Reviews in Grand Rapids to Prepare Building Site

RM Groundworks

A few years ago I moved to a new house. One of my side yards was sloped quite a bit, going down to a creek. I also had a backyard that was quite rutted and unsuitable for family games. In the spring of 2020 our road was getting paved, which involved lots of extra "free" dirt being moved out of the area. I had at least 15-20 dump trucks of dirt dumped on my property. My plans were to build a retaining wall in one section and grade and reseed parts of my property. I was planning to move the dirt myself to save some dollars. However, this would have taken me three weeks or more to do because of all the roots and debris that had to be cleared. I ended up hiring Rob and in a matter of just a couple days he moved the dirt around for me and also tilled it smooth several times. All I had to do was seed the lawn and cover it with straw. For this project he worked around my time schedule the best he could. As he moved the dirt around, my family was removing roots and debris. Rob had the tools and the knowledge to help me create a more usable lawn and make it look so much better than if I would have tackled this project on my own. His price was very reasonable and fair. If I would have tried to rent similar machines to do the project myself it would have cost me more and taken longer. My sons were also grateful that I spared them many weeks of work. If I had a future project, I would not hesitate to hire Rob again.

We were very happy with them. They were professional and quick to respond. They were here when they said that they would be here. We had one little problem where it sank a little lower than where it was supposed to and they fixed that right away. I asked them to write it in that if there was going to be another problem then they would come out and fix it as part of the deal. They said that they would as a sure thing and that there was no problem in doing that. They were very easy to work with. They were very co-operative and efficient. We had no complaints. They wrote what happened to go wrong and that they would come back if there was any other problem. So, we were happy. It got bunched in with the other things and so, I don't know the exact price but I think that they were reasonable. They seemed fair and reasonable. They dug a hole and filled it. The quality of their work was very good and so was their responsiveness. Their punctuality was excellent. Their professionalism was very good.

They started the job but they got so busy that they couldn't finish the landscaping part. They replaced a drain field. If you have city water but not city sewer and you have to pay for your drain field it can be very expensive. I spent about $4400. A bigger company would have their own vehicles for excavating. This guy and his wife came out to do the work and I think it got too overwhelming for them. They dug a 60 foot hole in the ground and they run the pipe work in it. Its a pretty involved process. It was our first time using them. I would not recommend them because they did not finish their job. They left and were supposed to bring in topsoil and so on to pay down. So my husband and I finished up on our own.

Tubergen preformed the work within 48 hours of my call. He was responsive on the telephone. The staff were courteous, efficient, and cleaned up the dirt they excavated in the process. They worked with the City of Grand Rapids to change the line out to the road as well. I couldn't be happier with their work.

They did a very high quality job, with minimal collateral damage to landscaping. They were great to work with, though we had some misfires on when the job could get done. But I believe that was due more to the fact that excavation companies have been super busy in our area. These folks couldn't be nicer. And really exceeded my expectations in the final execution. I would highly recommend them.

DIRT CHEAP EXCAVATING

If your looking for quality work, would like to be mislead and pay double your quoted price, look no further. I had the owner, Kenny Wittenbach, come out and bid on the excavation for a custom home I was building. He was very cheerful, pleasant and easy going. He gave me an estimate of $8,000. After meeting with him I felt very trusting. We did have one minor change that should have been $1,500. We were not half way through the project and he had already billed $10,000. I think I would be over $20,000 if I kept going. I will be renting equipment to finish my job now that he has eaten up the budget he set for me. If you would like for information and would like to see the project feel free to call me (616) 745-6623.
