Met 2 Jason's - Jason the Estimator and Jason the installer. Both were wonderful! My husband is disabled due to his service in Vietnam, he is very ill with a few special needs for a comfortable and safe shower. the biggest issue is his shower chair it is very big and we had limited space to work with. Both Jason's listened and got us a shower that we can use safely and it is beautiful too! THE CHAIR FITS, Hallelujah, they are the best if you need a new shower!

CRAIG WAS THE HANDYMAN - ASSEMBLY OF PREFABRICATED CABINETS He was professional and courteous and exacting! He called me into the room to show that the cabinets did not come with the appropriate number of screws, pins, etc. - I was able to get the missing parts at the local hardware store so Craig could complete the assembly. He was the epitome of professionalism, cleaned up after the work was completed, removed the boxes (HUGE BOXES), and Thanked US for using their service! Another added plus; being a 100% disabled veteran, the company is a Veteran owned business - I knew the work would be professional and correct!

Went very well within budget and schedule. Sean hired the electrician and plumbers and did all the rest himself with a helper for the demolition of the old tile and with moving the tub. The tub had some tricky installation issues which Sean handled very well. The is the second time he has done a bathroom remodel for us and we were pleased he was available this time as well. He is very personable, gets along with family routine (including pets) well and cleans up at the end of every day. Sean is well versed with the issues of remodeling older houses. Highly recommend.

Wow! Scott came at the time he said he would arrive. He listened to my concerns regarding the hand rail (I have a disability and need sturdy hand rails). He also listened and respected my need to do the work "on a budget." While Scott was getting supplies at the hardware store to do the repairs, his partner asked if there were any other small projects he could work on. Wowee! I got repairs made to four pieces of furniture and got the ceiling bulbs replaced. He was able to take care of five mini-projects that I was unable to do myself. The guys were great. Nice people to work with - they listen and they work hard. And, I have a railing that's been reinforced and is super-sturdy. Thank you!

Chris Hernandez designed and built a beautiful cedar deck for us. He and his partner Ted removed the old, rotting deck, secured all permits and arranged relevant inspections (the inspector said ours was one of the best decks he'd seen), removed the old posts and set new ones to code, and built the exact deck we wanted with a gate and lovely railings. They also added underlayment and a drainage system to keep the patio below the deck dry. They were wonderful to work with, cleaned up beautifully, and were willing to accommodate our schedule, including a two-week delay when a robin built her nest under the old deck and I didn't want her disturbed until the babies had flown away. Chris came back after the cedar had "cured" for several weeks and added a seal coat to the wood surfaces and expanded the step into the three-season porch to make it safer for disabled persons. Both my husband and I are super pleased with the work we had done and especially liked the fact that there were no subcontractors involved: Chris and Ted did all of the work themselves, from beginning to end; they are courteous, professional, hard-working young men. The price was exactly what Chris said it would be and included everything: materials, disposal, permit, labor, etc.

It was a flat hourly rate. He was rather eccentric. The guy had gray gray hair and had fifteen rings on his fingers and a handkerchief around his head. The work he did was fine. He had his own mind. I am disabled so I was not following him around. He decided on his own that he was going to wash my car. I was paying him a flat hourly rate. I probably could have used but I was not driving the car. There was a window that needed replacing. He ordered the replacement and then I did not hear from him for weeks. He called that Thanksgiving and said he will probably be coming that weekend. He did not come that weekend. He just showed up somewhere in the middle of the week without calling or anything then put the window in. There were more things I wanted to do. He was supposed to call me back. He put me off and I just found other resources.

After we met twice in April of 2008 to discuss options for the remodel, he submitted a very decent bid and began working on the basement in May of 2008. He gave me great advice on replacing the doors, windows, where to place the closets in the room, etc. He is very creative, and helped me make decisions on how I wanted the remodel to take form. The project is nearing completion, and I couldn't be happier with the out come so far. I plan on hiring Randal to remodel my kitchen in the future.

