Our experience was that he did a fine job and we were impressed with his hard work and professionalism. But, there was one thing that was not done as well as we had anticipated. We asked for kitchen cabinet hardware to be installed - now we have one drawer pull that is not level, and two others that need fixing. Otherwise, we were impressed with how much he got done in the time given, and would hire him again.

DITHER PAINTING.
5.0
We knew we were going to have to hire the right painter since our recently purchased house was in Ohio and our home is in Texas. Dither was the right painter! His communication was excellent; he responded to any questions I had immediately by text, clarified work to be done, and offered suggestions on paint colors (which turned out to be spot on). During the two week project I happened to be in the Columbus area and stopped in unannounced. I was impressed with the professionalism of his crew. I was also impressed with how they covered EVERYTHING in plastic (light fixtures, stair rails, furniture, floors, (even the car in the garage!) to prevent paint splatters. They arrived promptly each day and finished the project on time. After the painting, we had new floors installed and Dither came back to touch up the floor trim. We had Dither paint our outdated honey oak cabinets white and they look like they were always white! They even installed the new door and cabinet hardware I provided. We are so please with the finished work and have no hesitation recommending Dither Painting.

Brian was neat and thorough. He was very careful to clean up after his work. He made suggestions to us on the style/color of hardware for the cabinets and he was spot on. He showed us photos of what he proposed to do to reface our cabinets, so there were no surprises. My kitchen floor is really off level. Brian painstakingly cut several shims and attached them to the existing base cabinet tops to level them out for the countertop installation. He encountered several other problems because of the off level floor but he still made everything look good. He was punctual within 30 minutes of agreed upon time. If he was going to arrive late on any given day, he let us know the night before. He came every day from start of project to finish, except weekends. He did all the work - no subcontractors. Outside of Brian's fee, my other costs were for the light fixtures and cabinet hardware.

The Remodelista

We have a very large kitchen which meant our kitchen remodel was a very large project. Teri (The Remdelista) guided us from the planning all the way to the finish line. She guided us on choosing the stone, tile and paint as well as many other details. Teri knows her business and does not rely on guesswork. She advised us where we could save money and what we needed to do in terms of "getting ready". Her granite guy Juan and tile guy Tony are real craftsmen and did a beautiful job. I heard many remodel "horror stories" from family and friends prior to our project. No horror stories for us. The project was not painful and the finished product was exactly what we hoped for. We are very glad that we contracted Teri.

Gary and his assistant Sam arrived right on time and were ready to begin the projects immediately. They worked efficiently and quietly to complete all projects. They were very careful and cleaned up after themselves. Gary and Sam were both professional, courteous and respectful. They left nothing unfinished and made sure to complete the projects to my satisfaction. I am very pleased with the results and the quality of their craftsmanship. I would recommend them highly and would definitely hire them again. In fact, I already recommended them to my next door neighbor and she immediately hired them to complete some work in her home.

Dan is THE MAN!!! Everything was completed in a professional and timely manner. Dan was clean and very mindful of how my house was taken care of during his services. I think it was even cleaner when he left than when he got there! That's a huge pet peeve of mine - it just speaks volumes about a business owner. My kitchen is now absolutely GORGEOUS! I would recommend Dan to anyone - actually have referred a co-worker. Dan is going to remain my 'go-to' man for all the upgrades and renovations I want done in my home. I have a list and he will be doing the work. No job is too big or too small for him.

Brushstrokes Painting & Remodeling

We called Cameron in October and told him we wanted the kitchen remodeled and repairs made to the living room and guest bedroom. Cameron came out the next day and gave us a bid. He said he could start as soon as he finished a current job. He gave an approximate date by the end of November or first of December. Cameron called a few weeks later and said that the actual starting date was moved up to November 5, 2012. Everyone showed up on the date and time that was expected. There were no delays for the next month. Brushstrokes set every day for production. There are no days skipped because the electrician had an emergency or the painter was sick. It was a complete and fluid production from beginning to completion. In addition, Cameron gave us many creative suggestions for adding more space in the kitchen, and it turned out beautiful. My wife is ecstatic. By the way, this is the second time we have used Brushstrokes, and it just keeps on getting better!

