This dishonest company took full advantage of my 89 year old, nearly deaf, Korean War veteran, father. The heater they installed 2 years earlier quit working. When my dad called for service, he was told that heating ducts needed replacing. The price they quoted was over $10,700 and my father, who can barely hear, agreed. The actual work took 2 technicians less than 3 hours each and this still did not fix the heater! Another Avis person came by the next day and installed a Limit Switch which only worked for a few hours. Finally my dad called another company who installed the correct Limit Switch at a cost of $304 and the heater worked fine. On their website, Avis lists "Low Price Guarantee" and "100% Money Back Guarantee". When we contacted Avis about the exorbitant price that did not even fix the problem, we spoke to the Manager Leo, who said that he "wanted us to be a happy customer and would work with us on this". He asked for comparative bids, which we supplied (both from experienced, licensed companies). We also sent a long letter detailing all of the related facts and asked for a refund of the difference between the lower of the 2 bids and Avis' price. Leo called back to ask questions but after several more weeks, never did anything to process any kind of a refund. Eventually we reported this incident to the State Contractor's Board. After they got involved and put pressure on Avis, we got a call from an Avis representative and we were finally able to resolve this. In summary, Avis recommended duct replacement that did not resolve the problem and likely was not even needed, charged an obscene price for this unneeded service ($10,777 vs the other 2 bids that were in the $1,200-$1,500 range, less than 1/10th of Avis' price), and did nothing to resolve it (despite their website "guarantees") until the State Contractor's Board got involved. What kind of dishonest company treats our frail seniors this way??? If you have heater problems avoid these crooks like the Covid, unless you want to pay for unneeded work at an obscenely high price that doesn't even fix the problem.
