We began with brainstorming with Isaac about our options for materials and methods for the wall. He was very open to our ideas and had creative suggestions of his own. Ben was the lead carpenter and was very polite and considerate of our wishes. He got along well with the young helpers and they always seemed to work as a team. The job was marked by communication at every step of the way and our wishes were respected without question. Since it was winter, they worked as often as weather permitted, but always kept us informed about when they would be working and let us know if they couldn't be on the job. The demolition came first, then bringing in the new materials,. Making the retaining wall was the major part of the job and took a great deal of skill (BEN) to fit the ties not to mention strong backs (young guys). Ben took great care to get the width of the fence boards right--and also their spacing and made a charming gate that we had not even thought about. The last part was hauling topsoil and spreading gravel.

Chad and his team did an excellent job on my driveway.replacement. They did what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. His crew were professional and polite. The work they did was beautiful and they cleaned up their mess. I have no problem recommending them to anyone I know!

He had some Mexicans over here and they cut my yard all up in pieces. I had to sue him. I took him to court. I won a judgement against him and he had to pay me for the damages that he had done. He was supposed to spread some gravel. He ordered the wrong kind of gravel. It was supposed to be pea gravel and it was the bigger gravel. He was supposed to level it all up my driveway. They came out here and they just stowed it around in spots all over my driveway, some of it sticking in some spots and some of it ain't. Then I had to get some guys come in here and smooth the gravel all out. $5700 was a lot of money for him to do what he was going to do. I didn't mind paying him $5700 if he did a good job. I asked him not to be on our property unless somebody was here and call me first, he never did. He had them out here on a Sunday. I went out of town, we got back on a Sunday and we stop by the house and they were out here cutting my yard all up and stuff. He was avoiding my calls and stuff. I will not use him and refer him to nobody.

I called them on the phone and I asked them how much the gravel was and I told them which size I wanted and they told me how much it was. I had it delivered. They pretty much ask me where I wanted and put it there. They tried to spread it where I wanted. They were very busy and they delivered the same day. I called Gary and told him I needed another load and he brought it out the next day.

Big B and Sons Blacktopping was the crew that actually did the work. They did a great job putting the new asphalt in, they were able to extend the area a little without disrupting the yard or existing landscaping. The only reason I gave them a B for punctuality was that they were about 30-45 mins late getting to the house on the day the work was done, and a phone call to let me know they were running late would have been helpful. But the job was done quickly, neatly, and professionally. I would definitely recommend them.

Actual patio install went great! They did a proper job with proper grading, drainage, etc. Had to use heavy machinery so sod went in. I wish I had a better understanding of how much the sod cost, I might have gone a different route with either re-seeding or more sod to replace existing. We also had this work done in June before our baby was born in early July. Despite that, I was able to water per instructions. Unfortunately the drought in the back half of summer has been fairly harsh to the sod, especially at the edges. Also did not receive instructions for care of arbor vitae that was planted between patio and dog area. They ended up dying probably due to the drought, but also not sure if they were appropriate for the area. Just wish there was more recommendation/instruction here. Also follow up to make sure we were taking care of the sod. I also probably could have been upsold on lawn renewal, more sod, maybe a sprinkler system to try and help maintain this area we were already invested in. Overall, I'm not terribly torn up about those issues. The patio itself looks amazing and I think the workmanship was great. Just need a little more communication regarding care of landscaping replace/installed. There pricing was great as well. It did go up a bit after we added some options, but that's to be expected. Overall, very satisfied and would hire again. I would just be a little more forthcoming with questions based on my learning experience. This is the largest contracted job I've ever had done.

The project went very well. Scott is a pro and a pleasure to work with. My backyard 10x10 brick patio and surrounding grass was overgrown and full of weeds and old tree roots. Scott and crew cleaned up the whole area, leveled it and put in a beautiful extension of pea gravel, creating more usable outdoor space. He surrounded this with planting beds and new plantings designed to provide beauty and privacy. It turned out better than I expected and my neighbors love it too. Thanks Scott!

They were punctual and did a very good job. The only thing I'm unhappy with is how the prepaid hours of work tripled after I was committed to using them. Based on the time that they arrived - to when they told me they were done and how many men were at the job (2) - it fit within the original prepaid timeframe(?) so I feel taken advantage of. Also other ads on the site from similar companies include haul away - they didn't. In future - I guess I will have to get a solid time estimate from any Angie's List contractor before looking at a prepaid HOUR 'deal' to avoid a similar issue. It's hard to be so critical because they did do excellent work - just a word of warning about billing.

Recent Review: THE GENTLEMAN AT STONE CENTER WAS EXTREMELY PATIENT HELPING ME DETERMINE WHAT I NEEDED AND HOW MUCH. WHEN HE REALIZED THE QUANTITY I NEEDED, HE SENT ME TO ANOTHER COMPANY THAT COULD PROVIDE IT MORE CHEAPLY. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED. HE DID NOT NEED TO DO THAT. I WILL DEFINITELY FIND A WAY TO BUY STONE FROM STONE CENTER IN THE FUTURE.

Recent Review: Already did awesome work for us last year eliminating overgrown woody junk, making us a gravel driveway, putting in a long mulch bed (over $2000, but worth it). Again this time, got the job done with the right tools and personnel to make us look good again. I just wish I had found these guys before I hacked away for a year trying to get it under control, with little success. We'd definitely hire them again!

Recent Review: aying for The job, through no fault of Abell's, ended up taking far longer than anticipated. We had planned to do the heavy work over the winter, after the ground froze, to keep the tracked skid loader from tearing up the lawn too badly. Unfortunately, it never froze -- it was one of the warmest winters on record! So, giving up on Mother Nature, the work was done in June of this year. Abells built the reinforced walls, and was able to dump some broken concrete footings and foundations from another job, saving us some expense of fill gravel. Then, they subcontracted the gravel fill and topsoil layer to Don Parr, who turned out to be a genuine artist with a Bobcat; I believe that Don could make that Bobcat do the moonwalk if he wanted to. As with every single other contract we've had with Abells, I am completely satisfied with work, and the cost. Abell's will be the only contractor that I'll use. ANd if your estimate from them isn't the lowest, please remember that you are also paying for such intangibles as courtesy and worksite safety and cleanliness. Abell's attention to such detail is a hallmark of their complete professionalism.

Recent Review: Overall, it was an excellent experience. They were very efficient and on time. They got the job done and the problem was solved. They did everything that they needed to do to keep it from coming through the crack in the basement wall to fix the foundation. I would definitely negotiate a more on the price.
