Review for Madison Master Bathroom Remodeling

Adam's Handyman & Remodeling Service

We have a small bathroom that has not been updated for many years and water leakage had resulted in mold. Adam and his partner provided a rough estimate of costs and even though the project took a bit longer than he hoped, the costs came in right where he had estimated. The quality of the work exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be happier. Would highly recommend he be used for your remodeling needs and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future.

Mick did an excellent job remodeling our bathroom. As part of our remodel, Mick had to tear apart our one piece old fiberglass tub/shower and do the frame work/drywalling to replace with a tile shower. The finished tiled shower looks very professional. Not only does Mick have great carpentry/tiling skills, he also has great people skills. It was always a joy having him around and it was very evident that he cares about his customers. We highly recommend Mick.

I mean-the majority of 5 star reviews say it all. Patrick was a delight to work with--and I can truly call him a FRIEND! We hired him to complete our dream master bathroom remodel, as well as remodeling our laundry room. All I can say is-HIRE HIM. Our project went above and beyond our expectations and we are so happy with the outcome. Our project was a large one-including knocking down walls, re-configuring the master bath and laundry room, and installation of a CUSTOM tiled walk in shower. I worked closely with Patrick in picking out every single item, which also allowed me to learn some tricks and skills along the way too. Patrick is one of the nicest humans I've had the pleasure to meet and I would hire him again in a second.

The only positive interaction during this remodel was with the installers. They were great! Our experience started with the in home sales person. He was unprofessional and went thru the tablet presentation "because I have to". He was no help with suggestions or options. When we asked if the tub surround was one piece like the display he said yes, they are custom made in IL. You never have to worry about mold in the corners. Not true. When we decided what we wanted he scribbled some numbers in a notebook and gave us a price and 3 payment options. No breakdown of what the costs were. That should of raised a red flag but Ganser has a good reputation so we went with it. During the install we noticed that we did not get the rain shower head we wanted. Turned out the salesman did not put it on the order. He brought one to the installers that we think he actually purchased himself. We found out later it was not a model they carry. The shower head was much larger than their model and did not work well at all. Work was done on 3/24/16, took a day and a half as promised. After they left we noticed a scratch on the glass door. We called the installer and he was nice enough to come back and check it out. We called the next day to report the scratch. We did not hear anything back until April 5. We were told to send a pic of the scratch. We were told they would call us back but never did. We called them back on 4/13 to follow up. We were told it was ordered. We heard nothing and we called back May 2nd. Were told it just came in today and we would get a call the next day to schedule. We did not get that call until May 11th. The new glass was installed May 12. They also changed out the rain shower head. We then received an email to review our experience. You can't leave negative reviews, you are given a number to call. The email implies you are calling the owner, Travis Ganser. I called that number and left a voicemail on 5/24 and have not heard back yet. To summarize we worked with an unprofessional sales rep who misrepresented the products. Follow up was non existent all the way up to the owner. We had to initiate all the follow up calls. You would think $8500 would deserve better treatment.

This guy knows everything about bathrooms. He knows about the best fixtures and faucets to use. He helped me make very sound decisions. They are decisions that impact long-term how I liked the finished project. We adore our finished project. I think he did a fabulous job in walking us through the bid process. We felt his bid process was very fair. He showed us things that were of very good value even though they were not the most expensive. His tile guy is like the Michelangelo of tile, his quality is 'A+'. They finished when they said they would be finished. His professionalism is top notch. I most definitely will use him again.

Mike and his team did a total master bathroom renovation in our 100+ year old home. He walked me through the entire process and was so thorough in helping me decide on the floor plan, the materials and the timeline. He NEVER rushed me through any of the process and offered his expert advise in areas where I was unsure of what I wanted. Anytime I needed to get in contact with him he also responded almost immediately. Mike was great to work with and I knew I was in good hands from day one. Jeff was the project manager and arrived to our home always on time and in great spirits. His work was beautiful and he always kept everything incredibly neat and tidy. Sometimes I even forgot he was in the house! His craftsmanship and quality of work was exceptional as was the work done by the plumber and electrician they brought in. I would not hesitate to call Mike and his team in should we need more work down on our second bathroom. I am beyond thrilled with our new bathroom!!!

I like that they're very attentive, made sure that his workers are here on time, they call before they show up just to make sure somebody is here. There are couple things I wasn't happy about and they change without any issues at all. They're kind of pricey.

Projects were done on time and within budget. The onsite foreman was great. We had some complaints about some of the deck staining and grout in the bathroom. the problem areas were replaced. Brian (our salesperson) came back out to take a look at the grout. The grout in the bathroom was likely due to getting it wet too soon after installation. The grout was replaced at no additional cost to us. We also had questions on our bathroom towel racks that had gotten loose - he fixed one and showed us how to tighten the other ones. Their response to issues was professional. We were very happy with their work.

I needed a new tub and shower asap and they promised me I would have it in time for move in. They came through under a tight time schedule. It is a beautiful bathroom although the painting job and mudding could be better. The second job was to remove a closet and replace it with a bookshelf. They talked me into an expensive Amish built shelf unit and I am so glad I agreed as it is beautiful and superior to anything else available. All work was on schedule, workers very nice and a good price.

