American Wood Reface

I want to thank Bruce, Jim, Carlos, Rob and the whole American Wood Reface team for my new kitchen. I cannot believe how beautiful and functional the kitchen turned out. Everyone with whom I dealt at American Wood was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about their products. The two installers Carlos and Rob keep everything clean by covering up floors, appliances, and closing off the work area. They were on time, asked questions if needed and explained what they were doing. I was very impressed by their work ethic, the quality of their craftsmanship, and attention to detail. I am more than pleased with the results and would highly recommend American Wood Reface to my family and friends

The job was done by a crew that was the most professional people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The cabinets are beautiful and the kitchen was left in immaculate condition with nothing to clean after they left. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Superior Custom Cabinetry

In March of 2021 Superior Custom Cabinetry came to give us quote on refinishing our kitchen cabinets. The young lady that came to give us our quote was very thorough in explaining the entire process from start to finish. Her attention to detail and willingness to answer every question or find out the answer to our questions are what sold us on using Superior Custom Cabinetry. The work was done in April of 2021 by two young ladies. They were meticulous and did all they could to minimize overspray as well as dust. It took them awhile due to some unforeseen equipment issues, which happens. But overall we were delighted with the finished product. The reason for the 4 star review: At the end of our island we had a wine rack and it was just a dust collector for us. We were told that a panel could be placed in its place to cap the end of our island and would look like the rest of the Island. We thought that would be great and had them put a wood panel over the wine rack. We did like the look that it provided, but when they painted it we became aware that there were several markings on the end that looked like someone had taken a pen and made several grooves in the wood. We were told this was just the grain of the wood on the panel. They came in filled in the grooves, but because they had already sprayed everything they had to paint with a brush and brush marks were left on the finished product which show up in the sunlight. We didn't care for the look with the finish on the panel They also took our a lazy susan corner cabinet out to refinish and when it was put back together the cabinet shelves now rub the frame of the door when it is turned. It was not this way previously. They came back after the paint had a chance to cure, did some touch ups and adjusted some cabinet doors. They looked at the lazy susan and told me that they would have to get in touch with John and get back with us. We have yet to hear from them and it has been at least a month. These are my only negatives on a big job. Overall I am pleased except for the aforementioned. Our kitchen cabinets do look really, really good

Professional and high quality workmanship. About a year after installation we noticed one of the white cabinet doors had developed a crack. True to their claim they replaced it within a few weeks at no charge. Excellent company.

American Wood Reface team (Matthews, NC) did excellent work on our kitchen reface project. It transformed our old, flimsy, discolored cabinets into a high-end look with quality cabinetry. It improved not only the appearance but also the functionality and utilization of our small kitchen. Work included new doors and crown moldings on upper cabinets, conversion of all lower cabinet doors to deep "pot drawers", deepening the above-fridge cabinet including custom vertical storage for baking pans and pull-out trays for large item storage, and adding a custom shallow pantry cabinet to flank one side of the refrigerator. The quality of work was excellent. Quality of materials is also excellent. Thick wood drawers glide easily and fully utilize all of the under-counter space. We now have much more storage, even though the kitchen's overall layout was not altered. All of the space is now fully utilized and easy to access. The floor-to-ceiling pantry along the refrigerator gives a beautiful custom-look to the kitchen and puts spices and other ingredients in a well-organized place within easy reach. The deep pot drawers are absolutely great, as it stores all the heavy cookware within easy view and reach. We are delighted with our project's results and highly recommend American Wood Reface for this work. The work was very professional, completed on time, and very cost-effective compared to new cabinets. We've received many compliments on the results

I can't say enough about the quality and professionalism of AWR. Each professional scheduled arrived on time and gave us an accurate estimate as to how long each appt would take. The two young installers (Carlos and Patrick) were two of the nicest, most respectful workmen we have ever worked with and they each worked their craft METICULOUSLY. The quality of the AWR solid wood cabinet doors and facings is terrific. They were able to swap some doors for pull out drawers and took the time to reconfigure a heat vent cover to tidy up the look. If your cabinet boxes are in good shape, you can save a lot of money by refacing instead of replacing

