We looked at several different companies for this job, and they had the best price. They came and installed the fireplace. They came when they said they would, and it looks great. When everything else in our home was done for the remodel, they came back out to make sure everything was set up well and that it was working properly. Other companies wanted to charge us for a service call for this service to come back. But with American Fireplace, it is their policy. I really appreciated that and am pleased with the fireplace. I would definitely use them again in the future and would recommend them to others

On March 9, 2013, after researching fireplace stores and needing to replace our existing gas fireplace with a new, energy efficient gas fireplace, we decided to stay with the current brand we had Heat and Glo and Badgerland Fireplace had an excellent rating on Angie's list and other sites so we headed to the store to discuss a replacement. Upon arrival at the store, there was one sales rep in the store which was a bit busy. We discussed at length that we needed a new gas fireplace and were shown inserts. The sales rep somehow came to the conclusion that we had a wood burning fireplace and wanted to convert it to a gas fireplace. We had never stated we needed a conversion fireplace but without knowing much about gas fireplaces, we asked about how we could change the look of our old gas fireplace and were directed to gas inserts. It was only after we made an appointment for this sales rep to come to our home to look at our existing fireplace and our continuing questions that the sales rep realized that we were requesting a completely new gas fireplace, not something to replace a wood burning one. He never offered a business card, only brochures for gas inserts, which was confusing but we felt that an installer would be coming to our home and would have a better handle on what was needed and would work for us. On March 11,2013, much to our surprise, the same sales rep came to our home, late but did call to apologize for his delay. The rest of the story is as written above. To date we have not heard back and will not be using this company for our needs. The only thing accomplished is that I have a 12x12 hole in my living room wall

Chimney Concepts
Chimney Concepts does not respect their customers' time, does not keep their commitments and has little sense of urgency. I took a half day off of work to have a $6200 gas fireplace installed - I received a call from the installer minutes before he was to arrive to find out that he "couldn't make it" and that I'd need to call the office to schedule an alternative time. After chasing this down a bit, they did come the following Saturday, but couldn't finish the job because some electrical work remained. The electricians were supposed to arrive on December 21st between 1130 a.m. and Noon. As of 12:20 p.m., there was no sign of them and no call from Chimney Concepts. After calling them, at first I was told the electricians were "running late" and that they couldn't tell me when they'd come. After expressing my displeasure - I've given them over $6K and the job still isn't done - they managed to get an estimated time of arrival - 2 hours after they were supposed to arrive. For what it's worth, I'm still waiting for the Electrician. The people at this company are pleasant and nice, but the owners, who have yet to reach out to me, don't seem to place customer service at the top of their priority list

American Heritage Fireplace and Chimney
We purchased a gas fireplace insert at American Heritage and had them install it. Initially I thought installation went great until the crew left and I went to the basement and found they have left a huge hole in the cinder block walls and left a lot of cement debris from drilling a hole for the gas line, it was clear they made no effort to clean up in the basement. I had to call them back to fill in the hole which was inconvenient. Then, at the time of initial purchase the salesperson had made it seem as though getting a permit for the work was optional. It is partially my fault that I did not research it beforehand, but after installation I found out a building permit was required for this work where I live, and therefore I ended up having to pay 4 times the normal permit fee for getting it late. Then when I had the work inspected by the building inspector, it was not up to code and required many months of phone calls and appointments to get the work fixed and up to code. Finally, throughout the two years we have owned the fireplace, if it is on or even if just the pilot light is on, it gives off a faint gas odor. If we turn fireplace on, after just a few minutes there is a horrible odor to it, like something is burning. We followed all of the recommendations that come with the fireplace regarding burning it for 6 hours to let any residual manufacturing oils and paints burn off. Despite following the recommendations, we can't even use the fireplace because of the horrible smell that comes from it. Purchasing this gas insert and choosing American Heritage are my biggest regrets when it comes to any home improvement we have done in the past 10 years

