Rick and his team did an outstanding job. They combined their creativity along with outstanding craftsman ship to combine into a beautiful work of art. A showplace that I am very proud to call mine. It was like having a friend show up everyday. I did not use an architect or decorator and allowed Rick to use his best talent to create a showpiece. I could not be happier. If you are looking to remodel you defiantly need to meet Rick. He is an artist when it comes to cabinets and ideas

BAD FROM BEGINNING TO END. SALESPERSON IN STORE WAS PUSHY, CONDESCENDING, GAVE ME ERRONEOUS DATE, & NAME OF WRONG PERSON FOR INSTALLATION OF LOGS & MEASURING FOR DOOR. DIFFERENT PERSON SHOWED UP ON DIFFERENT DAY & DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING. LOGS LOOKED RIDICULOUS, ALL PERFECTLY LINED UP. NOW AFTER 4 WEEKS OF WAITING FOUND OUT TODAY THAT NEW GLASS DOORS NEVER GOT ORDERED, A "MIX-UP" IN THE OFFICE. POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES ALL AROUND

Texas Fireside

They were very prompt to do the initial inspection and meet with me over options. My fireplace was about 16 years old and the logs and doors are no longer available. They advised me on fireplace options at various price points with no pressure. I chose a high end gas log fireplace with a blower and remote. The install was a full 2+ days as the mantle had to be removed in 5 pieces as well as premeditation of a lousy initial install by the builder which had many code violations. They installed all new piping, leveled the fireplace (the old was not level) and did the stone work around the gap between the mental and new fireplace. It now looks very custom and works! I would not hesitate to recommend them, they were courteous and worked around my schedule

It was a pleasure working with Jim Johnson of Texas Select Builders. He keeps you informed as well as educates you throughout the entire project. We selected him to do our home remodel because of the high level of confidence we had in him after we interviewed him. We were very pleased w/ the quality of the work and quite frankly will contact him again for future remodels

Seek Design & Renovation

This was the first time my wife and I used Seek Desgin & Renovation. We had SD&R remodel a shower and tub and add a ledger stone accent wall in our master bathroom, remodel a tub/shower in an upstairs bathroom, add a floor-to-ceiling ledger stone accent wall around our living room fireplace, replace a sink vanity in our guest bathroom, and update/improve our kitchen lighting. The combined cost of these projects was about $30k. We’re very picky about quality of materials, workmanship, customer service, and design. We also like making our own design, material, and equipment decisions. So, we didn’t have any direct experience with SD&R design services. Given our overall highly positive experience with SD&R, we’d definitely consider hiring them again and recommend them without reservation to others for residential remodeling work. SD&R provided outstanding customer service. They were pleasant to work with and were patient, accommodating, and respectful of last minute changes in our design choices. Communication was generally excellent. Our numerous questions about project timing, next steps, technical questions, and design choices were quickly and clearly answered. They were generally neat and orderly in their work and respectful of our property. When something needed correction, they always promptly attended to it. SD&R’s proposal was price competitive, and they provided a step up in build quality and construction methods compared to quotes we received from other remodeling companies. For example, SD&R’s quote included installation of a water-proof membrane in the entire shower stall and tub areas, whereas other companies proposed only a partial membrane installation for a similar price. While there were some minor delays with our projects, generally the work was performed in a timely manner, which was impressive because all of our project start-ups were post-hurricane Harvey. Overall, we rank SD&R in the top 10% of residential contractors we have worked with in our nearly 35 years of home ownership. Again, we enthusiastically recommend SD&R for any home remodeling efforts similar to ours

I called to set an appointment and one of the owners talked me through, exchanged emails with pictures and refused any money. Mr. Booth was so helpful and kind to help me and was not put out by my questions. If and when I need a new fireplace I will surely call Westside Grill & Fireplace!

