Reviews in Chicago to Prepare Building Site

RB Plumbing & Sewer Inc
Everything went as smoothly as possible. They got here on time, did the work, talked to the inspector, cleaned everything up, and gave us a great price.

Their bid price was half of what 5 other companies were wanting to charge. I would recommend them to others.

Quality Excavation was one of the subcontractors working on our new home. It's a typical Chicago lot with a tight fit coming in, a fence on one side and home on another, so they had to work in limited space to manuveur. The excavation and removal of the earth was well coordinated and the entire excavation/removal was completed in less than a day. Charlie handled the shovel like an extension of his hand, and it was nice to watch him work. I would definitely consider Quality Excavation for any future work and I do recommend them to others as well.

BGR Construction Inc
I would not hire this contractor again. This contractor gave us a bid based on plans provided by us. The plans called for 6 piers with footings to be placed below the frost line, and a foundation wall with footings below the frost line. The contractor completed the walls per the plan, but did not dig the piers per the plan. My husband and I spent about 8 hours arguing our point with the building inspector and BGR, before he finally agreed to remove the footings that he poured just about 23" below grade, and replace them with piers poured per the plans. Then when it came time to pour the slab, the contractor did not perform that task per the plans either. The end result is that although the completed project is adequate to carry the weight of the structure we are building, it is not far enough above the finished grade, and we are regrading our yard to be able to have the wood parts of our structure 6" above the finished grade. If BGR had poured the slab per the plans, it would be sitting 5" higher that it is, and we would not have to regrade our yard. At this point we are sick of dealing with this contractor and we paid them to get rid of them.

Tmw Enterprises Paving & Maintenance
I highly recommend TMW with no reservations! Prompt, professional and knowledgeable. Our driveway was particularly tricky, with terrible pitch leading to our house and a growing sink hole. Ty and his team were able to address all of these issues - at a competitive rate - and we are extremely pleased with the result.

Steve Vogel Services Inc
Came out and explained better options saving me money. He and his team worked with me on options as the job progressed to make the best layout. After the garage area was done asked about trails and was happy to help. I walked the woods as he blazed new trails. My kids and wife love them. Needless to say we are very happy. Some may think it is costly but in this case to truly get what you pay for and more with the one on one interaction making for the best outcome.

Valdez Concrete Contractors Inc
He was good. They did a very good job on the basement stair well. I would recommend them because of their quality and price.

Done Demolition and Disposal Company
Excellent communication up front. Team arrived ahead of schedule. A back breaking job that would have taken me 2 days, to complete, they were done with in 4 hours. Double jack hammers made quick work of the slab, and the rest was moving materials upstairs and into the dump truck. They left a clean space, with a clean cavity that my plumber can work in. Luke, the owner, has a deep understanding of all elements of home building, and gave me some advice to ensure proper back fill and how to finish the cement once pipes are laid. Trust me, you do not want to do this yourself...small price to pay for a professional, worry-free, and properly executed job that is better than what the actual plumber would do.

The Scottish Plumber
I highly recommend my team from the Scottish Plumber. We purchased an older home (built in 1929) less than a year ago and recently discovered that a section of our sewer line had shifted and collapsed under the driveway, along the foundation wall. After obtaining quotes for excavation & repair from 5 different companies, I chose to go with the Scottish Plumber for two main reasons: 1) I was very impressed with the installation manager, Mike D.’s, assessment and recommendations. He was the only plumber who showed an interest in the holistic picture of my sewer lines. For example, when I asked him about installing a check-valve, unlike the other plumbers, he did not simply agree and add this to the invoice. Instead he educated me about check valves and the possibility of flooding your home if the valve is closed – depending on where your sump pump, catch basin, etc is routed. Only after investigating all of the inlets into our sewer lines did he determine this was a viable option for our home. 2) Since the sewer line had completely collapsed, we were unable to assess the condition of the sewer beyond the break to the street. While the known break required excavation, I wanted to be working with a company that had the ability to do stents and trenchless repairs in case we found more necessary repairs. Good thing – because we did. Mike was professional, thorough, considerate and very astute. During the original quote, he expressed an interest/concern in the sewer lines under the house due to the presence of an old boozy valve and a floor drain that the prior owners had filled with concrete. Sure enough, as the project continued we discovered the boozy valve was rusted out and pipe had slipped several inches, allowing water to seep under the basement concrete slab. This issue within the house was beyond the abilities of a trenchless repair and we elected to undertake a second excavation/repair in the basement. During this basement excavation, we further found that the cast iron pipe that traversed the basement and exited the foundation wall was cracked and needed stenting. The Scottish Plumber team was able to repair this additional pipe without having to excavate more. While the bad news kept coming, bad news doesn’t seem nearly as bad when you understand what is going on and are confident that the workers there will not only repair it but repair it well. My husband and I were well informed and educated throughout the entire process. The entire crew was excellent (core members: Mike D., Brad, Andy “Mob”, and Matt “Ginger”). Mike D. assessed the situation and determined the best solution for our home.He was on site, making the repairs himself in the driveway. The excavation team (Matt “Ginger” and Martin) worked hard in 90+ degree temps, powering through lunch to make progress on the job. Brad and Andy worked on the new piping under the concrete slab in the basement, hydro-jetted the lines, and installed the stent. They patiently answered all of my many questions, and kept me informed of their progress and timeline for completion. All team members were friendly and treated the project as if it were their own home – paying close attention to every detail. Matt “Ginger” took the lead in clean-up, sweeping and hosing down the driveway every afternoon (even though they were coming back to dirty it again the next day) and mopping several times in the basement once the crew was finished. It was refreshing to work with a team that set expectations that they not only met, but exceeded. As far as cost, the quote for the initial scope of work from Scottish plumber was not the most expensive, nor was it the cheapest quote that I obtained. It was on the higher end but was by far the most comprehensive (repair the break, camera/rod & hydro-jet remaining lines, and patch the asphalt/concrete after repairs were complete), eliminating the need for me to track down additional contractors. When the second break was found, this repair was presented to me as a separate quote, to discuss and decide with my husband. We did not feel pressured or taken advantage of with the additional repairs - which was good, I don't like being told what to do or being treated unfairly. While I hope to never need to work with them again in this same capacity, I highly recommend this group of guys and will happily use them again for other plumbing issues.

