American Tornado Master

We decided to put in an above ground tornado shelter because of all the tornadoes in the area last year. We had one within 5 miles of our home the other year. I did a lot of research on-line and American Tornado Master was the only local area dealer that had all of their designs tested at Texas Tech Wind Science Engineering Center and engineered to meet or exceed the FEMA 320/361 and the ICC-500 Building codes. The shelter is also well constructed with heavier gauge materials than most of their competitors and they also powder coat the shelter instead of just using paint (more durable). We found the price to be higher than some other competitor's standard prices that I found on-line, but felt the quality and testing of their product was worth the extra cost. I know that they were really busy since it took almost a month and a half to get a salesman to even come out to give us a quote and go over our options. The only thing that I found disappointing was the lack of a firm delivery and installation date. I was told they normally would get the installation done in 3 to 4 weeks, but due to the amount of business they had, they could not be certain. I did not hear anything from the company after 3 weeks and called the office to check on the installation date. They did respond to my calls, but still could not give me a definite delivery date. They did schedule the garage foundation check for cables and plumbing (install prerequisite) during the 4th week. I then received a call on Thursday (4th week) and they asked if an installation on Saturday was OK. I put some of my weekend plans on hold and told them to go ahead since we wanted to get this done. The installers did a good job and were very careful. It took about three and a half hours to have the shelter unloaded and installed. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the tornado shelter. It is also an excellent safe room as well.

Gimme Shelter

After years of researching storm shelters and waiting on the long list for a state rebate that never would be a reality, I could no longer place a price on my piece of mind. There were many factors affecting my decision to purchase from Gimme Shelter: -These shelters are F5 certified, exceeding FEMA 320, 361, and ICC 500 protocols (these are the shelters that we see featured on the news/weather stations undergoing rigorous testing at Texas A&M) -Taylor (the owner) was obviously passionate about not only providing shelter, but doing so with integrity. No gimmicky add-ons, and no extra charges for placing the door with a bullet-proof window on the long side of my unit. -Gimme Shelter is the ONLY co. that includes a 20 yr. transferrable warranty for full replacement of any shelter that is damaged by a storm/tornado. -Due to the fact that it is now "off-season", installation could be scheduled within the week. -After determining placement in my garage and measuring for fit, Taylor saw that I would have to move a large shelf and various items to make space for the shelter. He rolled up his sleeves (in 100 degree temps) and helped me move everything (even taking several items to the attic). YES, this is a lengthy review, but it was an important decision. I cannot express the relief that comes with knowing that I no longer need to crouch in a closet, hoping for the best. I HAVE the best!

The team over at Texas tornado was extremely helpful. In explaining our options and installation process we were confident in our purchase. There was a bit of a back up due to increased orders due to demand after the OK storms - but our sales rep was great in keeping us in the loop. Installation was thorough and the process was explained to us. Flashing had to be removed to get unit in garage but the crews advised us - fixed all back in original shape. They took the time to review the unit with us and ensure we were happy with the unit.

Purchasing a tornado shelter after many many years of research with Texas Tornado was the best decision. Sandy and Tay Kuykendall had all of the correct answered all my questions. Straight talk with honest answers. Their knowledge of products and services was refreshing. Prompt, efficient and caring and honest. Thank you!!

Guys were on time and they were in and out in a few hours. Cleaned up after they installed and showed me how the lights and locks worked. I was pleased that this shelter can be customized to any room in the house but since my budget was limited and I couldn't afford a customized shelter I decided to go with the affordable pre-sized one. Trust me I looked everywhere and compared pricing and must say I did not find a better product at a better price. The owner was great to work with too - very personable. HIGHLY recommend this business if you are considering a tornado shelter ... you need to check this out. 100% pleased.

American Tornado Master

I had initially planned an in-ground garage floor storm shelter, and received two bids, one from American Tornado Master Inc. and another from a North Texas based smaller company that specializes specifically in garage floor storm shelters. I then decided instead to purchase an above ground safe room, as I had the ideal location for one. I then received bids from the same two companies, and chose the cheaper bid from the smaller company. This was a huge mistake. The other small North Texas based company required a down payment of 50%, which is common. The small North Texas based company took my money, and I have had to take legal action to recover the money that I put down. After my experience with the other small North Texas based company, I then called American Tornado Master Inc., and this is where everything went right. The product was more expensive; however, short of having saved my family’s life in a storm (which is a test that I hope to not experience), the safe room is of top quality. The company delivered the product when they said it would arrive, and the installation was done with care and precision. The installers took their time and made sure that the job was done correctly. The safe room’s powder coating even gives it a good appearance. The room comes with three deadbolt locks and two steel interior door braces, making the room impenetrable from the outside. The construction of this safe room is better than what I have seen elsewhere, and the sales pitch about the quality of the product is the real deal in my opinion. American Tornado Master Inc. delivered me a quality product, great service and piece of mind knowing that I have the best constructed safe room available. As for price, the sales professional made it clear that other safe rooms are less expensive, and sold the quality of the product. That initially did not impress me; however, I now believe in the quality of the product. Other companies may claim to sell an equal quality product at a lower price. I would very much recommend that a purchaser of a steel safe room consider this claim with some skepticism and do some research. For this reason, I am giving an “A” rating for price, since I do not feel that I really have an “apples to apples” comparison with other products available in my area. I highly recommend American Tornado Master Inc. for steel above ground safe rooms. I would assume that their other products are of the same quality.

