ACCENT HOME REPAIR & REMODEL

Accent Home Repair & Remodel did excellent work putting in new carpet in two bedrooms, tile flooring in the bathroom, and fixing my master bedroom when a pipe broke in the bathroom. I thought that the price was great.

Very responsive and helpful on the proposal stage. Pricing competitive; project stayed on schedule. Quality of trade work varied. Stone & tile crews were very good, as was the plumber and carpenter. Painting crew was well intended, but took unnecessary short cuts that detracted from the quality, and required re-work on several occasions. Two areas of caution. First, be absolutely sure to get all commitments and expectations in writing with pricing. We experienced too many "after the fact" discrepancies between our verbal agreements and the original quote. Also, be aware that their project management is lacking, as no one is assigned to the job on-site throughout the duration of the project, so their is a serious lack of communication regarding day-to-day issues. This was problematic.

Very professional, reasonable in price and worked in a very timely manner. We leaned on the expertise of Maz Contractors on the perfect hue of paint to use for the kids rooms and master bedrooms and it came out perfect! We will definitely use their services again!

So far not so well, but they just started on October 21st. So far I have not been impressed. The demo was delayed so they actually didn't show up until the 22nd and didn't finish until the 24th. We are almost 3 weeks in and they have yet to finish the prepping the kitchen. As far as the drywall sheetrock and painting goes, the craftsmanship is unacceptable. I'm just so disappointed so far, I want to cry. I have a very small kitchen, 6ft by 20ft, my home is overall small but due for remodeling. I expected to have all ready by Thanksgiving, looks like work will go on until after Christmas. I don't know, will update once work is actually done. My rating is neutral and I'm hoping it's just a bad start but if it continues this way, I don't know. Just so disappointed.

Marwood Construction

Wow!!! Amazing results; better than expected or promised. My neighbor referred me after I saw the complete overhaul Marwood Construction had done to his entryway and living room; transformed! They doubled the size of their living room (added a fireplace and a wall of windows looking out on his yard) and added a half bath to the entryway. He was so pleased I'm surprised he hasn't left a review. I hired Marwood Construction to remodel and expand both my kitchen, master bedroom, bath and closet. The owner himself, Patrick Martin, personally came out and to give me a quote. He was knowledgeable and professional, albeit a few minutes late (he did call to let me know he was held up on another job). His quote was very competitive with the others I'd gotten, but it was Mr. Martin's vision and expertise that was the tipping point. He seemed to know everything about the construction of my older home built in the mid '60's, the challenges we'd face with my electrical and plumbing systems, and his suggestions were first rate. He caught things the other contractors had overlooked and easily won my confidence. The other issue was that I needed it completed before the holidays when my family would be in town. He had some other projects on the books so he couldn't promise, -made that clear, but he delivered!!! My giant, beautiful chef's kitchen was completed just in time for Thanksgiving. It was such a luxury to prepare our meal in my new big, gorgeous kitchen, with enough room for everyone to congregate and not get in my way! I was so proud of my fabulous kitchen. Marwood really exceeded my expectations!!! My bedroom used to be a tiny, dark cave with a very dated bathroom and a single closet (my husband had to use the guest room closet). When Marwood Construction finished, it is now my favorite space in the house! In the master closet we built a large marble island with drawers (including a hidden jewelry safe too, no more safety deposit box needed!), a shoe wall, a separate cedar closet and a sitting area. Our master closet is the envy of all of my friends and I feel like a movie star while dressing. We tripled the size of our bedroom, with floor to ceiling windows, a stone fireplace and french doors leading to a private patio. It is truly the master retreat I've always wanted! Overall, I couldn't be happier with Marwood Construction. I plan to use them again to update the family room. They were very timely, cleaned up their mess before they'd leave for the day, without any hidden/additional cost. Mr. Martin is the utmost professional and visionary!

Trifection Remodeling & Construction

We worked closely with the Trifection team to select materials used in the remodeling. Trifection introduced us to bath suppliers that carried products that we should consider for this work. After the materials were selected, Trifection prepared bathroom sketches to finalize the bathroom configuration. Once the configuration was finalized, the project was released for construction. All of the Trifection contractors were very courteous and professional as they did this work. A surprise issue surfaced with the bathroom mirrors, and Trifection worked with the mirror contractor to get it resolved. This was our second project using Trifection and we are very pleased with the final result.

First remodel with excellent results, some hiccups on the way. Outstanding job on wood flooring and tile. DWR sub-contractors did a great job on cabinets, plumbing and painting. DWR staff were professional and responsive in all parts of remodel.

