Force Home Services

I thought that I needed a humidifier for the bedroom wing of my house. Angie's list was offering a "Big Deal" to have a humidifier and humidistat installed for a discounted price from Force Home Services. I signed up for the discount. I thought that the company would contact me to schedule the service. Turned out that I was to contact them which I did after a month or so. They scheduled a tech to come out and look at the job. He arrived on schedule, climbed up into the attic (where the air handler is). The description of the requirements for the job posted on Angies List indicated that access to a water line (such as in a bathroom) should be within 35 feet (which was the case). The tech explained that they required access to the water heater to tap into a water supply line. My water heater is on the other side of my house (about 75 feet away). The extra labor and material would be about $200. I decided to reevaluate my options. After buying a simple humidity meter I determined that the air was not as dry as I thought and that a couple of room humidifiers would probably be more cost effective and less difficult to maintain (the new humidifier would have to be located in a rather inaccessible place on my air handler). Based on this information, I decided to not have the humidifier installed. The only negative aspect to this experience with Force Home Services was that communication problems (scheduling original appointment and misinformation regarding the access to water)

I called them to come out and look at installing a humidifier. Drew, their VP of Products did come out and take a look. Given the configuration and location of the water heater and heating units- there were significant additional costs to installing the humidifier. We decided not to pursue it at this time

Brown Service Co.

My family have used Brown over the years with good success in workmanship but the price always seemed a little high. Very good workmanship and quality. I called them again but this time they bid 3,600, almost exactly double what three other HVAC company's quoted me. $3600 vs $1800. They really just didn't want my business. Not sure why but I highly recommend you shop around

The home is new and there was no room in the plenium to install humidifier. It would be necessary to "Y" off one of the ducts to install the humidifier. Discussed with the contractor and decided to cancel the install.

M.GREEN A/C AND HEATING

These guys hung in there to make it right, full credit on effort and making it right. Choices and consequences were great, no Upselling. Some improvement could be gained in attention to details, a couple of connections were fragile, wires fell off with a wiggle, a water line began to drip, upon inspection. These were corrected upon finding without complaint. They worked tirelessly to re establish air balance for me which was beyond our agreement

Bill Joplin's Air Conditoning & Heating
5.0
They subcontracted/coordinated with an electrician to run 220v to the attic. Subcontracted/Coordinated with a plumber to install a copper pipe for the water. Made and installed a larger fan plenum. Installed a new controller with outside thermometer for condensation prevention. In all it was about 12 hours of labor performed by 6 licensed contractors. I don't even want to know what someone who charges less for this would have done. It was a big job

Stevenson's Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc.
5.0
They were polite, on time, and great. They went out of their way to figure out the plumbing to set everything up for us. They cleaned up after themselves. The unit they installed has cut our heating bills some and has made the temperature a lot more comfortable. They were really good people to work with especially when it came to scheduling. I think they were one of the best contractors I have worked with

Berkeys Air Conditioning Plumbing & Electrical
5.0
experience was very good, continuation of strong service from Berkey's. 1] replacement of outside faucet (i.e., hose bib) went fine, not even a need for me to do any brickwork repair afterwards. Estimate provided was amount billed. 2] had a need to disconnect plumbing for the humidifier in HVAC unit. Technician took a look-see at the set-up, provided estimate, and did the work. No clean-up required afterwards. Technician used covers over his boots when entering the hours, every time. Invoice was as expected, was also able to have it emailed to me for long-term reference

Aire Serv of Fort Worth
4.0
I originally heard ads on the radio for 2 other a/c companies that were giving huge discounts. I called those 2 and found 2 others on Angie's List. Aire Serv was the 3rd quote that I got. Allen was the rep that came out. He was very thorough and informative. The measurements that he took were the same as the others and he came out with the same 3.5 ton as the others did, but he gave me a detailed explanation and other sources to look up. We had a disconnected air return. The other a/c companies just said they would hook up a return that was disconnected and just basically said yes to whatever I wanted. Allen suggested a better way to get more air return. Aire Serv's quote was about $2000 less than the next lowest quote. The next lowest company did come down to within $900, then said they could match quote, but would charge I think it was 1-3% if I used a credit card. Aire Serv didn't charge extra for pmt w/AmEx. (Also, that 2nd company was late for appointment.) On the day of install, the techs called to say they were on their way, would be here within 30 minutes. They arrived around 9am and finished at about 5:30pm. The tear out and install went smoothly...until the humidifier was installed. They had a separate tech that had to get the humidifier working. We got the new steam humidifier by Honeywell. The tech was not able to make it by the time the installers left, but called and said he was just leaving the last job and could be here in about 2 hours. I wasn't going to be home so said to come back the next day. (I didn't pay for the install yet since it wasn't completed.) The tech came the next day & worked on the humidifier for about 6 hours, still couldn't get it to work. I made appointment for him to come back following week. In the mean time, a/c & heat worked, just humidifier not working. I got a call from rep asking for 1/2 cost of install and said that I was ok with that. Then owner, Kelvin, called and took credit card info. The following week, John came out again, figured out it was a bad part and replaced entire humidifier unit. Installed the new one quickly and got it working. I called their office and paid balance. Next day, humidifier stopped working "press reset" button lit. Called again for service. They sent Steve their tech mgr and it took him awhile to get it working after being on the phone with Honeywell. (Just checked humidifier again, "press reset" light on again, but can't run heat right now since too warm. Going to have to call again maybe even get rid of humidifier) Overall, Aire Serv did everything they could to get my HVAC working correctly. The a/c works great, all rooms are cooled evenly now. New system is quiet. Just hope the humidifier works when we have to turn the heat on. Aire Serv did a great job, very courteous, cleaned up after job, good value for $

