Horizon Construction & Remodeling, Inc.
5.0
We chose Horizon to refresh the exterior of our home based upon the good ratings in Angie’s List and Houzz. They were very prompt in setting a time to meet with us. Leo listened very well to what we wanted to have done and then he walked us through how they would go about getting the job done. He detailed for us the many steps they would go through to prepare for the work that would need to be done for removing old facade, adding new stucco, painting, adding stone veneer and replacing patio fence. He explained some of the extra steps they do that others skip, which are important for a long-lasting result. Leo laid out for us the expected start time and timeline for completion. Based upon some other estimates that I had received, Horizon’s cost estimate was very reasonable. Their back-office staff was also very helpful to us in selecting the materials to be used on the job and working with us on scheduling. Once the job got started, it progressed according to plan, and all city inspections were completed timely without need for any change to the work they had done. The job was completed to our satisfaction, on time and on budget; they even did a few extra add-ons without charging us anything extra. Job well done, thank-you!

They came and initially gave me an estimate on the work that I needed to be completed. For those services that they don't provide, they were able to give me a referral to someone that they would recommend which was very helpful. For the stone veneer, they showed up on time and did an excellent job on the repair. You can't even tell where the repair was done. They cleaned up after the job was completed. I would highly recommend them for any construction projects that you need assistance with.

I have used Pier for over 20 years for projects both large and small, so I didn't hesitate to call on his expertise again when I needed to raise a long privacy wall in my backyard and cover it with stone veneer. First job was the removal of a huge vine which had covered the wall and had died. Secondly, he added 16 inches to the top of the wall. Finally, he covered the entire wall with stone veneer panels and slate on the columns. He finished the entire project in less than three weeks, and the result was absolutely beautiful! He pays such attention to detail and makes certain that we are 100% delighted with the final product. I highly recommend Pier for any type of work or renovation that you may have in mind.

Nick and his team did a fantastic job! They did quality work at good value and were always willing to work with us as we dealt with choices and options through the job; whole job was about 4 weeks and they showed up and worked every day, even Saturdays and one Sunday morning when they had to....Nick was very flexible and gave us great ideas and guidance throughout the project and helped us pick the right materials......I would recommend Nick and his team to anyone!!! We liked him so much, we signed up for his weekly lawn service....

They did a really good job. They were polite. They had the same crew every day but they had a different crew for different work. It was the same guys for the retaining wall and different guys for the pavers but they were consistent. I really liked them and they did a great job. The price was good. They were nice to work with and I would use them again.

The work appeared to go well, but a week later we found that the stone veneer in the front was already falling off. We contacted Albert, who promised to fix the problems the following Tuesday. He never showed up, doesn't pick up his phone when we call, and doesn't respond to repeated text messages. Zero customer service! At that point, we checked his license (930431) and found out that it is SUSPENDED! So why is he still doing business?? Once he had our money, he's become totally non-responsive. BUYER BEWARE!!

Victor Belman came out himself to bid and measure the job. He was in contact everyday through out the process both by phone and frequent visits. I can't say enough about the crew. They worked extremely hard and were always very helpful and artistic as we went through the many decisions with the design. The back yard was completely transformed into a lovely inviting space. The matching driveways completed the look. Construction of this magnitude is a dirty and loud procedure. The entire company worked very hard to complete our project in a very short time span. Couldn't be more pleased with the outcome!