Lords Chimney
5.0
We have used Lord's Chimney for our annual fireplace cleaning and sweep for the last 4 years. This year we decided it was time to replace the old fireplace that was way past it's prime. We called Lord's Chimney to do a bid for us. They were very well informed of replacement information for me over the phone, scheduled me right away to come place a bid, and were very knowlegeable about what I needed versus what I thought I needed. We had grand illusions of this fancy fireplace, with a blower and all, and once the technician told me the cost of that fancy fireplace and that we really only needed a general replacement, we whole heartedly agreed. He could have sold us a fancy fireplace for more money but was nice enough to help us see we really needed a less expensive one for what our purpose was in the Houston area. I really appreciate that! We were scheduled for the replacement immediately (within 2 days of bid acceptance), and the two man crew that showed up on time, were very nice, professional, and didn't waste time. They did their job in a very proficient manner and were very knowledgeable about what they were doing. They explained everything they did and I appreciate that too. All in all, this was a great experience and I highly recommend Lord's Chimney to anyone in the Houston, Texas area. The price was higher than I thought, but that's because I had no idea what to expect for a fireplace replacement (I budgeted $2000, but that's because I just didn't know what it costs for fireplaces). So, please call Lord's Chimney the next time you need a replacement, new installation and/or a chimney sweep. They are always courteous and honest to work with

Dave Roundtree Handyman Repairs & Svcs

I contacted Dave on a Friday morning with a brief description of what I needed. We made arrangements for Dave to come by and look at the job late on Friday afternoon. After looking at the job Dave gave me a price and told me he was available next Wednesday morning at 10:30AM. Dave and his helper, Tim arrived on time resurveyed the work to be done and did an excellent job. The work entailed; 1.Determine the placement of the mounting bracket for the mantel on the existing brick fireplace. 2. Cut holes in the back and top of the new fireplace mantel so electrical wires could be run and a plug put in the top of the mantel. 3. Put the fireplace mantel and surround on the wall. 4. Put an electrical box and plug on the top of the mantel. Once again, Dave and Tim did an excellent job. They were careful while working on our new hardwood floors and freshly painted walls. We will definitely call Dave again in the future

Tech arrived when promised, was very thorough with evaluation--took many pictures, explained the process and what issues might be. Received estimate of job about 48 hours later and ordered fireplace from them. Installation will take place once it arrives. I will update post once installation is complete. So far, very happy with the process. Old fireplace was removed and stored on back porch. New fireplace was installed, new piping up chimney was replaced (new unit requires 8 inch pipe vs. 6 inch pipe); awaiting chimney cap installation to complete process. Matthew is very responsive and install has gone smoothly so far

FIREPLACE MAN INC
5.0
I had actually had a different company come a few months ago and they said they couldn't fix my fireplace. So I had gone to Fireplace Man's showroom to buy a whole new fireplace, anticipating it would cost me between $3000 and $5000. When I told the people there about my experience, they said their technician could almost certainly fix my current fireplace, so I decided to let them try. In contrast to the first company, whose worker could not even find the model tag of my logs, this fellow immediately found it, disassembled everything, ascertained the flawed part, and the next day brought a replacement. Now my fireplace is working great, and I saved a significant amount of money over replacing the whole thing. I was flabbergasted at the cost of the part; however, apparently fireplace parts for my model are discontinued, and it's a big problem to find the right replacement that can be warrantied. The part was $600, and the rest of the cost was labor. Money well spent. I recommend Fireplace Man because of their skill, and the fact that they passed up a chance to sell me a costly new unit. That kind of integrity earns a lot of goodwill from me

Vick Construction & Remodeling
5.0
I hired Vick Construction and Remodeling to install a new fireplace where one did not exist in my living room, frame it and put tile all the way to the ceiling, and add some shelves for my AV equipment to both sides. This was a pretty involved job, and I got several estimates, but Kevin Vick earned my confidence in several ways: he has experience with jobs like mine, he is very organized, and he was willing to document everything, putting all line items in the estimate so that there were no surprises. He worked with my schedule which was a little crazy, and actually did some of the work while I was out of the country. They were very careful, but they did chip one of my floor tiles. However, their people came out immediately and replaced it with no hassle. I am super pleased with the results. I got exactly what I wanted, and I cannot stress enough how pleasant the process was. I highly recommend Vick Construction and Remodeling