Recent Review: I want to say up front that I am very very pleased with the results of the remodel. I also want to say that I couldn't have been happier with our designer, Connie Mann. She was fabulous to work with, had a very pleasing personality, great work ethic and wonderful, creative ideas and details and was a true professional. We also loved the guys who did the actual work. They were also professional and courteous and skilled at their jobs. This seemed to be an extensive job (to me) and they completed it on time, in three months. So, with all of this glowing praise, why do I say I wouldn't use Dream Kitchens again? In short, the owner. On the face of it he comes across very friendly, but we ended up feeling manipulated. The actual project was completed in three months, but the planning began in January and went through August. Most of that was due to our needing time to make choices. We also had the 24 hour care of our 2 1/2 year old twin grandsons living with us until July that year. The owner, Kevin Schmidt, was accommodating to our need for time. We had also told him upfront that we could not begin construction until the boys were out of the house. Our biggest problem became one of trust. When we were first shown three designs for the kitchen area, BEFORE we had decided to put any money down and commit to Dream Kitchens, we asked what the approximate cost would be for one of the designs (the one we liked best and decided to go with). We were told $75,000. That fell within our budget range and of course we knew it was likely we would make changes or additions and raise the price some, but this seemed a solid base. After we had put money down and spent more time on finalizing the design we found out that the price he had quoted only included 2 walls of the kitchen. He hadn't included the built-in buffet wall, nor the pony wall alterations between the kitchen and family room. That was additional and he hadn't considered it part of the kitchen -- even though that was part of the design we were looking at when we asked the price. That was the beginning. There was also no "contract" provided. He said that if he gave his clients a contract that would scare them off. To the contrary, we saw a contract as protecting both sides in this undertaking. He just wanted us to sign agreements to pay amounts on a given schedule. We held firm and demanded a contract. Our son-in-law is a lawyer and he downloaded a generic contract for remodeling which we presented to Kevin. Kevin agreed to use it. It gave dates for starting, work to be done, a payment schedule and penalties for late completion. Other issues were getting firm prices on items. The cabinets were not an issue. Connie gave us those prices as well as for the granite and marble. For the wood flooring -- I got the quotes from other outside sources and kept those out of the Dream Kitchens contract -- to Kevin's chagrin. But for the plumbing fixtures (sinks, faucets and toilet) and lighting allowances and windows, it was like pulling teeth to get a firm price from Kevin. It was all evasive. The plumbing fixture store would tell me it depended upon what discount dream kitchens would give. Kevin would say it depended upon the plumbing fixture store and what discount they would give. We built our house in 1979, with WILMAC, and I learned then that builders get discounts and either pass those discounts along to you and charge for their labor or don't pass the discount along and that is partially how they pay for their labor. If I remember correctly, Kevin wanted to add 25-30% on to any outside product. This was in addition to the "lump sum" he listed in the contract for labor costs and the discounts from outside vendors. It was always impossible to pin him down on anything financial. I have a neighbor who got so far in the planning process with Dream Kitchens before pulling out due to "issues" with the owner; and she had a friend in Bishop's Bay who chose not to go past the first meeting because of the "red flags" related to the owner. I feel Dream Kitchens delivered a great service and product. As I said, I was very happy with the results. I sincerely appreciate the employees -- they work very hard and are very talented and I don't want to hurt them in anyway. I felt I was in a wrestling match with Kevin the entire time -- once our eyes were opened and we realized how he worked. If I was a new client looking at what Dream Kitchens' had to offer and it seemed like something I would like -- I would go in with very specific questions (he's like a politician in that he answers vaguely) and demand specific answers in writing. If you stick to your financial guns -- you will probably be happy with the rest.

Recent Review: It was pretty expensive. I had found them on Angie's List and read some of the feedback on how pleased people were with her. That is what made me go with her. I thought I would be willing to pay a little extra to get good results. She is for someone who has a lot of money to spend. She is quite expensive. She is good at picking out colors but I think her price is high for doing that. We had a few disagreements about things. I am not saying she is not good at what she does but I think she is expensive for what she does. My husband brought up a kitchen remodel as well. We did not go with any of her ideas because they were too expensive. Turns out after talking to a realtor her ideas would have hurt our resale value. After she found out I was frustrated she did offer to meet me at the paint store to help me pick out other colors. She did try to make up for how frustrated I was and how I did not get the things I expected to get addressed in her time frame. I would not use her again at that price.

Recent Review: The work on these two bathrooms went very quickly and was timed so that I was never without the use of a bathroom. It was lots of little jobs that involved getting the plumber, electrician, carpenter, a tile guy and the painters on site in a very timely manner. There were no problems. When questions come up, Mike is willing to spend time discussing the options and then we collaborate on a decision. I appreciate his creativity and clarity in discussions of what works, what doesn't and how much things will cost.

Recent Review: Extremely happy with the work done by the folks at Ganser. They did a wonderful job replacing our second story master bathroom shower after it began leaking into our living room (originally a tile shower that had not been installed properly by the previous homeowners). Love the results. I want to specifically thank and recommend Jason, the sales person that helped us plan out the project and get the paperwork in order, and Greg (and crew!) that made it a reality. All were professional, friendly, and very easy to work with. We'll certainly use Ganser again in the future (hopefully for something less urgent!)