Chapman-Lockwood Painting & Remodeling

We enjoyed working with Cameron and his crew. His team is very skilled, respectful and courteous. The project took place as we all were going through the shock of initial COVID 19 lockdowns and challenges the pandemic presented. Craftsmanship and overall quality of work was solid. The team took a great deal of care with prep work to protect the house, cover the floors, furniture, etc, as well as with follow-up clean ups. Client service was excellent. Like with any project, there were a few follow-up items and the team was always attentive to feedback and delivered. Along the way, we asked the team to work on several unrelated mini-projects which they always took and did a great job. We took a lot of comfort in Cameron’s leadership of the project, being present, always in touch with the crew and the client, and his overall professionalism. The team did a great job for us and we would certainly hire them again!

The Remodelista

If you want someone who has to do the work twice before it is done right hire her. They had to install the fireplace mantle twice before it was level. When the lights weren't working correctly the foreman called an actual electrician. I have photos of my cabinet installation. I had to call and say I did not approve. The installer had to try three times to get the holes for the plumbing to line up before it could be installed. The fix was a piece of plywood over the back of cabinet. The countertop edge does not meet the end of cabinet so there is a piece of wood to cover the unfinished edge. She doesn't do change orders for approval just says this will cost extra after the fact. One would assume when you have a gas insert and changing the front of fireplace the quote would include the cost of the gas insert extension. The installation of the glass for the shower we had stopped during the second try. The first time, the glass was the wrong size and had to be recut. The second try the door was not installed perpendicular from the floor. (The hinge at the top of the door was approximately a half inch closer to the edge of tile from the bottom hinge). They did not order enough tile to replace the tile with the holes in it from the shower hinge and when they reordered it was a different lot number and it was an obvious difference. She did search to get a different lot number and it matched. But was told at first the installer said wait until it dries it will match. That didn't happen. They wanted to install cabinets that were longer than my bathroom, I caught that and they changed the order. When the cabinets came in the wrong top cabinet arrived and they were going to install smaller cabinet. I told them I would wait until correct cabinet came in. Not sure it they ordered wrong size or were sent the wrong size. Seems like everything had to be done twice for it to be done adequitely. Ms. Gilberg, The Remodelista, also came to the site, but would leave without talking with me, I had to chase her down to ask questions . When I mentioned that I wanted to talk with her, her comment was I didn't want to disturb you. Best way to contact me is by text. Don't you want a contractor to check if you are happy with the work or have any problems. These are only the major problems, I would not use her again. Sorry I have trouble downloading photos. But was able to get under bathroom cabinet. They did fix, but as I said I had to complain.

Recent Review: They did an excellent job. Put down protection where ever they walked. Moved furniture out of the way so they could paint the walls and then put it all back in place. Main painter was Josie and his wife. They worked fast and did really nice work. We are also going to have new carpet installed and after that installation they will come back and paint the baseboards.

Recent Review: The Peraltas were fantastic. They remodeled one of our kitchen, living room, laundry room formal dinning room, installation of new kitchen cabinets and master bedroom. Sammy was extremely helpful throughout the process. They were clear in communicating the whole process and all the pieces necessary. They taped off and protected the whole path leading to all rooms and made sure nothing in the house was damaged. They went above and beyond to complete work that was beyond the scope of the original project and made sure the place looked immaculate after it was finished. The contractor was there on schedule every day and I saw consistent progress throughout. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

Recent Review: Getting the process started (estimates, scope definition, etc) took longer than expected but after the work started things progressed very quickly. The Project Manager was here multiple times per week and coordinated the demolition team, framers, plumbers, sheet rockers, electricians, and suppliers very closely. Of course, some change requests came up but they were handled easily and quickly. The entire team was professional, polite, courteous and worked diligently. In this business you get what you pay for. All Star is not cheap but they are fair and worth every penny.

