Reviews in Chicago to Pump Installers

RB Plumbing & Sewer Inc
5.0
Unfortunately, I moved into a house with a bunch of plumbing problems. From your perspective, the good news is that I've tried three Angie's List "A" rated plumbers that serve the N. Chicago suburbs (the other two were M.D. Plumbing and AHS Plumbing). R.B. struck me as the best of the three, though of course it may depend on who you get and how complicated the issue is. Tim did my work today: he was polite, spoke English, showed up earlier than scheduled, seemed knowledgeable and experienced to a layperson (he contradicted something M.D. had told me, but his explanation seemed to me more likely/plausible), was patient about explaining my options to me, and did work that M.D. had also given me a quote for at quite a bit lower cost. I may still get a second estimate the next time I need work just to confirm I am getting the best deal, but assuming they stay well-priced, I will use R.B. again and will ask for Tim again. It's hard to tell how good of a job a plumber does until you've lived with it for awhile, and the work was just done today, but tentatively, my impression of today's work was a solid "A".

Garrity Plumbing Inc

10yo automatic submersible sewage / ejector pump was blowing circuit. Garrity replaced the old Zoeller pump with a new one. Called them last night, they were here this morning. Both punctual and patient with my questions. The only head-scratcher is that the serviceman was unable to tell me which model he installed, or provide any associated literature. Based on his thinking that it was a Zoeller model M267, I did a little price comparison online. I was charged $545 for the pump itself, and a couple of hundred bucks in labor. That's about two hundred dollars more than full retail for the pump. Disappointing!

Goode Plumbing
5.0
The plumber sent by Goode, George Makropoulos, arrived in a professional manner, on time, and ready to work. No plumber's crack here! George asked me a few questions about the ejector pump, and I was fuzzy on the details to say the least. My husband and I thought it may still be under warranty. He said he didn't want to "step on any toes", so he waited patiently while I found the info on the old pump and contacted the last company. After a very long time, the lady on the other end of the line discovered it was actually out of warranty and much older than either of us thought. At that point he asked again what I would like to do, gave me an estimate of the cost of replacement, and I gave him the go ahead to replace the pump. While he was replacing the ejector pump, he found that the check valve was stuck open and also in need of replacement. He even took the time to draw a diagram to explain the function of the check valve before replacing it, just to make sure I knew to what I was agreeing. He showed me the new ejector pump before he installed it, pointing out certain things on it. He answered all my questions about the nature of ejector pumps, such as seasonal work loads (most ejector pumps are replaced in the spring!), which part tends to wear out the first, so on and so forth. I'm a theater electrician, so the fiddly tech bits were interesting to me. When he was done, I asked about an Angie's List coupon that my husband knew about. He asked if we had an account, which we do, but because it's in another member of the association's name I didn't know the login info. Long story short, he gave us the discount even though I wasn't able to print out the coupon. Now, I would have gladly recommended him and his company to anyone who needed a plumber already, but that was the icing on the cake! It's always a potentially awkward situation when someone comes to work on your house, but George was extremely friendly and non-intrusive, and even my normally shy toddler had warmed up to him by the time he was finished.

Lifeline Plumbing Heating & Cooling

Same from Lifeline Plumbing is really professional and efficient at his work and gave detailed answers to all my questions. What's really nice is that he spent time giving me maintenance tips after installing the new pump so it can last longer. Really like Sam's work and taking good care of the customer.

PASQUESI PLUMBING
5.0
Our basement bathroom was no longer flushing or draining, late in the day Friday after Thanksgiving. We had house guests. Pasquesi was here in less than an hour, called to make sure someone had arrived, found and fixed the problem and had necessary parts in place. Expensive because of off-hour rate, but great. Later learned my neighbor always uses this same plumber. May have overcharged a bit for time fractions - we paid $310 for 3.5 man-hours. Told us the new pump would be be "about" $260, but it was $345. However, I would use them again.