FALKON CONCRETE-MASONRY-PAVERS
5.0
We selected Falkon construction and were very pleased with the final result. Our job had some unique aspects that required good communication and coordination with our contractor. The job was to install 177 feet of block wall around the perimeter of the property of which 53 feet in the back required a hybrid retaining wall. In addition, we wanted stone veneer pilasters to terminate the side walls. We submitted drawings to four contractors for estimates. Falkon was among two other estimates that were very close in price but we were convinced they?d do the job like we wanted and would do it right. We picked Falkon because Val listened patiently to our goals, understood the options we were considering, pointed out where there might be permit issues and finally, when grilled with questions, answered each thoroughly. Val was a pleasure to work with right from the initial site visit, through design iterations, through the permitting process and finally throughout the construction. The contract was detailed and the estimates were clear. Val was key in helping us find city drawings where we could combine a block wall and a pilaster to terminate the wall. Although most cities provide ?handouts? for block wall specs, not all provide ?handouts? for pilasters and that was the case for us. We were able to merge these drawings and obtain city approval. The other key contribution Val made was to get clarification on what the city required in terms of a retaining wall. Because of the slope behind the wall there was some question about what portion of the wall had to be retaining vs. freestanding. I had been to the city Building and Safety department twice (with pictures) and couldn?t get a clear answer from them. Val cleared it up when he went through the final permit process. Once we selected Falkon they put us on the schedule about 6 weeks out but were able to start a week early. They completed the job in exactly two weeks as promised. The excavation crew had the existing wooden fence removed early on the first day after which Val and his foreman Charlie set the string for the wall location. One of the things that impressed me about Falkon was that they wanted me to be there for all the critical events in case there were any questions. I was able to help answer questions about the property line and setting the exact wall location. Throughout each step of the process I felt like they were consulting me when required and listening when I responded. Correspondence was frequent and through email or phone. Val was there for all critical events. Charlie was always available. The crew was there promptly at 7:30 every morning and available to answer questions or discuss concerns. The excavation crew hand dug all the trenches and hauled out all material in wheelbarrows. They started setting rebar in some of the trenches on the second day. Excavating took a few days and all rebar was set by the fourth day and ready for inspections by Friday. All the footings were poured and the first row of block set by Friday night. The second week they set block. All block was wheel barrowed in and staged for the crew. They set a few courses each day. By the end of the second week the walls were up and we had the final city inspection. Stone veneer and top caps were installed on the last day. We really liked how the stone veneer looked on the pilaster. The walls were straight, plumb and level and that?s exactly what you want in a block wall. Val recommended we not tool the mortar joint on the side that was going to have stucco to prevent ghosting. Good call. All in all we were very happy with the final result and would not hesitate to call them back for additional work. Customer service was outstanding and the primary reason we selected Falkon. The entire crew was very dedicated, hard working, professional and skilled. They all take pride in their work. It was a pleasure to work with them.

Gary came twice because the first time we had not bought the hooks for the hat rack. Both times he was here sharp at the scheduled time and did all the work diligently and efficiently. Particularly the fixing of the veneer on the main door was a challenging job that required the previous removal of the door.

Belman Hardscape & Pavers

We met with Victor Belman and signed a contract for the project. Victor and his team were always professional, punctual and courteous. The job was started and completed on schedule. There were several cuts due to the crescent design of the patios which could have delayed the project, however, the crew of five, stayed late when necessary in order to stay within the scheduled completion date of three weeks. Foreman Emilio whom I consider the Rembrandt of the crew did an outstanding job on the wall and patios. He was amazing!! Some of the work had to be corrected due to a lack of communication between Victor and the crew. However, all corrections were corrected promptly and Victor and his team was always very easy to work with on the corrections. He would visit the job site once or twice a week and call every couple of days to ensure I was pleased with the progress. Lastly, when completed all of the furniture and potted plants were returned to their locations..

The project could not have gone better. Mike is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. He made good recommendations and we were not disappointed that we took his advice. Once the work started it only took three working days to complete. From estimate to completion the entire process was less than two weeks. It would have been quicker but it took about a week for the materials to arrive. The crew was courteous and professional and always showed up when they said they would. They took great care to keep the mess contained to a small area and protect furniture and surrounding areas. But best of all we are thrilled with the results. The workmanship is excellent and we couldn?t be happier with the results. We would call Mike again for future masonry work and would recommend him to others. We rated price as N/A because we have nothing to compare the price to.

