Cincinnati Sod Installation Companies

It was 2 weeks before Mr. Ward returned my phone call and came out for an estimate. When I met him at my house, the first thing he tried to do was sell me lawn maintenance services. After I received the quote, I requested that he write the contract so he could perform the work. That was the last I heard from him.

Chose this company because they had a sod company as part of their group and did a lot of this work. They had all the equipment needed to do the job well and the actual installation was satisfactory. The problem with this company is poor communication. They didn't always return phone calls. The process was supposed to take 7-10 days, but it took about a month because of the weather. They did not notify me when)they applied herbicide to the lawn. They did not make sure someone would be home after the sod was installed (it is important because the sod needs to be watered frequently). I still think it is good to have sod installed by a sod company, but I am not sure I would use them for other work.

In November, 2018, we hired YE to grade, sod, and landscape our yard after the installation of a swimming pool. The grading resulted in water pooling in our yard so the team came back and installed a catch basin and drain. At one point in our yard, the drain was merely placed on top of the ground instead of being buried. Once the sod on the drain died and the drain pipe came through, Barrett refused to return my calls or text. Additionally, I spent a month trying to get Barrett to return my calls and texts because one of my trees were dying. Since we were in the first year, I expected this tree to be warranted. When Barrett wouldn’t return my calls or text messages, I asked my wife to call from her phone. When he returned her call, Barrett told my wife he wouldn’t warranty the tree since I didn’t try contacting him. When she told him I have the text messages showing I have tried contacting him he informed her that’s not his problem. She explained we were going to share our experience with others he said “please do”. His website says you’re not just another account but our top priority. They were great to work with when things were going well but they’ve been terrible with follow through and standing behind their work.

We had a very positive experience from the initial consultation and design all the way through to the finished work. JR was extremely responsive to our needs and concerns, and he consulted for feedback every step of the way. His crew was extremely punctual, neat and considerate (and fast) in completing the work.

They came out and gave me an estimate and then laid out the sod. The lawn looked good but a few areas did have some brown around the edges. A few weeks later it rained and the yard turned into a pond. I called the service provider and told them to come back because the sod was submerged. The owner came out and told me that I had drainage problems but I didn’t until the sod was installed. He told me that he would send someone out but two weeks later they still had not. I finally got them to come out and reseed the lawn but they did not seed the whole lawn and he wanted to charge me an extra $100. He even admitted they did not level the yard the first time but they would fix everything yet they still have not fixed anything. Now they green mesh that was under the sod it sticking up out of the ground. It is everywhere and is a hazard to my dogs and my grandkids. I had another landscaper come out and look at the year and he could not believe what this company did. I would really like my money back since they messed up my entire yard.

The worker(s) themselves were fine and hard working, but it was the owner that was the major impediment to a successful outcome to this job and my resulting dissatisfaction. In my view, he was completely unprofessional! My experience with this company had countless problems. Some of these were: The owner who bidded on and was to supervise the job not responding to phone calls in a timely manner, not overseeing the work being done, not submitting written bidding for some of the work for approval, not giving accurate instructions to workers on the job, and not responding to multiple calls in a timely manner. All of these and more ultimately led to the job being incomplete, plants that I had purchased for planting by this company to become dead, their yard equipment damaging grass areas and them not repairing it, inconsistent attendance to the job site for work which resulted in many days of no work being done. In addition, they did work in some areas not authorized and without a proper written bid or acceptance. Bottom line and through legal council, I settled this dispute, but I will never ever do business with them again. I'm hoping this report of my bad experience will spare someone else from having to deal with this company and its very poor service.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about John and his crew at Our Land Organics. I was looking for an organic landscaping company to come in and install a raised bed vegetable garden. John was very responsive to multiple design changes (thanks to an HOA) in the planning stage. The job was scheduled very soon after the plans were finalized. He and his crew showed up on time and worked harder than just about any contractor I have ever hired. In 3 days they cleared sod, installed a picket fence, installed 4x4 cedar raised beds and filled in the beds and surrounding flower planting areas with soil. Their pricing was very competitive and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them (and already have multiple times).