Not well. Why? Had multiple issues with initial install, cabinet doors that would not close because of overlap, trim installed incorrectly. They did not answer calls for a month! (later was told, sorry we were busy with a bigger job than yours). Two more trips by installers, 3 months later and still same problems. But at least they are regular about sending a bill every month. Finally after several months, the trim was corrected. And I was ground down. There are still some minor issues with doors, but I would rather live with them than continue to deal with this company. The very pleasant pre-sale demeanor became rude and non-responsive post sale

He was excellent. He did all the cabinets and the cabinet work. He even came out when it wasn't configured the way we wanted. He came back and redid those a little bit. My mum lives in a retirement facility. He came out and did some under cabinet work for her so that she could pull drawers out on a roller. Instead of throwing away your stuff under the sink, she had it where she could pull it out and put stuff in there. At 97, it was a big help. We wanted a table where she can sit on her lazy boy and when the feet go out on the lazy boy, it tipped her back a little bit and she had to prop her head up to see the television. He built her a table that put the TV high enough so that she could see it. It was very convenient. The table looks great and he didn't charge much either. He was really good

This company installed our cabinets and countertops and from the beginning we had problems. The measurements were taken incorrectly for the cabinets and we had to make changes that were not totally satisfying to us but we compromised with SI and gave them the job. Second, we had our countertop crack which they replaced, but now the other counter is cracked and we are having a difficult time getting someone to come back and fix that. It appears that now SI has our money, they don't want to stand behind their product and take care of their Customers. We have reached out to them several times with no luck. We want them to stand behind their product and replace our counter which is cracke

Alcorn's Custom Woodworking Inc

We met with Richie Alcorn - a very pleasant man and experienced businessman - several times and extensively discussed design for custom kitchen cabinets. On Sept. 25, '09 we agreed on the job and made a substantial payment. We were promised the job would be completed in 2-3 weeks. Before & during his work on our job, he was doing other smaller jobs. We were then told it would be done by Thanksgiving. We planned for a family dinner but ended up in a restaurant. Richie asked to be paid in full at the end of November, before the installation was finished. Ultimately, our first meal was Christmas Eve but the job was not completely done. Well into January, we waited for completion of cabinet drawers and some touch-up paint. Part of the plan was for our microwave to go in an upper cabinet. Richie did not want to measure our microwave and said they were standard sizes. When the cabinets were in, our microwave did not fit and we had to find and buy a much narrower one. We needed an exhaust fan over the stove, told Richie we wanted a quiet one and asked for his advice. He recommended as "whisper quiet" a Broan 1500 cfm with the blower outside the house and said it was the only kind he carried. We had never heard of an exterior blower but took his advice. After paying $1,700+ for the blower and $200 for electrician's installation, we had a very loud fan that sounded like a jet plane. I told Richie on the spot I did not want the fan because it was too loud. He arranged for the Broan representative to come check the noise. The Broan man said the fan was working properly, was 3-4 times stronger than we needed, was intended for commercial/restaurant use - not a home - and should have been vented to the roof. For the last 6 months, I have repeatedly told Richie I do not want the fan and want my money back. He has not stood behind his recommendation and expects us to take the loss. He says his business is so slow it would take years to use the credit he'd get if he returned the unit to the supplier, that he's trying not to lay-off his employee, he can't afford the loss and can't give me back my money. He offered to give us a good deal on any future cabinet work - I just want this expensive mistake of a fan out of my house and my money refunded. He did a little ceiling repair that we had not discussed in the original price and said we'd settle that when the job was done. When I asked for the money back on the fan, he said I also owed him several hundred more dollars for removal and disposal of the old cabinets and for crown molding, both of which were discussed from the beginning and should have been included in the amount paid. Bottom line: Love the cabinets, was very inconvenienced and disappointed at the delays caused by his prioritizing other jobs over ours and am very unhappy at getting stuck for a very loud, expensive exhaust fan by someone who will not stand behind his recommendation

Excellent! My husband was given Mike's name as a recommendation to install kitchen cabinets in our rental home. We were under a very tight turn around time so Mike was out the very next day with samples and to measure the room. After agreeing on the cabinets, Mike provide us a quote, ordered the cabinets and had them installed in a week! During this time line Mike was in contact with us almost daily helping us find a person to install granite countertops that would meet our timeline as well as updating us on the status of our cabinets. On the day of installation, my husband said he did a great job of using a laser to level the cabinets, as this is a much older home. He assisted in tearing out old floors at the last minute, due to some other unexpected issues. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we were very lucky to find Mike. We would highly recommend him to anyone and in fact we already have