Superb service. Fixed a fireplace issue that the builder apparently did by a faulty fireplace install. could not be happier.
JT showed great energy, creativity and enthusiasm in designing our updated kitchen counter tops and back splash, as well as the fireplace. He reserved a great piece of granite for us, which we love. He and his crew were always very punctual and professional. The job was completed on time and on we are very pleased with the final product. JT always went the extra mile to make sure that we were happy with anything that he and his subs did
We were planning on replacing our deck, considering wood and pavers. Ricardo came out for a free estimate within an hour of when I initially contacted him. He?s one of the nicest contractors that we?ve ever met. We really appreciated how prompt he was. He had the opportunity to put in a $20,000+ deck remodel. He actually took the measurements, showed us the paver choices, etc. He sent the estimate to us that same evening. What really impressed me was that his actual recommendation was to replace our wooden deck with the same material we already had. We live in the Woodlands with many trees in our backyard. He told us that a wooden deck would be a better choice for the area of the yard that we were using. There was no hard sell for a paver deck, just to get our business. We decided to have a wooden deck built. However, we were still interested in having an area with pavers off the deck for our fire pit. Ricardo said that he would be happy to give us another free estimate for that area. Again, he came out for a free estimate the same day that we called him. We had received several estimates for this project but his was the best price. He was able to have the entire fire pit/patio area finished the next week. It only took a few days to fit our project into his schedule and a few days to finish. Ricardo was there quite often, making sure the job was finished up to his standards. We had an adjustment that needed to be made where our hot tub was. Ricardo and his team fixed the issue immediately. Our final result to a huge wooden deck was an awesome patio/fire pit/ hot tub area off the back side. It is beautiful, looking out from our windows. Ricardo helped pick the right color of pavers for main area and the trim. They actually complement the colors of the brick on our fireplace and our siding. We appreciate his promptness, his honesty, his suggestions based on his expertise, his pricing, the quality of his work, and the time it took to get our project finished. He deserves an A+++ and I highly recommend his company
They were professional, clean and did a good job. The service was really nice and they explained the process to me. They answer my question and I really like it. They were on time. I highly recommend him to customers and friends.
Vastine Remodeling and Construction did an excellent job completing our ceramic tile floors, quarter rounds on baseboards and rock wall and walnut mantle for our fireplace. Mantle was the biggest that I have ever seen. Three bathrooms and kitchen were included with good plumbing work too. Unplanned plumbing fixes were done for a competitive price. All closeout items were fixed on last day. Plan to start another project with them soon
We recently completed a substantial, large-scale renovation of our master bathroom using Jameson Alkema from Alkema Construction. We could not be happier! Jameson was an absolute pleasure to work with, communicated clearly his ideas, timeline, costs and any issues that were encountered; we live in an older home, so we did uncover some issues which led to additional scope and cost, but we had anticipated that would be the case, and wanted to make sure it was done right. On several occasions Jameson provided excellent design ideas that ultimately led to a much more open-concept bathroom than we had originally planned. The scope of our renovation included: - Removing the entry door to the bathroom and expanding to be an extra-large walk in bathroom entry - Removing dated built-in’s - Removing a walk-in closet which now serves as a free-standing bathtub - Removing a doorway to the hall to create a truly dedicated master bathroom - Removing a vanity and wall to expand the other walk in closet - Replacing the drywall, ceiling, light fixtures, vanity, shower and all fixtures - Re-tiling the shower and floors including creating a floor to ceiling faux-marble wall Our project was extensive, but despite the issues we encountered due to the age of our home (mostly bringing things up to code from the 70s), Jameson worked to minimize the additional time and cost. He also coordinated with all other vendors who were needed and helped pick up and return materials as required. He effectively communicated when he would arrive and leave each day, as well as what was on the schedule for that day. He also accommodated our travel (we both travel a lot, he had to do about a quarter of the renovation with us not even home) and was patient to work around our dogs. Overall, I cannot recommend him highly enough and will absolutely use him again for other projects! The quality of his workmanship is impeccable. Alkema is not the cheapest nor the most expensive – we had quotes nearly double Jameson’s, and he would be the first to tell you he’s not the cheapest – BUT, I am thrilled with the VALUE we got from his work considering his workmanship, finishing and attention to detail. I will also add, and this is very important in today’s world – he does the work HIMSELF. This is not the sales guy that gets your signature on the line and never shows up again, with a group of shady half-qualified workers to do the job. He does it himself only bringing in an assistant or trades-person when needed (like we needed a plumber because we ended up re-piping the bathroom from galvanized pipes, which requires a city inspector to sign off, etc.). Our bathroom is stunning, we couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Jameson
