We received a quote in advance to have a chandelier removed from our old residence and installed at our new residence. After the work was done, for more than $350 (the quoted amount), the installer asked for an additional $319 for "changing out light bulbs" - which was outrageous enough, because the "changing out" consisted of simply putting in some new bulbs, that we provided, during the reinstall of the chandelier; and there were only 8 bulbs to replace, so this wasn't some massive project. In addition, the installer didn't bring along a ladder tall enough to do the work - despite having been to BOTH residences a week or so ago, to give the estimate, for which they were paid $49 or so (yes, just to give the estimate) - and had to go and pick up a ladder, thereby adding a lot of time to the project; there were other problems, too - a van not big enough to carry the chandelier from one residence to the other, despite the fact that the installer had seen the chandelier at the time of the estimate. We reluctantly agreed to pay part of the requested $300 surcharge (over and above the agreed upon $350) because the installer and his assistant did work hard, did get the chandelier moved and seemed like nice people. But I would't consider hiring this company again and if you do hire them, watch out for bait and switch pricing. It is unprincipled behavior at best.