In mid-March 2015 I found the Tornado Tough Tornado Shelters website and their products looked good as well as their prices so I called. Tony answered and said that they would need a deposit ($670.00) and that a project manager would contact me within a few days to start get everything rolling and that in a few short weeks we would have our storm shelter completed. I called about a week later and Tony stated that they would actually contact me after the deposit / transaction actually went through and said that they were very busy with orders. On March 30 I saw that the transaction on the deposit hit my bank and also received an email stating that they received my deposit. I responded to the email and asked when I would be contacted. A few days later, I sent another email since I did not get a response. On April 8 I called Tony, he again said they were so busy and that someone would get in contact with me. Waited - called and left Tony a voicemail - no response. Sent emails, no response...and repeat. Fast Forward to Friday, 05/01 04:09p INCOMI CL 479-366-0481 - Tony called - I told him I want my deposit refunded immediately. Tony said "but your unit is schedule to be installed the week of May 12". Really - they are just going to magically drop it in without any prework, planning, etc??? I told Tony that we were not even in town that day and to refund my money. Tony said he would get someone on it - sure you will Tony, sure you will. The next day, while on the phone with my daughter a truck pulls up to your gate (kind you need a remote control to open - has the hydrolic rod) and he yelled that he was here to mark utilities to install our shelter. Yelled back and said we cancelled that - this 'man' proceeded to push through our closed gate. I started yelling get out, get out, do not come in here - get off my property (Scared my daughter). He proceeds to walk up the drive, through the breezeway and up to my door and said he had to mark for utilities. All the while I am yelling at him to get out and trying to hold the door because my dogs are trying to push their way through the door (I know, in hindsight I should have done something a little different). My yelling and the dogs barking got my husband?s attention from the back of our property and he ran up as the guy now pulled on the gate to let himself out. I believe the company name on the side of the truck was NSIS. We had to pay the fence guy to come out and fix our front gate because apparently they are not made to forcibly push / pull on them. It would not close all the way and we need the fence to keep our dogs in and other animals out. Now here we are, June 05, 2015, no refund, zero communication and looks like I will be contacting an attorney. I would stay as far as possible away from this company.

The work he does is excellent and I have never been disappointed in his work. He is very creative and makes sure to use all of the materials before throwing any out. He built a shed for me as well that I would use as a tornado shelter it is so sturdy. He has had a lifetime in construction and is very knowledgable. He takes his time with the work but makes sure that it is done to best of his ability and always makes sure the work is done right. Overall a great experience!

We can?t say enough good things about Sandy Kuykendall and Texas Tornado Safe Rooms. When we decided to look for someone to install a tornado safe room in our home we did a great deal of on-line research and decided that we only wanted someone certified by NSSA who had shelters that have been tested to FEMA standards to withstand an F5 tornado (why spend the money on something not certified?). The first company we met with wanted over $13,000 for their above-ground steel shelter. We then met with Sandy who offers the NSSA certified Jim Giles safe room (almost identical to the other company?s shelter) at less than half the price?fully installed. Sandy has been wonderful throughout the entire process, visiting our home to discuss installation options, working with us on the contract to meet our needs, meeting us at her showroom to show us two steel shelters, and always staying in touch about our order. Her installation crew was excellent, taking extra time to slowly work the shelter into our low clearance garage to avoid damage, and ensuring that there was no damage to the garage floor rebar and post-tension cables. All around a top notch, friendly, highly professional company that has found an affordable way to make tornado shelters available to the Dallas-Ft Worth area. We highly recommend Texas Tornado without any reservations.

Made an appointment with Texas Tornado. Sandra and Tay Kuykendall came to my home, they answered all my questions and we looked at locations in my garage for the safe room. Sandra explained due to demand there was a 4-5 week waiting list which was not a problem. Shelter arrived in 3 weeks, ahead of schedule. Tommy and Tay arrived at my house on a very hot Saturday afternoon to do the install. Install took about two hours and went very smoothly. The guys are great, very clean install. This shelter is very well made and is a very secure. I highly recommend Sandra and her crew, a great experience all round.

