The quality of their work is awful, and they don't honor their warranty. The asphalt driveway that they laid is falling apart after less than a month, it has deep cracks and chunks that are breaking off. Allen Buchanan said that he would send someone out 5 weeks in a row, and blew me off 5 times by not showing up. They claimed that there is a 2 year warranty, but they will not even send someone out to come see it, much less repair it. Allen Buchanan's word is worse than the quality of their work, he has zero integrity. The job also went $10,000 over budget compared to their initial quote, which I would have been fine with if they did a good job. You have been warned, steer clear of these crooked amateurs.

Elite Asphalt LLC

A lesson on always get it in writing first: Elite Asphalt came out for a project estimate and later called me back with a quote for $2200. I liked to have fell out of my chair at hearing such a low estimate and told him that just couldn't be right; that was cheap! He told me that there were a few factors in place; I already have more than enough base gravel in my driveway, that a planned project had been cancelled and therefore they had a load of asphalt ready and that the boss wanted to keep his crew busy and would rather lose money and gain a customer and more from word of mouth and neighborhood referrals and so on. So, I told him I was waiting on a check to hit my bank and would call him back to set it up. Within 30 minutes the salesman was texting me that the boss wanted to go ahead and get his crew on it the next morning and that I could just pay the invoice when my check came in. Well, if I thought cheap sounded fishy, this made it even more so. I told the salesman that I'd just assume have the money in hand and he replied that they trusted me and do business like this all of the time. Finally, I told him to send me the quote along with payment terms. And, BAM! A quote of $22,000, NOT $2200 hit my inbox along with 18% interest on any unpaid balance so on and so forth. Obviously, I made sure he understood he was NOT to send any crew; that I was certainly good for $2200 to pay by check but not $22,000! I'm not suggesting the owner is behind any shady practices, or even the "boss" the salesman spoke of. I would hope the salesman was inexperienced and that he misspoke. I sure didn't mishear because we talked about how cheap that was. Regardless, get that quote in writing before giving the go ahead. Elite Asphalt gets great reviews and are undoubtedly deserving of those reviews. And, the salesman was very nice and polite. I wish we could have done business because that was one heck of a deal!

We paid $30,000 for a driveway. After 2 months, we called as it was starting to crumble. We have 18 month warranty. We are still under one year. The owner refuses to call us, or honor his warranty. When you call his office, he is always at his vacation home. We have had to seek counsel and he even refuses to call our attorney back.

Quality did not match pictures on their website. Poor finish, uneven edges. We have cracks in the new driveway two weeks after completion. Crew left three big piles of trash and scrap asphalt hidden in bushes on on the property. We didn't find the trash and scrap untill after they left. I have called and asked them to come clean it up and repair the cracks, but have got no response.

MICKEY CONSTRUCTION

Fantastic! We couldn't be happier with the job completed by Stephen and his crew of professionals. He showed up precisely on time with a large crew and demolished this ugly asphalt driveway and the crew set the forms and rebar by the end of day one. He showed up on day two with double the crew size to pour and finish the concrete. By 2:30 PM at the end of day two, they were finished. Stephen was very flexible and was even able to fit our job in a week earlier than expected. I received quotes from six contractors for this job. His price wasn't the cheapest, but very competitive. If I need any concrete work done for any reason, I'm calling Mickey Construction. Awesome!

After a slight delay getting a quote for our driveway from Mickey's Construction, we are really pleased with how it turned out. Mr. Mickey was prompt with the meeting time to measure our driveway and also prompt on the day the project started. His crew did a good job removing our old driveway and prepping for the concrete one. He and his crew cleaned everything up and hauled the previous asphalt away. We would use this company again and recommend Mickey's Construction if asked.

Billy was easy to communicate with and very professional. We needed our 1951 asphalt driveway patched and redone -- while maintaining the concrete curbing along it. I asked Billy to price it two ways: scrape up and redo or patch and resurface. He dropped by our home and examined our driveway. Then called to discuss my options. He was very honest and upfront about it. We decided to resurface because our driveway was in good enough shape, and it was cheaper. Billy let me know his schedule and what to expect. He showed up when he said he would. Did exactly what he said he would. This was all done on a verbal handshake since at this point we had only spoken on the phone. My husband met him at the end of the day to review the work and do the paperwork/payment. Billy called me the next day to make sure I was also happy with the work -- which I was! He also said he would drop by later to make sure everything still looked good.

