Amazing Husband Handyman Service
1.0
Horrible - $800 for a dog door! Worker made two trips to Home Depot for very basic supplies that he should have had on hand, and then we got charged for the time. The cost for such a relatively simple project was extreme - and of course they were charging by the hour. A rip off and the worse experience from a price gouging standpoint we've ever had - and we've remodeled 10 houses.

Bruce did a great job. We have used him multiple times. Very timely, efficient, great work and cleanup after the job. Price was much better than other bids we got. Also, if he can't do things, he lets us know instead of doing things he isn't competent to do.

Can I just say WOW! Rob's attention to finishing detail was amazing! He was able to salvage trim pieces on the cat door insert so looks like it belongs. Matched aged stain on one side and paint on the interior exactly. One of his real skills is color. He did not teach the cats to go thru it - although he is good with animals so perhaps I should have asked lol? On the deck - he identified I have a carpenter ant problem and replaced boards for safety. He cleaned everything up so I couldn't even tell he'd been there except for the finished work. VERY trustworthy in the home. I've already scheduled him to come back and install under cabinet lights.

Honey Do and More
5.0
Jerry was easy to get a hold of and always polite, professional and understandable on the phone. He showed up on time and brought a 2nd person to help out without charging more. I called a couple of highly rated companies on Angie's List. One came out and looked at the job and estimated 3 hours - $350 to $400. Jerry Robb of Honey Do was able to do it in about the same amount of time, but it only cost $150. He did exactly what I asked and everything looks good. I even had him screw in a lighting fixture that had come loose in a ceiling closet and he did that without increasing the price. I will definitely use him again for future handyman needs.

These guys are great. As part of having WB give estimates on larger jobs, including renovating a closet into a built-in entertainment center/bookcase and the refinish of a basement room and bathroom, we asked if they would be willing to bid and do a few smaller jobs while we decided on the bigger stuff (with no promises that they would get the bigger stuff!). Even though they are not just handymen, they were willing to batch a number of smaller jobs into something that made sense for them to come do and helped us out greatly. They are very pleasant and helpful, have great contacts with vendors and ideas on how to do the work, have been very responsive and have gone the extra mile to finish items correctly and make sure we were pleased. They started our jobs about a week later than promised but were good about keeping us informed of the scheduling changes and that is all we ask! Cleanup has been perfect. I do not have the cost in front of me right now, but it was very reasonable.

Otto & Sons Construction LLC
5.0
We first found Otto and Sons on Angie's List while looking for a company with experience in complete bathroom remodeling. We had already done our homework and had a budget in mind but couldn't seem to find the right fit after several other estimates. We phoned Chris Otto and made an appointment, which he was on time and actually a little early! Always a good sign. We reviewed what we were thinking about and spent a lot of time describing the job and our expectations. He was attentive and made great suggestions on which way to go on some items and helped educate us on different products and options to consider along the way. He returned the estimate in a few days and was in the ballpark for what we knew our project was going to cost if we wanted it done right and with quality materials and workmanship. We signed the contract almost immediately since he had made such a good impression on both his visits. Chris gave us a selection sheet with several different suppliers for the various pieces and parts we were going to need. I think he is used to the homeowner taking the most time in this area . . . selecting countertops, colors, faucets and hardware but we already knew what we wanted and jumped all over the assignment. We had the majority of the items picked out and back to him within a few days. And trust me, he uses some of the best suppliers. You're not going to go down to the big-box store and pick out a $100 faucet. You're going to go to a tradesman supply house and pick out quality stuff that should last a lifetime. The same can be said about his sub-contractors. He uses a group that he has worked with for a long time and people he can trust. One thing that struck me was that he showed up every day, whether he needed to do some work or just to make sure the work area was vacuumed each night before everyone left. You could tell he was trained well and by someone who knew a little about customer service. We ended up with a complete bathroom re-model. The master bath was gutted to the studs, extensive carpentry work needed to build new shower, walls and sitting bench. A new floor was installed along with a complete water-proof shield. He installed in-floor heating in the bathroom and shower as well as a new toilet, sinks, granite counter tops, porcelain tile floor, shower walls and wainscoting. They installed a custom built vanity, mirrors and a beautiful oak medicine cabinet. We had new lighting and exhaust fans put in and all topped off with a fresh coat of paint on ceiling and walls. There were a few custom things that needed to be addresses, such as a larger drain due to size of new shower system. We also were very adamant about a custom shower that needed to have a frame less entry. In other words, we did not want a threshold so that a wheelchair or walker could be pushed right into the shower. In the end, he made our bathroom ADA compliant. Also, since we were going from a shower that pushed out several gallons of water a minute to over six gallons a minute, we needed a bigger hot water tank . . . no problem. On top of all this we also needed to upgrade our existing electrical service box to accommodate the new electrical requirements. Our panel is located in our rec room and can be seen . . . so he surprised us with a new hinged oak door for the box. It looks great! On top of all this, he also installed two new entry doors and we hit him with a first. We needed a doggie door installed since our dog has been trained to use one for years. He was a doggie door virgin, but handled it without a problem. Now, with any project this size, you're bound to have a few change orders and he was very good about getting these nailed down and signed with new estimates and totals. We have been extremely pleased with the quality of the work and our new bathroom. I'd recommend Otto and Sons to anyone considering a remodel or new build project. You not only gain a great contractor, you feel like you gained a new friend along the way.

Xpand, Inc.
5.0
I had just moved into a new (old) house and there were a number of items throughout the house that needed work done. I had used Xpand in my previous house years ago and so called them again since I had been very pleased with that work. The original ask was for: 1. Tub replacement and shower install in hall bathroom. Replace toilet. 2. New exterior door cut into garage wall to the outside - cat door installed in door 3. New sink and faucet in kitchen Through emails I asked to add the replacement of 2 exterior doors, I would obtain and paint the doors before installation. Jess was very willing to modify the original order and work within my time schedule. There was one issue with a sub-contractor who, while very competent and good, could not make it for the 2nd day of work due to snow. He was re-scheduled for the next week but then did not show and did not call to tell anyone he wasn't coming. Jess was very apologetic and had 2 men out the next day to complete the work. There were still a few small items remaining but they were completed the next morning. I am very happy with the completed work and Jess even gave me a break and did not charge for some of the misc items I had added on to compensate me for the schedule issues. I will definitely be hiring them again.

CADY HANDYMAN SERVICES

Cady staff responded quickly to my inquiry and the bid appointment and work were easy to schedule. Bob was reliable, thorough, a good problem-solver, easy-going (comfortable to have in my house) and a good craftsman. I would absolutely call Cady for other handyman work and would ask for Bob for carpentry. I gave a "B" for price because my guess is that the hourly rate even with the Angie's List discount (Bob prompted me for this by asking how I'd heard of them - appreciated) is perhaps a bit high. I wasn't able to arrange for a bid from the others I called, however, so I'm not certain of this.

Recent Review: I needed a pet door installed and I'm so glad that I chose Handy Rite. Due to their backlog Ben was scheduled to come out in 2 weeks. However there was a cancellation and Staci called me asking if he could come this week instead. How often do you have someone reschedule for an earlier date...not often. Ben showed up on time, was very friendly, professional, and discussed what he would be doing. The pet door didn't fit snuggly between the exterior door panels but Ben made sure to seal with caulk to keep the weather out. When he finished he was meticulous with the clean up. Not only did he do a great job with the install he helped me chase a chipmunk, who snuck in through another door, out of my house. I whole heartedly recommend and will definitely use Handy Rite again. Thanks! Amy