They did an excellent job! The work was done in a timely manner. Any questions or issues I had were addressed very promptly and to my complete satisfaction. I would recommend them without reservation for any project you might have.
Infinite Construction over-delivered on what they quoted. The orientation of my garage compared to my house provided a challenging configuration, and Charles was able to create a covered patio that exceeded my expectations! The finish work was wonderful, the electrical was what was agreed upon, and I appreciate Charles being open to discussion about any issues that arose throughout the process. Even though the whole process took a bit longer than expected, the end product is what was important, and in the grand scheme of things is not important. I would definitely hire Charles and Infinite Construction again, and I recommend him without reservation
Great company, AMAZING finishing on all their work. Everything was done with a very clean job. They are very easy to work with and are very responsive. We simply showed a few pictures and they made it come to real life! We didn’t have to even worrry about anything, they did everything for us without us having to do anything. I would highly recommend them to everyone
On 11-10-14 about 1:30 am I woke up and to my suprise my home had standing water. I was in a panic, When I figured out what to do I got some company listings off Google. I called and spoke to a few companies and gave my info. The first company to return my call was ABC Restoration and they called me about 20 min after I left my information. I spoke to Phil Bryant and as upset as I was he was very calmimg and reassuring to me that I and my home ws in good hands and he could have a 2 man crew dispatched out to me and at my home in about an hour. I answered a few questions and then I waited. About 15 min later I recieved a call from Crew Cheif Benjamin and he told me he was in route and confirmed my address. As stated crew arrived on site with in the hour time frame. They were very courtious, friendly, patient, and explained the entire process and what to expect and what was going to happen in the next few days in my home. They placed equipment, performed demo and sprayed my home. I am lucky enough to have insurance so ABC billed my insurance direct for all the mitigation. I paid my deductible and ABC performed repairs to my home and got us back in order and back to our normal routine. Everything was brought to us and everything all happened as planned by ABC
Leo the technician called me in advance to let me know when he would be arriving at my home. He was professional and knowledgeable about the products that are offered by Houston Custom Installers. He mounted the tv to the wall and then programmed my remote and cleaned the work area. I would definitely recommend Houston Custom Installers to anyone needing to mount their televisions to a wall, fireplace, etc
We had a patio built in our backyard. We interviewed many contractors for the job. Matt was not the most expensive or the least expensive. We chose him based on how he responded during our interview with him and we called some references. He seemed very capable and had some photos on his website of patios similar to what we were looking for. Both my wife and I worked and we have dogs in our backyard. Being timely was very important for us because we had to put our dogs up, and at the time of the work there were day time break-ins occurring through the back yard bedrooms in the neighborhood; so, it was important that our dogs were out patrolling the entire back yard to deter any would be burglars while we weren't home. I would say that timeliness for the subcontractors was hit and miss. Sometimes they would show up when they said but other times they wouldn't show up until hours after they were supposed to be there or they might not show up at all. I would have liked to see them do a bit better cleaning up for each day, but I guess it wasn't the worst. There were always buckets of nails on the ground and trash and debris. I suppose you would probably find that with most jobs. Our yard is still damaged from the construction nearly a year later. We still don't have grass growing near the patio and the ground is very unlevel where they dug to put the gas and drainage lines. Because I cared about how this project was going to turn out and wanted to think about what I wanted, I actually spent time to lay out some rough plans of what I was thinking in a CAD program. I gave this layout of my plan to Matt (and the other companies we interviewed) for quoting purposes. He came back with the quote and agreed to our payment plans. We awarded him the work. When we started to have some issues about details, I asked Matt