U.S. Waterproofing
Overall, the project went very well. They arrived on time and set to work immediately. While the jackhammering was loud and dirty, they did their best to contain the mess and cleaned it up. There was one mix up about whether the inspector would arrive that day and whether they would have to fill the ditch another day, but all turned out well as the inspector was able to fit us in after all. I was surprised to find that they completed the entire project in one day, but they did! The results look good, but we have yet to test it out, as it has not had the hard rains that used to flood our basement. But we have a warranty should there be any problems.

Lopez Concrete & Brick Paving
Saul came on the same day I called to give me an estimate. I had several done and his price was reasonable and more or less in line with the other estimates I had received. I chose Saul because he had the most follow up. After the estimate, he came the following day with the paperwork I would need to get a permit with the city. I didn't ask him for this but he took it upon himself to bring me the paper work. He then offered to take my dad to some of his previous jobs that were similar to what we needed done. He started the job when promised and the entire job took three days to complete. Saul was on site all the time and his men were respectful and professional. They left everything clean on the last day. As of right now I have no complaints and I am very happen with the work. My only concern I had was with the exterior drain that needed to be replaced. My previous drain was much larger. The new one that was placed is small in comparison. However, Saul assured me that the drain used is the correct size per code and that I will not have any issue. I will update my review once our harsh winter has come and gone since I feel as though that will be the real test. Overall, I am pleased with the entire experience. I would hire Saul for future jobs.

Recent Review: I called Roto-Rooter because there was a sewer backup into my house on April 9, 2016. I arranged to have a technician come out to clean out the sewer line. The technician arrived on April 10, 2016, cleaned out the sewer line of debris, and used a video camera to make sure the line was clean and found a section of the sewer pipe that was damaged. The technician provided an estimate for the excavation, removal and replacement of the damaged sewer line and details on what to expect. The technician also provided the information for Roto-Rooter to remove and clean that damaged area from the sewer backup. The lead for the cleanup team arrived on April 10, 2016, took pictures, and arranged for a team to remove the damaged portions of the house and clean the affected area. The cleanup team arrived latter and worked to remove the damaged flooring and completed this task and cleaned the floor on April 11, 2016. The excavation team arrived on April 12, 2016, dug the trench to get to the damaged pipe, removed and replaced the damaged section of sewer pipe, arranged for the city engineer to inspect the work to make sure the work was up to city code, added a new sewer clean out access point, and replaced any dirt that was removed. The excavation team placed pieces of plywood on the ground to protect the ground for when they replaced the dirt. Each person was knowledgeable about to expect and how the process works.

What do customers in Chicago say about Prepare Building Site?

Florim from Landmark Demolition was wonderful. He contacted me right away, came out within 2 days, and hauled away a lot of rock/brick/pavers from my yard. He went out of his way to help me break and remove a very large rock stoop...he got some, but it was too hard and thick for even a jackhammer to get through (he went all the way back to Bollingbrook to get it). He was polite, prompt, and efficient. I would hire again.