EMINENT CONSTRUCTION

The project started great, with demolition happening within a day. the team moved quickly cutting off sprinkler lines and pouring sub grade gravel, sand and then pavers. What unfortunately was missed, the crew should have capped the line right from the house, and just run two new lines to the flowerbed. instead, they left the existing plumbing and attempted to cap every head. Well, a couple were missed and at one point the pvc was broken in a distant location. when the sprinker system was turned on AFTER the pavers were installed, water came up in 3 places. Miron was great in getting the team back out to fix. i felt bad for the entire crew, as it took a couple of attempts to resolve. Additionally, there was a situation where a number of pavers were stained with white stucco runoff, and even though we bought high end Belgard pavers, after several attempts, we could not remove the stain. Both Miron and Phil were great with finding a replacement solution. What i might suggest as constructive criticism here would be that an english speaking foreman or salesman be at the job site at the beginning or end of EVERY day on the job, so that accurate observations of progress and potential issues can be addressed. The entire sprinkler issue could have been avoided if someone would have just turned on the system, before the pavers were installed. The stone work was amazing. Miron and Phil found a team of stone workers who were able to install natural stone veneers and did a great job. He also found us a company to build and install a custom concrete counter top and bench seats. unfortunately, when the company came to first install, they had measured and poured wrong, so they had to completely redo and install just in time for Thanksgiving day festivities! But they made it! The fence work was not as great as the rest of the work, but willing to live with it as we were on a mounting deadline. We had our BBQ island shell outsourced by BBQs Galore and then Eminent did the finish work. All in all, after a few weeks of waiting for the stone to cure, Phil finished by sealing all the pavers, stone and countertops. We're very happy with the job and our new backyard! We were able to enjoy the holidays!

They projected two weeks and finished in 13 days. They were professional, on time, neat, kept me informed, worked 9 hour days and didn't disrupt any neighbors. They did use an electrical outlet in my back yard that quit working right before they finished and shorted or blew an electrical line to my pool filter and pump -- they did come back and look at the particular GFCI circuit and electrical wiring but couldn't get things working again, so I had to bring in an electrician. There is no proof they were at fault, but it did happen while they were there. This is the only possible negative part of my experience, but as I said, it cannot be proven that this was their fault versus something that would have happened eventually anyway. I have had at least a dozen neighbors and multiple FB friends both during and after the completion who have made it a point to compliment the entire project, which, while based on some of my concepts, was basically Nick's brainchild.

Andres' team was prompt and professional. They worked every day until the job was done. They were careful to preserve landscaping and cleaned up at the end of each day. Their stucco work is gorgeous. You will not find more beautiful stucco. They are craftsmen. The paint was expertly applied, too. I would hire them again in a New York minute! Great people to work with!

Pat was prompt every single day, if anything he arrived earlier than scheduled and began quietly working. By the time I woke up and went outside he had already prepped the area and had started working. He was very thorough and a master at his craft. Every day he and his partner ( another great guy) cleaned up the area before leaving. He told me exactly when he would return the next day and what he would do next. Honestly, he went above and beyond. He is a man of his word, great at his craft and an all around class act. Thank you Pat.

They have done work for other people in my neighborhood based on how good a job they did for me. They asked me for nothing down and have always been honest. He was the lowest of eh 3 bids I received.

Recent Review: I had just purchased a new town home in Santa Fe Springs that came with a plain concrete slab in my rear yard entertaining area. I wasn't happy with the look and decided to give Martin from Pacificland Constructors a call since he had done work on other rental properties I own. I told Martin that I wanted a new stamped concrete patio slab for my rear patio area. For our initial estimate meeting Martin came with several brochures from the different concrete colors available and stamp patterns for me to keep and help with my decision making. He explained the whole construction process. I felt very comfortable with Martin due to his honesty, professionalism, and his design help. I decided to move forward with the job and it came out great. His crew was done in three days (Day 1 - demo, Day 2 - concrete pour, Day 3 - clean up and sealer). I am very happy with his work and the area gave my BBQ grilling area more character. Definitely will be spending my most of my summer back here.

Recent Review: We cannot be more pleased with Lee's craftsmanship. This was a very complex project using a slot cut method recommended by our soil engineer. We met with 9 different contractors and Lee was the only one that had experience with slot cut. The soil engineer and 2 city inspectors were very complimentary when they come out to inspect the site. The entire project required approximately 18 inspections throughout the 3 phases. The city inspector commented that the excavations were the cleanest he has ever seen; the grading inspector indicated that drainage was done very well; and the soil engineer said that the job was done to his specifications and that he now has another contractor that he can recommend for future slot cut projects. He is a hands-on contractor and his pricing was very competitive. We will definitely use his services for future projects.

Recent Review: We had such a good experience with Lew and his team that not only did we do our kitchen remodel with him, we also had him build our entertainment center. Both jobs were excellent. They were on time, professional and the craftsmanship is well done. When we did ask for changes, they were very gracious in meeting our needs. I've heard remodels can be a nightmare, but ours was not. I can recommend Chelsea Furniture Design with confidence.