He did a fabulous job. Everything they did was good, they were very professional, and it just looked fabulous when they finished. The price was reasonable, and he had told us another driveway that was a couple of miles away, so we got to see that before we used him.

Jim's Paving & Chip Sealing
5.0
We caled Jim. He came the very next day, gave us a great price per square foot for chip sealing and patching. We agreed and said, "let's do it". Jim said his crew would be arriving in a couple of hours. They arrived on time, were finished in about 3 hours. Whenever any little problem arose, Jim was on it and resolved things quickly. I recommend Jim and his crew highly. It's no wonder that he has the highest rating on Angier list.

Matt Carroll called me shortly after I posted my request on Angie?s list for a Chip Seal estimate to replace my badly damaged gravel driveway. Within a few minutes I received the official estimate via email. Matt called back and said they could start the next day, weather permitting. Matt stopped by the next morning to discuss the project with me. That?s when I surprised him with the news that I had changed my mind about the type of driveway I wanted. He took the news in stride and gave me a new estimate for an asphalt driveway instead of Chip Seal. I was shocked and amazed by the amount of equipment and crew that had already arrived to do the job. I?m sure Matt had to do some major shuffling to accommodate my last minute request, but he never gave the slightest hint that it was a problem or an inconvenience. I now have a beautiful new driveway, thanks to Matt Carroll and his outstanding crew.

I contacted three asphalt driveway contractors from Angie’s list to get estimates to work on my asphalt driveway. I picked M Carroll to do the job because they worked harder than the other two companies to get my business. I initially contacted them on Thursday afternoon and the owner, Matt, came by my home a couple of hours later to personally evaluate my driveway and give me estimates for both laying down a asphalt cover and for applying chip seal on top of the old asphalt. He also provided a copy of a work order that listed listed terms & conditions and warranty details for the contract. After I had received some estimates from other companies, I emailed some questions to Matt about chip seal paving and he responded quickly by phone to discuss them with me. Aware that I was entertaining several offers, he agreed to both lower his price and schedule the work immediately in order to beat the other contractors. The very next morning he showed-up at my house about an hour ahead of schedule with a crew of about 7 people. The crew immediately got to work and to my eye they looked liked they had done this about a million times. Everybody seemed to know their jobs, they worked efficiently and acted professionally (nobody stood around idle and no chitchat). Three hours later they were done and my 2,800 square feet driveway was chip sealed. Matt’s son Jim was there to provide a written receipt and collect payment. Not being familiar with a chip seal driveway, I asked him to fill up one of my 5 gallon buckets with chips in case I wanted to touch up an area or two and he was happy to provide this. The new chip seal driveway looks great! I’m writing this review a couple of days after they did the job and we’ve had no issues with using the driveway. It’s spring and severe thunderstorms have rolled through our area in the last several days (including the evening after they did the job) and the rain has not disturbed the driveway at all. The quality of the job seems to pretty good. They were careful to apply the tar just on the driveway and not hit the sidewalk, garden or fence. The edges are nice, clean and tidy. The gravel was mostly laid down at a consistent depth although there are a couple of small spots where I can see the tar and that makes me think it might be a little thin in those spots. They also left behind some bits of tar along side the lawn that they should have picked-up and disposed of. Still, these are pretty minor issues. I used a little of the chips from the bucket to touch up the few spots I thought were a little thin and that fixed them right up. Overall I would rate the quality as very good and the price/responsive as excellent. I would definitely use them again.

Wayne King is the owner of this company, drive way okay but sloppy clean up on sides of the drive, and he damaged by gutter to my work shop with the bucket of his machines. I called my individual to replace gutter to the work shop. His problem he is too much on his cell phone while operating machinery. He quoted me $4,000 to do the job and when he got here and started the job and told me the price is higher by $750.00 due to the grass was wet. I personally would not hire his company the prices changes, did the same thing to my friend, he forget he quoted her $800 and was trying to charge her 1200. Hire at your own risk!!

Paid $5000 to have Chip N Seal done on our driveway. He says he gives a one year warranty. Within 6 months we had weeds popping up EVERYWHERE! We spoke with him numerous times, but he would not honor his warranty. Even contacted BBB, but no luck with that either. We are still battling the weeds. Complete waste of money.

Recent Review: I am very pleased with the work done by East Texas Asphalt. My nearly 20 year old driveway had some serious damages that needed repair. The repairs made by East Texas Asphalt exceeded my expectations. They also resealed the entire driveway and corrected other smaller areas that were deteriorating. I would call East Texas Asphalt again! And will recommend them to others.