Air Patrol Air Conditioning
4.0
Air Patrol was originally called out to confirm a gas leak with a Furnace. They quickly identified the problem and offered a $700.00 fix. Given it was an 18 year old furnace, I decided to replace it with a NEW Carrier furnace. This end of the project went perfectly and I would have given Air Patrol "A"'s all the way around had this been the only service proviced. At the time of service I discussed the need for Humidifiers and went ahead with the recommendation for two whole house humidfiers. The initial installation went fine, but one system did not produce any tangible results. Shawn came back and recommended we add a Carrier Edge Thermostat in the family room (this moved the humidistat to the room) at a discounted price, but this still did not produce any tangible results. At this point Shawn offered to give me back the money for one of the humidifiers, but because I already spent more money to solve the problem (adding the Edge Thermostat), it made no sense to me and I preferred Air Patrol figure out why the room humidity was not getting to where it needed to be. This led to the installation of two more humidifiers as well I requested another Carrier Edge Thermostat. Upon completing the last installation and after leaving my home, one of the furnaces where one of the humidifiers had just been installed tripped a breaker and went out. I called Air patrol back and they found one of the humidifiers just installed was bad. They returned again the following Monday to replace the bad Humidifier. Now all seems OK. I gave Air Patrol an "A" for effort, punctuality, Professionalism and clear interest in satisfying the customer. Shawn and his team made every effort to acknowledge the issues and took responsibiltiy for those without question. Hence I'd try them again. Quality gets a C solely based on the Humidifier Installation - the time it took, the challenges faced, and the bad Carrier Unit (Not air Patrols fault). As noted before the furnace quality would have been an "A". Price gets a C not because prices are unreasonable, but because the cost for the originally recoommended humidification solution ultimately costed me twice as much as originally envisioned. I appreciate the effort made by Air Patrol

Diamond Quality Services

This was part of a Big Deal from Angie's List. The original description of the job said that access to water (such as a bathroom sink should be within 50ft, which was the case, however, after the technician reviewed the situation he informed me that the access would have to be through my water heater which more like 80 ft away, and required some tricky routing. This would essentially double the cost of the job and might be a source of a water leak in the ceiling in the future. I determined that the complexity of the job would be much more than initially implied and decided against the project. There was some confusion as to when the the estimation would be done; I assumed that the company would contact me while they actually were waiting for me to contact them. The installer technician was very honest and informative about the scope of the task and my alternatives. After purchasing a cheap humidistat, I determined that I did not have a humidity deficiency problem anyway so I did not need a system humidifier. I elected to use a room humidifier as needed; this gave me more precise control, was much cheaper and did not present potential problems with running a water line in my attic and injecting water into my air handler plenum

Texas Air Zone LLC

Excellent - Texas Air Zone has always responded in timely manner and done very professional work. Recommend them to all my neighbors and associates for any work.
They were kind of hit or miss. It depends on what technicians showed up. I felt like the technicians were trying to up-sell what I didn't need. Some of the technicians kind of knew what they were doing. They guy was telling me something was broken, when it wasn't broken. I was turned off by the company because of that. The most recent visit the guy was most competent. Their pricing is competitive. They are pretty good. He told me the system running and have no issues, most likely he is trying to up-sell you. That kind of rings the bell. I don't think I would recommend them again. I would search out another company
He is very educated and knowledgeable in his field; he really knows what he is doing. He comes when he says he will, his price is always fair, and he’ll tell me if he sees other things at my properties that are a problem so I can take care of them. He stands behind his work and if something goes wrong within a few days and weeks that he’s been there, he feels terrible about it and goes back to fix it. He’s a young family guy and he does a good job
The installers initially didn't understand how to wire in the humidifier so that it would turn on and off electronically; after my husband told them how to do it, they agreed and went back to redo some of their work. Overall, the work is excellent as is the product. Dana, the sales person, is highly informed and educated about his products. Normally we shop around before buying from the first person (especially on a big purchase), but this time we felt so comfortable with Dana's knowledge, that we didn't shop around
