I called for an estimate on new laminate (to match existing Pergo) in part of the house (about 1000-1200 square feet), and new bathroom counter tops (one 6 feet and one 8 feet), and laminate tiles. After spending an hour or two in the house, I didn't hear back from him for a couple of weeks. I'd already given them a sample of laminate so I went by the showroom to check up on the status. The "showroom" is tiny. He still didn't have a price worked up for me or itemized anything so I could see what things might cost. Plus, he only had one sample he recommended for the counter tops. I was disappointed nothing had been done really, and wasn't impressed with the single selection he recommended. After asking repeatedly about what the cost might be, he said something like $10,000 or 12,000 which sounded like a lot for relatively little. I'd done about 500-600 sq feet in high quality Pergo before for about $3000 so I was thinking $7500 would be closer to a fair price, especially since he wasn't offering high quality Pergo and some very common looking granite. I wasn't impressed and told him I'd changed my mind. I took back my sample of laminate and left. I decided I'm going to have the work done by different people. One just for floors, and someone else for the counter tops. I'm also considering the Miracle resurfacing folks since they seem to do a good job with a fraction of the trouble (or so I've heard).