Recent Review: B & W did exactly as I asked and the result was wonderful. In our master bedroom, there was a very large (8 foot wide, 16" deep) closet that was only accessible through a single, typical sized interior door. This made most of the closet unusable since is was very hard to access anything in the closet that wasn't directly in front of the small opening. The walls of the closet were in bad shape - there was a built in ladder on one side of the closet that led up to a small opening in the ceiling of the closet that gave you access to the attic, the walls were not pleasing to the eye - they had a bunch of patches that were not done very well, and the closet rod and shelves for storage were also a mess. This is the closet for our master bedroom and we desperately need a well functioning closet to easily store and access all of our clothes! B&W came in, tore out the existing closet interior and then opened up the wall to access the entire closet. They took out all of the existing interior and exterior of the closet including the ladder to the attic and the walls and the door. They then proceeded to "re-do" the closet from scratch, which is what we asked for. After opening up the wall, they found that in the adjoining bathroom, one of the previous owners of the house had ripped out most of the flooring when they remodeled the bathroom, leaving HUGE holes in the bathroom's underlying floor. This was interesting because this closet was very cold this winter and we never could figure out why until the closet walls were opened up we saw the huge holes in the floor of the bathroom right behind the closet. Apparently, when the bathroom was last remodeled, there were HUGE holes cut out of the subfloor were the plumbing was brought into the bathroom, and these holes were never closed off. B&W promptly closed up the holes and put in lots of foam insulation around the areas where the holes used to be.THEY DID THIS AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!! Now we know that the huge energy leak underneath the bathroom (which we didn't even know existed until the walls of the closet were opened up) is closed.Once they put new sheetrock on the closet walls and closed off the small attic access that was in the ceiling, it was starting to look like we had a brand new closet. Then, they put brand new bi-fold doors on the enlarged opening (which was now 6 feet wide as opposed to the very small door which was the only access to the closet previously). After that, they put the cherry on top by framing the new door and closet to match the same style of framing we have in the rest of the house. Matching the new framing to our existing framing took a lot of skill because we live in a Cratsman bungalow wth "old-style" framing. The framing materials match nothing you cam buy off the shelf these days so B&W did it all by hand, even ripping down most of the trim to match the width of the rest of the trim in the house. The result is a perfect match. Then they had to patch the wood floor where the exterior walls of the closet used to be but were not longer there due to the widening of the door from a small interior door to the 6 foot wide bi-fold doors we had put in. Luckily, we kept some additional wood from when we put new hardwoods in. B&W patched the matching hardwood we had into the existing hardwood floor in the room and you can't even tell there was ever a wall where they patched the hardwood. It looks like it was always there. We were skeptical when we started this job, thinking that the floor would never look like it had always been there, but B&W did a perfect match and now you would never know that part of the floor was put in after the wall was removed. Lastly, we had a brand new closet system we purchased from Costco that had to be assembled and installed. The installation was pretty intricate - not a simple installation like you have with the system you can buy at the Container Store. Two guys tackled the project. It was so intricate, it took them 7 hours to finish the assembly and installation! They did a great job - the new closet system is perfect. To sum it all up, B&W was extremely professional in their work. The workers were always right on time and took care not to get dust in the rest of the house as a result of their work. They put down paper to walk on so they would not damage our hardwood floor and they put up plastic to keep the dust contained to the small area they were working in. The owner, Greg, dropped by to check on the progress and talk to me about any concerns I may have, and was always readily available via email or phone. Most of our contact was via email. I know B&W does much larger jobs this our small project, but they were more than willing to do our job and fit us into their busy schedule. I am definitely working with this company again. In fact, we are working together right now to come up with a quote to re-do out guest bath and hallway. I am definitely looking forward to this next job.

Recent Review: Used them for 2 bathroom remodels in a rental property. Pros: Crew is courteous, friendly, and shows up on time ready to work. Job was completed on schedule or ahead of schedule. Crew cleans up area well EVERY day. Very good tile work. Price was fair. Not the cheapest. Not the most expensive. I got 5 bids. I was allowed some flexibility on the contract, which, if I hadn't had that, I wouldn't have hired them. They addressed any concerns I had as we went along. Good communication. I felt really good about them when I hired them after meeting Stacy Calahan who came to give me the bid. He is very realistic and accommodating. Reliability, skill, and honesty carry a lot of weight with me and these guys get an A in those areas. Cons: Wall texturing is not their strong suit. It was way too heavy and uneven. I don't recommend them for this. We had a mild conflict regarding a new spot on the carpet in the work area which I am certain was from their crew. I let it go because I figured I'd be replacing the carpet in another year or so and the fight wasn't worth it to me. Had that not been the case it would have gone differently. If you have a particular look you want for something, be sure you are clear and provide photos if possible. Otherwise you risk confusion - even if you've discussed it thoroughly.

Recent Review: This started out as just a remodel of the guest bath since Jim was not sure if certain walls could be moved and if the plumbing could be re-routed. As we opened walls, things were evaluated and decisions made to expand the remodel. Jim was very patient with me as I changed things as we knew more about the remodel. Pedro and Alfredo did most of the demo, re-tiling and plumbing. Jeff and Leonard built a custom linen closet that is just amazing. Andy [one of the painters] matched the stain of my vanity almost exactly. Jim made this remodel possible by carefully evaluating the changes we could make to the various walls without sacrificing structural integrity. I now have a very large, luxurious master bathroom where a closet, a small guest bath and hallway stood. A++ on the bathroom and A++++ on the cabinetry. Breakdown of remodel costs: $30,400 TWE and 9,000 HOS materials.

Recent Review: Everything went great. The online quote they gave was spot on. The sales guy, Trey, came out to finalize the deal and did not try to sell me anything else (but the Shower Guard coating which actually came out to be free with a rebate). Work was scheduled, and performed, quickly - less than a week from Trey's visit. The installation was performed without incident and our shower door looks and performs great. There was a perceived issue that turned out to be a non-issue, but Trey came out and made sure everything was ok.
