I thought that I was going to have to replace the valve, so I went to home depot and purchased a new one. When Jon arrived, he said that he could fix the one that we had, which saved me a lot of money.

OneStop Pro Plumbing Heating Cooling & Electric
5.0
I needed to find someone who could do both plumbing and cut an access through lathe and plaster. As their name implies, One Stop could do both jobs, and very well. I was worried that cutting through my wall might introduce cracking, but that wasn’t the case. The cut was clean and very professional looking. Overall a great job. Later on we discovered we had no hot water since they forgot to turn our hot water heater back on. That took me a while to figure out how to relight it. Also, they said that they were not Angie’s list members anymore and were surprised that there are coupons here. I did end up getting a $25 senior discount, which was not the 10% senior discount ($67) mentioned here.

DTG Services, LLC
5.0
Daniel responded quickly and showed up next day to inspect - critical since our shower was leaking through the first floor ceiling. He quickly identified and addressed the issue. The work done was outstanding - he even managed to salvage the tiles that he had to pull away from the wall. Daniel took the time to ensure the leak was addressed by testing thoroughly. The level of cleanliness deserves a special mention. He cut out a damage portion of the ceiling by hand to minimize the dust flying everywhere. After job was complete, he took extra time to clean up - so meticulously that there was barely even a trace of any work being done - amazing for a job that created quite a bit of debris. Daniel is highly knowledgeable in various home repairs - I would highly recommend him for your next job. You will get it done right, his pricing is very reasonable, you will get an honest opinion, and he won't leave your home completely trashed, like some other contractors tend to do.

John O'Connell Plumbing Inc
5.0
We weren't getting hot water in the upstairs shower. On John's first visit, he examined the problem and gave me two additional solutions in case replacing the cartridge wouldn't work. He gave an estimate for each of the solutions and allowed me time to think it over. I contacted him a few days later to come back to do the work. He was available right away and had hot water flowing within 20 minutes. As it turned out, it was the cartridge after all and therefore the least expensive of the solutions. John was very prompt, super friendly and professional. It was like having your favorite uncle come over to fix your plumbing. When I saw that John was featured in the super service spotlight in the November 2011 toilet issue of the Magazine, I couldn't think of anyone who deserved it more.

Mike's Plumbing
5.0
Mike did and excellent job. What seemed like a simple job (replacing a valve) turned out to be challenging because the plumbing supply store provided a replacement part which did not work properly. Mike had to search for another supplier, which could not be done in the same day. Mike was very good about communicating the status with me while I was waiting. The day after his initial trip to my house he called me and told me when he would be back. He came back when he said with an assistant and finished the job. I was prepared for a large bill because of the extended time to find the right part, but the cost was very reasonable for the amount of time the job took. Mike is very good at communication and treated my fairly. I highly recommend him.

Clearview Plumbing & Sewer, Inc
5.0
Clearview was chosen because it is the firm usually used for the Condo's common element plumbing issues. The plumber, Mark, responded in a timely manner, worked efficiently and cooperatively in replacing the shower valve - which was behind a wall and difficult to reach. Work performed at house in Oak Park There were two other excellent experiences with this firm - the work was done to common elements accessible through my condo. The first, in about February 2012, was clearing a drain-line from the 3rd floor. Clearview was responsive, efficient and the work was completed quickly. The most recent, in October 2012, was repair of a leaking water pipe under the old concrete bathroom floor that was leaking into the downstairs unit. The concrete floor had to be opened, the source of the leak found and repaired. Work was performed efficiently and as agreed to

Goode Plumbing
5.0
MIke Goode himself did the work because it was tricky. I appreciated that right off the bat. We had hoped the repair would be more minimal, but once in the wall Mike felt strongly that a total rebuild would be the best option and the fix would last longest. Although I had hoped to pay a couple hundred less, the materials simply cost more Mike gave me the at-cost price for materials (no mark-up) and he effectively eliminated his labor charge, or cut it significantly. I appreciated that. I would hire them again.

Garrity Plumbing Inc
5.0
Found Garrity on Angie's List. They came out to the house at exactly the time they said they would. The plumber was friendly and professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly, ran out to get the necessary part and returned to install the part all in under half an hour. I was concerned that the job might be made more difficult because the shower hardware was made by a boutique manufacture and not a big name. The plumber recognized the compatible parts right away though. Job was completed quickly and the problem was solved. These guys will be on my list for future projects.

I purchased a coupon for $100 of plumbing service for $50 to fix a slow dripping of water from a shower head. Communication and scheduling were prompt and they arrived as promised. The work was completed professionally. When they arrived and looked at what was required I was told the cost would be $275.00 but with the coupon it would be $175.00 with a 30-day warranty. The option was to replace the entire valve which would be a lot more and require cutting into the wall behind the valve. The $175 price to replace the cartridge seemed high but the alternative was less attractive and I didn't know what the cost of the cartridge was.. From the time the plumber arrived until he left was 1.5 hours. After he finished I checked at Lowes and the cartridge retails for $40.00. If I subtract the price of the part at retail it leaves $235 for labor at their normal price or $185 for labor because I purchased the coupon. For 1.5 hours that is $156 per hour that I got for $123 per hour. Really disappointed in this hourly rate and this whole Angie's List Coupon thing. I guess I learned a lesson about buying a discount coupon for an unknown amount of service. You never know the starting point for the discount until it's too late. Lesson learned. Hope someone else benefits from my experience.

Recent Review: Jan fit us in at the earliest time we were mutually available and was right on time. He was a consummate professional upon arrival and during the process. He was clear and concise in listening to my perception of the problem and explaining his perspective. I happened to have the part that needed to be installed, but could not get the old out to do the install myself. He asked that I send photos of the situation, and I noticed he had brought an entire replacement valve assembly with him "just in case". This is a unique commercial shower valve that had been installed by the previous owners. He explained what he accomplished and how when the job was complete and also left us with thoughts on what to think about changing in the future should we endeavor on a larger shower remodel. I thought the hourly price was a little high, but considering the job was knocked out in one visit and really clean, I'm ok with that. I've used less expensive plumbers before, but can easily say the work was not as professional and concise as Jan/ Vanguard.

Recent Review: We contacted J&S plumbing via the telephone number provided on angie's list. They had someone out within 2 hours since we told them it wasnt an emergency. He was able to get the brass coupling off and only charged us for the service call because we already had the part and he had to examine it anyway. We also recieved an Angie's list discount. The shower was fixed and we couldnt be happier. We will use them again!