Horrible! Still waiting for it to be completed! Simple non complicated kitchen remodel that was promised to be done within 5 -6 weeks going on 6 months. I have turned Chris Hale into labor and industry. If you see or hear this company name RUN! Chris Hale is all about money. He lacks integrity and honesty. He is all about collecting the buck for himself then passing the buck when it comes to actually backing up his work OR doing hands on quality work himself. This contractor WILL NOT GIVE YOU AN ITEMIZATION on the breakdown on the job of supplies and materials. I have been dealing with constant failed inspections. He had an unlicensed electrician do the work in my home which caused more damage to the structure of my home! The unlicensed electrician compromised the Structral stability up to 67% in my TRUSSES where he installed the lighting. Chris was informed to have them repaired and pass re- inspection before the first heavy snow fall.... I’m still waiting and it’s Nov 5th. They installed damaged cabinets. He held one cabinet hostage until I made a payment ( I paid over 65% of the job BEFORE it even started) I was forced to proceed with a broken cabinet ( I didn’t pay for broken cabinets but that’s what I had to settle for). I had to compromise my choice on back splash three times due to inventory availability. When the backsplash finally goes for installation ..10 TILES SHORT. Currently On hold for two weeks. His cabinet installers damaged my new wooden floors just installed. I had a cold air return that needed to be redirected. I brought this to the attention to the city inspector. Chris quick fix was to just cut a hole into my new wooden floor and slap an ugly metal vent cover. When attempting to repair the trusses for first inspection they walked through my ceiling. ( you can’t make this up. I have photos for anyone wanting proof of any of my claims) They installed my microwave above my stove 2 attempts multiple holes in that cabinets won’t be able to use that cabinet for use intended. When putting the hardware (handles on the drawers ) chris try to eyeball it instead of using a templet like most professional contractors would do, he damaged the drawers with multiple holes due to misjudgment.. I have to live with these eye sores. Not him. All because he wanted to save time and money. Or maybe he just lack skills ? Damaged flooring, damaged cabinets, damaged trusses. The list just goes on. I haven’t even touched on the fact I can’t even get them to connect my kitchen sink!! They left their work area a sloppy mess. I take care of disabled adults. We have been living in our garage since JUNE. They have been tripping over their junk since then. Try. Poking for four disabled adults out of your basement and serving them in the garage. Chris Hales job site foreman had me pay their subcontractor $3500. I was told that amount would come off of my bill. Long story short. That foreman no longer works for him and I’m left holding the money bag on that one as well. I had to pay that subcontractor so that he could finish the job that the unlicensed electrician started. The subcontractor was needed to pull the permit along with to finish the more “complicated” piece of the job. Unfortunately that electrician was tragically killed in an accident before he even started. So it becomes my word only. I could go on and on. All I know is BE WARNED DO NOT HAVE MINNESOTA KITCHENS OR CHRIS HALE DO ANY WORK FOR YOUR HOME You will live to have regret. I know I do

The Handyman Can!!! Inc
1.0
I ended up using The Handyman Can based on the reviews I read. After I heard what his rates were I should have kept on going and found somebody else. His rates are ridiculous! When he first came I figured he was there to give me an estimate. Not the case. He planned on starting in and getting everything done. He sanded for 3 to 4 hours before he realized that he was going to have to use veneer over the top instead of refinishing what was there due to water damage. It shouldn't have taken more than a half an hour to make that determination. One of the windows was considerably worse than the other. He decided to sand both of them and then make a determination that the veneer needed to be replaced. Why continue when you know you need to replace with veneer and there’s no need to sand any longer? I had many warning flags to stop the work but I didn't. It should have never taken that long to figure out that he was going to sand through the existing veneer. He left to get veneer at a local lumberyard. One of my windows is 8 feet wide and the other is 10 feet wide. He could only find 8 foot long veneer. So the 10 foot window he decided he would use 2 pieces and join them in the center with some type of molding piece. Another flag went up and I should of stopped the work right there. He cut the veneer to size and the cuts were not very precise. He got to my house at 7:30 AM. At 4:30 PM we sat down to figure out where his bill was at. I swallowed hard when I saw that he'd come up with over almost $1400 and we were nowhere near the end of this project. A bit later as he was cleaning up I told him that I was pretty unhappy with the way things were going. I mentioned that joining 2 pieces on my 10 foot window would look pretty bad. I also discussed about how long it'd taken him to get where he was by 4:30 PM. We discussed about how he had the highest rates compared to other handyman\Carpenters that were listed in Angie's LIST. I said I thought I was going to get so much more than what I had gotten based on his reviews in Angie's list and also by the rates that he charges ($225 for the first hour and I believe it was $130 for every hour after). At this point he said that he would come back and finish the job (in regards to the veneer) without charging for any more hours. I told him that I would try find a 10 foot piece of rolled veneer to replace the quarter inch veneer that he had bought and had cut (not precise cuts at all). Again at this point I should have cut my losses and found somebody else. But I figured as long as he said he wasn’t going to charge me I didn't have much to lose. Wrong! We scheduled up for another day to start up again after I had received the rolled veneer. I was in the hospital on that day. I figured me being away from the house was a good thing so that he could glue down the new veneer, stain it and maybe even start applying poly. I am disabled and would need to move my hospital bed out of my bedroom during the application of the adhesives and the poly. He called me and told me he had finished. He said it took him one hour to finish the front door deadbolt and 1 1/2 hours to look at the ceiling fan (which my PCA had to help him hold the fan up while looking at the receiver). So he informs me that he needs to charge me $225 for the first hour and $130 an hour for the subsequent time work on the door and ceiling fan. I settled up with him. When I came home from the hospital to see what he had done I couldn't believe my eyes! The veneer was wavy and not adhered in many spots. He kept on talking about using quarter round molding to run around the window. The quarter round that he used was to cover up the flaws from not cutting the veneer correctly. Along the front edge of each of the windows where the new veneer had been installed there was a tiny little finishing nails to hold the veneer down because the gluing down part of the job was done so crappy. Even though he used these nails the veneer was still wavy in spots where the adhesive did not hold. The work looked like something a 5th grader would do! At this point I feel like an idiot for continuing to go along with his charade of trying to be a carpenter and paying top dollar for it! I truly have myself to blame for not stopping this project at different points of the process. I kept on thinking that something would change and the quality of work would show up. I think he's capable of doing small odd jobs but I don't know why you would want to pay his rates to have that type of work done.