Recent Review: We contracted with John for residential driveway construction back in May 2020. At the time, he was the most experienced and held positive reviews on several websites. John assured us that his quality of work was "over and above", plus "we would have nothing to worry about" when our city would later update the storm drainage path in our neighborhood. However, the favorable reviews were polar opposite of our experience. Between receiving his bid proposal and the commencement of work done six days later, major issues were citied by our city for John's work. Improper drainpipe, non-compliant driveway approach, plus lack of storm drain safety culverts. It became apparent that John did the work without seeking a permit. John agreed to come back to meet with us and the city engineer. However, John never showed up. Numerous calls and emails to John's number have been made since. Calls are not returned for the most part. If he does take the call, John's verbal commitments to follow up go unanswered. JR&R prides itself on the positive feedback and customer satisfaction. This homeowner spent 3 hours cleaning up debris left by his crew as they were eager to leave and start their next project (see photos). IF permit process was done by JR&R during the 6 days between his bid and the date of his earliest availability, our driveway curve approach and safety culvert would have been discussed between parties, as they were part of city code since Feb 2009. The same city code requires culvert pipe to be reinforced concrete, not tin, as John recommended. In contrast to his warranty, JR&R has not responded to multiple efforts for addressing a solution for correcting his work. Furthermore, this homeowner recommends reading other reviews (positive / negative) on Google, before conducting business with JR&R Concrete and Asphalt.

Recent Review: Matt and his crew were knowledgeable and professional- the price was exactly as quoted. We were leaving to go out of town and he sent us pictures so we could see the progress and the finished product-we really liked that because the pictures gave us peace of mind. Matt and his crew installed about 2300 sq. ft. of asphalt so we thought the price was great! The driveway is beautiful!

Recent Review: The paving project looks very good. However, due to questionable business practices, we will not use their services again. They originally gave an estimate of $4,500. After multiple attempts to contact them James finally came out and looked. He said there was no way to get his machinery into the playground area, and all work would have to be done by hand, needing several additional people, a lot of extra labor time, and at an additional cost of $1,200. So he stated that the cost of the project would be $5,700 and I agreed to that.Looking at the old pavement, he mentioned that periodic sealing would make it last much longer. That was the only mention of sealing. No mention that sealing was an extra. No mention of any extra cost. No estimate. Nothing.Saturday morning they show up between 9 and 9:30 am and begin work. I look out later and see two men riding a large asphalt paving machine, another on a large skid loader with bucket dumping asphalt in the hopper, and another riding a rolling machine. Good, I thought. He was able to use his machinery after all and I would not incur the additional $1,200 costs. They finished about noon. I happened by and he said the guys were taking a (long) break and would continue later. I went back by later and he showed me how they were applying the sealer and were already over half way completed at that point. As we were walking away he mentioned how the sealer cost $29 per gallon and not sure how many gallons he would use. Since he had never mentioned any extra cost for sealing, I assumed he was just making conversation and that was the standard last step in the project. He said they had extra asphalt left over and noticed our drive entries needed repair. He said he could use the left over asphalt to pave those. I said OK thinking this was a good deal for him to get rid of the extra asphalt and for me to get the entries paved. My fault. He did not mention he was going to hit me for an extra $2,200. I did not ask and can only blame myself. Still???When they finished, another guy (James had left) presented the invoice. Imagine my shock to see the $5,700 price still there for "doing it all by hand", nearly $2,000 for sealing, and another $2,200 for the drive entries.I asked why the $5,700 since they used machinery instead of "doing it all by hand". He said they had two extra guys working. TWO GUYS! FOR $1,200. FOR 3 HOURS. REALLY? There was a small amount of hand spreading/screeding around four poles and two corners near a door. I would expect that there would be some amount of hand work on most any project.I asked why the $2,000 for sealing. He said he had heard James telling me that it cost $29 per gallon. Yes, but James had never told me it was extra cost for me, had never asked if I wanted it, and had never given me an estimate to do it.After everyone left, I picked up drink cups and bottles left in the work area. They had taken a water hose from the playground to use in the parking lot for water. The hose was left laying in the parking lot area. They opened the back gate for access for their machines. The gate was still standing wide open where they left it.And I later found they had damaged some retaining walls around a play area that they conveniently forgot to tell us about. An e-mail to them has gone unanswered. I texted pictures to James and that has gone unanswered. The original estimate form we received an e-mail came with the heading Cates Paving Services. In a reply from them the same estimate form came with a heading of Gentry Paving Group.