Scheduling the initial meeting was not bad, but did take a bit of follow up. Once we met they looked at the yard and made recommendations on how much sod we would need. I asked if they would measure and they just paced it off and suggested we would need 2 of the deals plus some extra. I understood that we would need more sod than the one deal would provide but without proper measurement you can't be sure how much more you need. Later my wife and I measured the yard and figured out we didn't need the extra beyond the second deal and would actually have leftover from the second deal purchase. I also had to remind them that deal included tilling, which they made sound like was a mistake on the deal, but included it in the end. It then took several weeks to schedule them to actually put the sod down. We did have some work to finish up in the yard before they could come out, but we had that done 2 weeks later and it still took near a month (and 2-3 phone calls) for them to come out. Once they came out the workers were professional and tilled up the yard then laid the sod per the stakes we had set out. They had delivered two pallets of sod and we didn't use all of it so they left a bit of the extra at the side of the house. Something that seemed kinda strange was they loaded a bunch of it back onto their truck. Now I am not sure if it is normal for sod companies to deliver more than someone ordered or what, but it seemed weird to me. If I paid for it I should keep the product right? I don't know exactly how much they took back or exactly how much they left and i didn't make a fuss about it, because i really wasn't sure what I would have done with most of it anyway. I probably could have tilled up the front or side yard and had that done, but if that sod was part of the deal I purchased and there was that much extra and the deal included tilling, shouldn't have they asked if I had another area of yard that it could be installed to?) Either way the backyard looks great now and the grass is doing well. It is thinning in some spots, but I think that is more of a shade/drainage issue with yard that I am working on, not the grass itself.

Let me start out by saying that I have had difficulty growing grass in my yard. I had sod initially put down and due to the extreme heat in 2012 regardless of how much i watered sod in a significant area of my side yard did not take and some in my backyard. Erik and Laura came over to view and gave me a verbal price of 600.00 to clean, drop some new topsoil and see these area. This was done mid of October. In hindsight I should not have had them do this this late in season, but was told even if it got cold the seed would come up in the spring. When Laura completed the job I got a bill near 1200. which was double the price quoted initially by Erik and I was told that they put in much more hours than the initial estimate. While I did pay the bill, I was so not happy with this and should have insisted that they stand with their initial estimate, but I always want to err on the side of extreme fairness. Laura did work hard to get the yard seeded but again not double the amount in my opinion. By mid of April of 2013 none of the fall seed was coming up and Laura came back and scratched up the ground surface and re-seeded. She ran out of seed and I provided her with new seed I had purchased a few days prior. (It should also be noted that the while there was work being done as relates to seeding I was always out side assisting with raking or scratching up the soil in both October and April) Well you would think with all the seed that was laid down I would have a lush yard by now and it is far from this. The side yard has done the best out of all area in the yard, but it has not fully taken and I have over seeded that area about 2 weeks ago. The back yard there is an area that is 11 x 13 that has totally not taken and then a few area that are 10 x 2 that did not take. Laura did call a few times since the April re-seed and I told her that it was slow going and during our last call I asked her to come over and take a look at the area because I wanted a plan to fix what had not taken. I even sent her pictures. She told me that they would get back to me and she and Erik would be out the following week. Mid of last week I sent her a text her because I had not had any response to the pictures I sent and I wanted to know when would be coming. I heard absolutely nothing from her. Yesterday I sent her another text saying I appreciated their service but I had resolved my issues and would no longer be needing their services going forward. (Please note that my resolution as to hire another contractor and he will be laying sod in the areas that did not take.) I am very dishearten by Laura and Erik's lack of consideration to my needs. Please not that I offered use of any of my tools when they were here to work in my yard. Lawn mowers, Leaf blower/sucker, my snow thrower even giving to Laura to use on one of her other customer jobs. If you need general yard maintainence then Lawn Pros in my opinion does a good job, but hiring them for anything other than I would not recommend!