for his detailed plans. He never provided anything. I honestly think he was using my layout and they were kind of just going by what they had done in the past. This was extremely frustrating to me because they would start to do something or put something somewhere without even asking my wife or me about it and in these instances what they were doing would have taken away from aesthetics or would have been much less functional, or both. I would have to stop them and ask them to change what they were doing. Much of the time I felt like I was doing the work of the contractor (Matt's job) and making sure that the work was being done properly to what was agreed. They were supposed to tear down all but one beam on our breezeway that runs from our house to the garage to build it wider. The contractors simply built on top of the existing structure. When I called Matt's supervisor about it, instead of him agreeing that is was not correct, he wanted me to explain why it was a problem. I talked with Matt and Matt agreed that they shouldn't have been building on top of the existing breezeway and that he would come out the next morning to look. He did show up to look and agreed that it was not correct, and after he left, the roofers showed up to start roofing over the structure. I again had to call Matt's company and talked to the supervisor again who was seemingly irritated by my insistence that the roofers not roof over that section that was built improperly. Ultimately, the breezeway was torn down and rebuilt the proper way. Next, I had to argue to get these guys to strap down the main beams of the patio to the walls of the existing structure. We live within the 90-110 mph Hurricane wind zone and it doesn't help much to use hurricane clips on the roof rafters if the beams they are strapped to are not anchored to anything. They did finally strap them down, but they were not going to. We had an outdoor kitchen installed and they ran a gas line for the grill. They had no intentions to put a sleeve on the outside of the gas line. You need this for two reasons: 1) if you need to replace the line you can easily pull it out if it is in a conduit and run another line in if necessary, and 2) the gas can escape should you develop a leak. I had to ask them to do this and again they ultimately did it but not without some insistence on my part. I also had to ask that they put a tracer wire on top of this PE gas line so that utility companies could actually find it with their detectors should I not be around to point it out. I had the cement contractors put down a bed of crushed granite and bank sand under the concrete slab. We have terrible clay in our area and the granite and sand will help limit some of the movement from the clay hydration and dehydration. As an important tip, make sure the brick absolutely matches the house if they have to knock out any brick in your home. The actual order of brick may not match as good as the samples you look at. Get an actual brick if possible. The brick we got for the patio was much redder than what was on the house and what the samples looked like. The brick layers were able to do some things to make them look like more of a match to our house. Ultimately, it was a good thing I was able to find some old bricks from the house to fix the hole in the side of our house; otherwise, we would have had a bad mismatch on our house and a real problem. The electricians that did the wiring for the outdoor patio were a couple of hacks. The dimmers they used do not appear to be very good quality. The lights flicker on any setting below full brightness. They told me I had a problem with one of my volume switches when it turned out they just didn't know how to wire a speaker (or didn't want to). They did everything haphazard. The switches were crooked and cut marks went beyond the cover plates of the switches. They didn't align the speakers or bother to make them straight. When I questioned them on it they stated that a stud was in the way. They straight out lied about it and I caught them on it. Matt was willing to redo it, but I did not want to wait more time and deal with more construction and frustration, and I definitely did not want those electricians back at my house. By this time we were sick of it all. Finally, the quality of the outdoor kitchen seemed a bit lacking. The sub-frame was sheet metal that was screwed together. Other companies actually discussed welded frames. Had Matt provided me a plan of any sort we could have discussed this. It may last a while. I do not really know, but the welded frame would have definitely been stronger. I felt like Matt did not oversee our job close enough and was counting on his subcontractors to do the job right. I realize that he tries to keep these subcontractors happy so that they help him out, but it seems to be at the expense of the person he is doing the work for. To his credit, Matt ultimately did what we asked of him and was pretty accommodating, but I felt it was too much of a struggle and lacking in detail for someone that is rated an "A" on Angie's list. It did not seem that he was building our patio to last. Before anyone does work, make sure they are working to detailed plans and that they go over them with you to make sure you are on board. I felt like I had to work entirely too hard for this project, and they were the ones getting paid