Overall the process went well. Jose and company were very accommodating and really helped us out of a jam. I asked him to do many extra small tasks that weren't included originally. He did them all for no charge. See pros and cons below: Pros -Jose is very responsive. He always answered my calls, communicated well, and did everything we asked without hesitation. We went through about 6-7 samples to find the proper paint and distressing style for the cabinets. Jose and team worked with us throughout that and were very patient. -The hand crafted cabinets are well made and the style we asked for. -The bid included all labor and materials. Very convenient for me as Jose and his guys went out and procured the matching crown moulding to the rest of the house, picked up hinges and drawer rails, purchased proper matching paint colors, and even went and purchased the cabinet hardware I had picked out, among other things. -Built a very nice custom fireplace mantle based on a picture we provided them. -Hauled trash and debris away from the house promptly, without my asking. Cons -There were some minor quality/attention to detail type issues. For example, some cabinets and hardware weren't install properly (i.e. straight and level enough), so I had to ask a few times to have things fixed that I would have thought they would have seen and fixed on their own, because they were pretty glaring. With that said, they did make sure to get everything fixed. -The project took significantly longer than expected. Granted, the project scope was expanded about halfway through, but even after that Jose's timelines seemed to be little overly optimistic. -The team was a bit careless at times, not properly covering furniture which resulted in some issues. Jose worked to have all taken care though, including having a steam cleaner come to the house. -The price may have been a little high...considering the money paid I would have liked to see some of the minor quality issues corrected by them before I would have to say anything. Overall, I am happy with the job they did and would hire them again. The small quality issues I noted above were the main reason I could not give an A rating (I would give a B+ if I could). If they were to take the time to make things top notch before I walked in (which I know they are capable of), I would be able to give an A rating. Perhaps these are standard issues with any contractor, and maybe I would find it hard to ever give any of them an A rating.

Crossroad Restoration

The demolition was accomplished in a timely fashion, but the items removed from the bathroom (cabinets, toilet, tub, etc.) were left on my back porch for nearly the duration of the project. David had said that he would take care of all removal, and did not request that we rent a construction skip for disposal. Much of the still-useable components removed from the bath (cabinet hardware, sink and fixtures, tub and surround, mirror, light fixtures, etc.) were given to David for his wife to re-sell, with the proceeds going to a favorite charity of hers. Despite that, he still left most of the aforementioned on our back porch until we finally insisted that he remove it, or that we would dispose of it. Not only dangerous for us, but less than professional behavior on his part. The installation of tile and tub were a bit rocky, as we were short on the amount of accent tile needed, and had to order that. David had a lot of difficulty with the plumbing for the bathtub and shower also, taking a full day to sweat the pipe properly so that it would not leak. Also, the tile job that was done was horrific. There were no spacers used between the tiles, so the grout lines vary from ½” wide where the tile meets the tub, to less than 1/8” in other places. There are tiny bits of tile on nearly every run, and the grout in the left rear corner of the tub has already cracked from the top nearly to the bottom, with gaps and separations showing in many other places. David also did not clean the tile properly after grouting, leaving traces of grout on the very expensive accent tile we used. I have had other professionals evaluate the tile job, and all have pronounced it amateurish and in dire need of replacement. This is the main reason I’ve filed the complaint against Crossroads Restoration – so that I can have a decent tile job done in my bath. The next problem was with the placement of the light fixture. David refused to measure to see where the mirror and medicine chest would be installed, and then harangued me until I told him where I wanted the light fixture. As a result, the fixture was mounted nearly 12” too high, and looks very strange. It’s so far up that the light bulbs under the covers are CLEARLY visible. I’m very unhappy with that as well, but am willing to leave it be so as to avoid having to redo the sheetrock and paint. Our next issue came with the paint. David’s work was extremely sloppy, with ceiling paint ending up on the walls, and wall paint ending up on the ceiling. He brushed it aside when I pointed it out to him, and did nothing until I’d made several requests that he fix the problem. He refused to use painter’s tape or a shield to create nice straight lines, until I got mad and insisted that he make the changes I’d asked for. When he repainted the cabinet to match the dark vanity, he did the same thing; no painter’s tape/shield to ensure a nice straight line. I had to have him redo it three times, and I think maybe the third time he used the tape. I’m still not thrilled with the look but I just lost patience over having to fight with him over every little detail. I could go on and on, but this is long enough. Suffice it to say that I’m really unhappy with the work performed by David Rose and Crossroads Restoration, and I would like reimbursement for the tile and labor so that I can have a real professional come in and do a good job. The cracks in the grout are of great concern to me, as I’m worried that water will seep into the sheetrock behind and cause mould to grow.