It was a pleasure to work with Sandra Kuykendall of Texas Tornado. She came to our home to discuss our options and answered every question we had. As the installation date was approaching, we needed to ask for a change in the date because of an unforeseen commitment. Sandra had no problem with our request and worked around our schedule. It is apparent Sandra is knowledgeable on the products and really cares about her customers. The installation was done by a crew led by her son and it went very well. They took extra care to fit the safe room into the exact spot we requested and left our garage as clean as when they arrived. Moving those safe rooms around is not easy, but they did it professionally and carefully. We had to ask for a service call a few days later to take care of a very minor issue with the safe room interior light, and they arrived on the day that we requested and took care of it. I found Texas Tornado on Angie's list and appreciated the discount they offered. I would definitely do business with Texas Tornado again.

Project went very well. Salesperson showed up at the appointed time, inspected the garage where the safe room was desired and then provided a quote. We were calendared for an installation and they actually moved the install date up by a week or so. On the start of installation they did a tremendous job of protecting the garage by hanging plastic around the perimeter of the garage. They saw-cut the concrete, jack-hammered the concrete out, and dug the hole. The second day they set the box and poured the dri-crete. They came back the third day to remove the dirt removed from the hole and clean up the box. The carpeted the steps and the bottom of the inside of the box. Great project and they exceeded our expectations.

Sadly, our experience was horrible. Right from the beginning. They showed up late to the appointment. Attempted to reschedule 30 minutes before the initial appointment. We had to juggle our schedules in order to make it work. They were nice enough to give us a discount. After ordering the shelter, and being told we were doing it right by ordering early, they said we should have our shelter in 2-3 weeks. They told us our shelter should be here 2 weeks ago. It didn't arrive. No call. No update. No contact. We called they said it should be this week. Nothing. We waited a week and texted the owner. No one called us back. We are now working with the credit card company to dispute the charges. The sad thing? We don't have access to our money for 45 days. Right in the middle of tornado season. We have 4 kids and were hoping to be able to have a shelter installed by this Spring. A real bummer.

Business Description: According to "D" Magazine.... regarding the trend of including basements in new home construction.... "...The first thing most transplants ask when house hunting in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area is, why are there no basements? The excuses: shifting clay soil, too much water, too many critters, etc.......... It's all old hat." "You can have great basements in Dallas", a custom builder was quoted as saying. In fact, high-end builders report hearing more requests for basements from area buyers. And several of the builders have begun constructing them as well... There are basically two kinds of basements: • A full basement has full height concrete walls and is totally subterranean. • A daylight or walkout basement is created on a sloping lot or hillsides and can accentuate beautiful views or the exquisite beautiful terrain of a lot. The most common reasons for considering a basement are the benefits of added space, which is more cost effective, economical and energy efficient. Basements are durable and environmentally friendly. Basements can provide a safe haven from tornados and wind storms. There are many more reasons and benefits of including this value added option, a basement, to your home the next time you decide to build. And we will be glad to discuss those with you. North Texas Basements operates as a full-service formwork contractor with expertise in basement construction, pan forming, columns, vertical walls, retainer walls, etc. Since 1983, we have served the construction industry throughout Ohio and for the last 3 years in Texas, specifically North Texas. Recent Review: After having received a rebate offer from the North Texas Council of Governments, we decided to have an underground tornado shelter installed at our home in Plano. We researched the different types of shelters available, and settled on the concrete type. We were attracted to Texas Tornado Storm Shelters in McKinney due to their sale price on a 6'x8' shelter. Texas Tornado Storm Shelters is a division of Septic Solutions of McKinney. When Chris came out to do the measurements to make sure the shelter would fit on our small lot, we discovered that it would not. We then opted for the 5'x7' flat top shelter, and in hindsight we are glad to have chosen this shelter even though it is more expensive than the larger shelter due to the fact that it is installed deeper underground and the top is basically flush with ground level. A permit is required to install a shelter in Plano, and Chris spent countless hours preparing the papers which helped us obtain the necessary permit and HOA approval. After a couple of false starts due to a delivery problem and the weather, we now have our shelter installed. Chris is amazing with his Bobcat machinery which has multiple attachments, including a high powered jack hammer which was needed when he hit rock a few feet down. The installation went smoothly, and we were all amazed at how the shelter was shoehorned into our small area. There was no room for error, and none was made. Tiffany, the office manager was extremely helpful throughout the process as well. I know that many other companies would have dropped our project because it was too difficult and time consuming, but Texas Tornado Storm Shelters stuck with us, and we couldn't be happier with our shelter. I am confident that they bring this same work ethic and professionalism to their Septic Solutions business as well.