First, getting a pool and outdoor kitchen/living structure that we wanted is difficult in Kat, Tx. There are hundreds of "fly by night" companies, and plenty of nightmare stories. With that said, we had spent a couple of years watching all our neighbors and friends build pools and structures, and listened to all their mistakes and contractor stories. Needless to say, we interviewed about eight builders. Some, never called us back (which was a blessing in the end). We contacted Ken Klare two years BEFORE we started this project. During that time frame, he was always responsive and courteous. We underwent several design changes. He was always upfront and honest on what could be done, and what would not work out in the long run. This was a far cry from most of the companies who would tell us "sure" to about anything. One dynamic associated with this job, is that we have one particularly difficult neighbor. Predicting multiple "run-ins" with him, there was only one small isolated incident. That is a statement to the level of care and professionalism exhibited by the crews and project managers with the company. Strong Points: 1. Very profesional crews and project managers. They were clean, picked up their trash, did not leave crap everywhere, were courteous parking on the street, respected our neighbors and block, and took great care. For example ALL the plumbing lines were dug by hand... hard work in the Katy clay. 2. Nice people. When ever I called, someone answered or called me back quickly. I felt safe with the workers there around my family. When they said something would happen, it would. 3. They were working EVERYDAY. Someone was there everyday, doing something. Of course, this was a massive project; so, there was plenty to do. None the less, they were there and it was built quickly, and came out wonderful. 4. Quality of the equipment and materials. Everything was top notch. From the wood and stone to the pool equipment. You absolutely get what you paid for. Weak Points: 1. Selection for items such as Granite and Decking was limited. Of course you can upgrade for more money. However, let me stress - this was still very nice items. 2. Cost overun. You can always figure on a certain percentage for cost overrun. We had some drainage challenges that I expressed from the very beginning needed to be addressed. I should have followed up on that closer. Again, the work was top notch and will outlast us. You just need to address this before the project starts and "nail it down". Overall, you get what you pay for. You either pay for it on the front end, or pay for it later (usually at a greater expense). Our experience with Custom Outdoors was nothing short of exceptional. I highly reccomend them. I can not say enough good things about them. When you have a company that their contractors and project managers have been with them for 15 plus years, you know you have an exceptional company

It went very well. He was extremely efficient and professional. He came in, did his job, answered our questions - all very politely - and left. One thing I really appreciated was when we asked about the iron (or whatever) plates on the bottom of the firebox... he told us ours were fine, they did not need to be replaced. He didn't try to get us to pay for things we didn't need. I liked him and will use them again
After having not used the chimney and fireplace for about 20 years, and having major foundation work recently completed, we wanted to have the chimney checked and cleaned out so that it can be used. Arrived as promised, and proceeded to check the fireplace, flume, and inside of the chimney from the fireplace opening. He cleaned out the chimney quickly. He then went outside and went on our 2 story roof to inspect the chimney cap and check down the chimney from the top. No problems or cracks were found and he said the fireplace and chimney are good to go for use