Installed a direct vent gas fireplace. Workers were thorough and clean and work was done in a timely manner. There was later a problem with the vent and American Heritage came back to fix the problem for no charge, even though it was well after the original installation job. Quality Fireplace & Chimney Service
when first installed, they did not put in air intake in through chimney. they said between what was in the chimney and what came through the fireplace itself would be enough. after repeated visits for it not lighting properly, they decided they needed to put in air intake. when it still wouldn't lite they said they would send a repairman from another business to repair it because they did not repair what they sold. the repairman came and said he needed to order a part. after about 5 weeks I called the other company to find out status on part. they said they were waiting on Quality for serial number on fireplace for warranty. I had to call Quality to tell them what was going on. after they faxed the serial number to the other business, about three weeks later they called to say the part was in. so from the time it was installed, until the time it was repaired was six months

THE FIRE PLACE LTD
This required removing 2 windows and trim, then building an outside chase dog house style, The housing for the gas fireplace inside stuck out about 8 inches, and four inches above mantel for a faux chimney look. Thoutside required siding and a small roof on top, which we didn't expect, they just added it for looks. On the inside they installed stone work and a hearth, and of course install the gas fireplace, gas lines, electric, obtained all licensing, installed the unit perfectly. And they did it in just two and 1/2 days

Had a free standing fireplace in my kitchen that was not operating correctly and was afraid of carbon monoxide. Called Grenz Service after trying another company that never returned my phone calls. Jim (President) returned my call that night and arranged to do a service call the day after Christmas @ approx. 8:00am. Jim and his father arrived right on time, covered their shoes and brought in a tarp to protect the floor. Went right to work on kitchen stove, determined problem, clean stove, tested for carbon monoxide, done. Moved on to second and third stoves, took them apart, check them over, cleaned and put back together and tested, done. They were completely done 1 hour and 15 minutes after they arrived. Prepared a very reasonable invoice, explained the invoice, took a credit card and were on their way. This was the first time I have use Grenz but it certainly won't be the last. They were friendly, efficient, professional and gave great value for the services they performed. I would at this point reccomend them highl

I called for a rough estimate, which they gave over the phone (unusual for a contractor) and invited me to their showroom to look at the gas fireplace log sets available. Their showroom is very nice with lots of examples to see. The sales representative was friendly did a good job of explaining all the options. Since this was for our basement, we didn't want to spend too much and they suggested some ways to reduce the price. The installation was scheduled at our convenience. The installers were willing to work with me on routing and hiding the gas line so it wasn't exposed. They did a nice job quickly, were friendly and cleaned-up when they were done. After obtaining several estimates, a couple telling us we needed to rebuild the entire chimney for about 3x the price quoted to repair, and a few not getting back to us to answer subsequent questions-- we went with Elite. They were friendly and professional from the start and always responded back to questions right away. Their masons did a great job repairing and all were punctual and reliable. Even referred to my neighbor on the spot for some chimney work they need done. We will most likely schedule them to clean our chimney from now on too

A young woman named Christina answered the phone when I called this morning before 9AM - on a Monday. She was so pleasant and friendly. I explained that I am back in town after 20 years away and that my folks said their gas fireplace - about 10 years since converted to gas from wood - doesn't work. Christina explained that Badgerland doesn't service our type of fireplace, but that she had a number of a guy was excellent. But first...she walked me through the steps of turning the thing on myself. She really knew what she was talking about. Everything looked exactly as she described it. It was about a 7 minute call and she was in good humor and so kind throughout. No matter how you slice it I wasn't going to spend any money with her company, and yet she was so helpful and patient. THIS is service. I can only imagine they are wonderfully responsive in the event you actually hire them. One thing I know for sure, they really know how to hire and train for excellent customer service. This made my whole day! Thank you, Christina

The person that came to clean the fireplace laid down a large cloth to keep the hearth and carpeting free of any soot. He did a nice job of cleaning the logs. I did expect the entire floor of the fireplace would be cleaned and the and quot;sandand quot; and substance that would glow would be completely new. That did not happen. Overall a good job; however I would either be more clear with my expectations next time or try someone new