My house is not fancy. I didn't want to go overboard with this project. They understood and didn't pressure me to buy the most expensive things available. My cabinets are beautiful. It's 2 years later and I still love them. The glaze they recommended was just the thing. The hardware choice was perfect. Everything opens like it should (lefthand/righthand). My entertainment center is awesome. They took my ideas and improved upon them They knew what size to make all the compartments for current and future needs. They did not have a problem when I wanted to change the backing of the open shelves. They knew I wanted bead board, but I didn't like the size. The took it out and put in a larger panel design

I contracted the job in December 2018 -- everything was thoroughly explained before purchase, and the work began January 2019, as promised. The kitchen cabinets were stripped down to the boxes, which were oak, and in very good condition. I ordered birch for the doors, sides and bottoms, in a beautiful red oak stain. (My cabinets didn't require tops.) I couldn't be more pleased with the quality/construction/thickness of the wood, the Amish wood crafters did a PERFECT job, the grain and stained color are outstanding -- I continue to be very impressed every day with the beauty of the wood. I also had thick shelving installed inside the cabinets, as my old shelving was thin and bowed/bent down. The included cabinet hardware is so attractive, with a life-time guarantee. I had the lower cabinets replaced with drawers, and a large pullout drawer installed under the sink. I also had the 'silent close' hinge feature added to all the cabinets and drawers -- no more banging cabinets!! The installers, Mike and Robert, were hardworking, VERY detailed, wanting to please -- *the best workers I have ever had on any project, ever*. The cabinet doors are lined up perfectly at each edge. They stayed with the job late, until every detail was complete. I think it took a little less than two days to complete. They swept and cleaned up all mess. Since then, I have had two service calls regarding adjustments on the hinges, and the quick repairs were done excellently, no charge -- thank you, Tim! *I also received superb recommendations for hiring others (Steve) for countertop, backsplash and flooring. I cannot praise this company enough for the quality of service and product, plus the quickness in responding to any questions or service call I needed. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone -- Outstanding!
Michael and Ken were fantastic to work with. Ken maintained a level of perfection with all of his work and I was able to rest easy knowing that he had my best interests in mind. I am incredibly pleased with the end result. It took a little longer than initially expected and there were minor set backs along the way but nothing out of the ordinary. Each of the subcontractors they hired did a nice job
Painters arrived on time and were very professional They saved me $600 or more for not having to replace my vanities. After they were finished they looked like new. I also had three bedrooms painted. Each one had some damage to the walls. Once they patched, sanded primed and painted the walls, they looked great! I was very impressed with the attention to detail they provided. Painting is so not my thing and they made it an easy process
I did not know anyone who would do the job, so I asked for help from Angie's List. I was given three names--House Doctors (who never returned my two or three calls), Mr. Handyman of Winston-Salem (who told me my backsplash did not need replacing) and Harbison's Repair Solutions (who said he did not do that type of work, but sent me a list of ten companies or individuals who I could contact). I called the top five names on the list. One returned my first call and left a message, but did not return my second call. One came to measure, but never gave an estimate, though I called him at least twice. One made an appointment, but did not show, then said he nol longer did laminates. (The company? Laminates Unlimited.) One wanted me to give him the measurements that another person had given me and he would give me an estimate over the phone. (I nixed that one right away!) Mr. Ray Stevens of Magic In Counters, Inc. came right away. I watched him measure carefully, including the backsplash (which he said, indeed, needed replacing because it did not lay flat against the wall). He said that the cabinets above the counter were not the same distance above the counter, so he would need to take the backsplash off and make a template and he would need to back up the backsplash with fairly thick plywood. (I cannot remember what he said the thickness was). He was able to get part of the needed laminate and was able to do the countertop fairly soon. A couple of days later he was able to complete the backsplash. The whole job looks WONDERFUL! I am very pleased. The price was only about five dollars more than the other estimate that I received which did not include the backsplash
Outstanding work. Carpenter, Mark, was meticulous, professional, and very nice to work with. Very happy with the results and the job was finished early. Would definitely recommend them.

Great service. Professional from the planning stage to the completion stage. Excellent carpentry work. Built upper cabinets new and changed some lower cabinets to large drawers. Refaced balance of cabinets. Very pleased with everything. Highly recommend.