After a very bad experience with another local fireplace company (The Fireplace LTD - I rated them separately here on Angie's List) who told us it just could not be done, we were apprehensive about our desire to replace an old inexpensive wood burner fireplace insert with a quality gas unit. From the first phone call with Jeff and after sending him some photos and dimensions, we were set at ease....he assured us that he and his team would be able to help us and would get us something we would be very pleased with at a reasonable price. As it turned out, he was able to offer us options we never thought possible based on what we had been told by that other company. We visited the showroom and everything was smooth sailing from then on. Not only did we get an entirely new high quality gas unit (not an insert) that is amazing, we also had the old brick and hearth removed and an entirely new brick facing ,hearth and mantel installed - all custom work. It turned out absolutely awesome. The price was very reasonable given everything we asked to have done, and the price quoted is the price we paid. The demo and install crews did very meticulous work in about 3 days, were very friendly, and cleaned up after themselves to the point you wouldn't have known they were there. We now have a very attractive fully functional, remote-controlled, and high quality gas fireplace in place of the ugly outdated wood burner we never used, making our family room that much more enjoyable. We recommend Country Stove and Fireplace to anyone looking for anything related to a fireplace.....their showroom is something you really have to see (many functioning units and endless options for brick, hearths, mantels, accessories, etc.), and the staff is fantastic - extremely knowledgeable and professional, while being helpful by offering suggestions without being pushy. Their prices are reasonable, especially considering you get top-notch quality and personal service, which is what you'll want for your home. As it turned out, when we first visited the showroom, purely by coincidence, a co-worker was there looking to have them do a second fireplace for them as part of a renovation property they had just purchased. He told us we'd be very happy working with these folks, and his was correct

I didn't realize that the fireplace is sealed so there isn't a lot that Greg could do. He inspected above and below, made certain it was functioning correctly and, most helpful, showed me the control panel that I didn't know existed. He also cleaned the external pipe where the exhaust goes. Typically, Greg would charge $195 for an inspection of the fireplace and chimney. I thought that the $125 was still high for the amount of work that was actually completed, but a service call alone would usually cost $75 for most contractors and I now have the peace of mind that the unit is working adequately

Excellent customer service! On Monday morning, another HVAC vendor had diagnosed and recommended replacement of our furnace to our home warranty company, but they were not responding to my repeated requests for a quote on replacing the furnace a more efficient unit for several days. Our furnace was declared unsafe, so we had no heat and were using the gas fireplace, electric oven and a couple of portable electric heaters to keep the house warm. Fortunately, I had started using Angie's List immediately and got quotes from various other HVAC vendors to get prepared for battle with the home warranty company. SquareOne was recommended by a friend and also checked out on Angie's List. I called SquareOne Wednesday afternoon but the receptionist said no one would be available until tomorrow. I pleaded that with her that we had no heat, so she would see what she could do; she called back that Steve would drop by late in the day after finishing up with another appointment. As promised, Steve showed up that night and prepared a quote on a several options. His quotes were very reasonable and in the ballpark with those of other vendors. Steve also works with home warranty companies and advised me to negotiate a cash-out payment with the adjuster directly, rather than wasting time trying to get their bureaucracy to switch the furnace replacement work to him. Steve also prepared me by correctly estimating how little cash the home warranty company would actually pay out, based on his previous experience with them - he was right! SquareOne could also do the install that coming Saturday for the same price, where other HVAC vendors had provided "earliest possible" standard install dates well into the following week (one vendor was scheduled out under after Christmas!). Emergency installs would be nearly double the standard install quote. SquareOne service techs arrived on-time Saturday morning, as expected, and had the furnace replaced & running in just under 3 hours. I did some on-line research and wanted Bryant furnace to have its two-stage heating & dehumidifaction modes controlled by our existing Nest thermostat, which required pulling new 7 conductor thermostat cable; the techs hooked everything up and it all works perfectly