Fettes Love & Sieben Inc
4.0
The plumber showed up on time, was courteous, professional, put on boot covers prior to entering the apartment, & quickly assessed the problem. So far, so good... 30 minutes later he emerged from the closet with good news & bad. The repair was complete (the good news); he personally took most of the water hit (also, good news); & that other stuff in the closet also got wet (the bad news, especially after further inspection we determined that wet meant soaked or trashed considering that the water sprayed on pillows & comforters, wrapping paper, stuffed animals, etc, was covered with sewage water. Fettes Love & Sieben was responsive after a follow-up phone call & committed to cover the damages or get a claims adjuster to investigate. We assured them that the loss wasn't worth a claim & the company settled up the loss appropriately & timely. Despite the incident, our experience was a good one. We would still use them again in the future.

I found them on Angie's List. I liked that they evaluated my problem and then gave me a written estimate that I could accept or refuse before beginning the work. The plumber was excellent.

ROSELLE PLUMBING
3.0
Work was done efficiently and promptly. However the cost was extremely high. The actual cost of the pump alone could not be quoted but the entire job was over $929. After my senior discount and member discount my bill was a little over $800. I have done some research since then and found that the pump would not have cost more than about $300, so that means the labor alone was over $600. That is extremely high for about 90 minutes of labor. Therefore I would not use this company again for any services.

We spoke with Ruben and he offered to get someone over right away (even though it was Thursday at 4pm!). Will, Ruben's brother, arrived 20 minutes later, carried out the work quickly, and there was no mess! What we liked best is that he quoted us a price for the pump replacement and stuck to it. No extra charges, fees etc. We will definitely use them for all our plumbing needs.

Aleck Plumbing Inc
4.0
I used Angie's List to screen plumbing companies to check for price and availability. Aleck Plumbing did not come in with the lowest estimate but was able to get the job done on the day that I called. I was told that I would have someone at my house between 1 and 2 pm (I called for estimate and availability at 8 am). The plumber actually arrived around 4 pm. My only dislike was that I had to call to find out if they were still going to get the job done today. Getting it done on this particular day was necessary because I had to take the day off to get this repair completed. It would have been nice to get a followup call to let me know they were running behind.

Goode Plumbing

I can always count on Goode to do a great job at a reasonable price. They are my go-to plumbers for my house and my parents house. They communicate very well, show up on time, and diagnose issues quickly. I trust them to do the work at a fair price. If you need plumbing work done, give them a call.

APEX PLUMBING & SEWER COMPANY
3.0
Apex has been in 3 times to our house. First for sewage pump and work was excellent, price was fair. Second was for same pump issues, and it was determined that a check valve was to blame, but that valve had frozen and was freed up by the tech on site. I was charged $197 for the service call, and tech offered to replace valve for $275. I declined, as paying $473 for a simple job seems extreme to me. It was not explained that the service fee would go towards the repair. Of course the valve completely disintegrated late in the evening and needed to be replaced, so I asked Apex back (with a call prior to actually coming out), and asked that we get credited for the previous service charge towards the final repair. The operator said she would have the GM ring me when he was able. This did not happen, and the tech familiar with our environment showed instead. I asked him directly for the service credit, but this was declined by by him however they did offer to do the job for $175, which we begrudgingly accepted. The work is professionally done and the tech (Danny) is prompt and courteous. I am on the fence about using them again or referring Apex, as I have a bad taste over the mis-communication regarding costs and credits. Perhaps most of this should fall on me for not asking more questions before settling on what services to perform or not perform. I would recommend for Apex to very clearly explain all costs and credits as they are related to service fees and work performed. I am well educated and no stranger to using professional service providers. It is unfortunate the miscommunication here has tarnished my opinion of Apex plumbing.

Recent Review: We needed a sump pump installed as ours gave up the ghost. I had actually called our old plumber, who I had found here on Angie's list, but he had moved out of state, so I found myself looking for a new plumber. I saw Excel's ad and gave them a call. I got very courteous service and was scheduled for the next day to come out, which I thought was wonderful! I thought I'd have to wait a few weeks for an appointment, but their being able to come out right away rates really high with me! Max arrived on time and was very friendly and knowledgeable. When I explained what we we looking for, a new sump pump, he quoted me a very reasonable price. I then asked him what the cost would be if he used a new sump pump I had bought previously. He quoted a lower cost since I was providing the pump. I also asked him about a back up sump pump since our basement has two holes for pumps (who knows why). When we moved in, one hole was for the main sump pump and the other hole was for a back up sump pump, but the back up was deader than dead so we got rid of it, and the second hole remained unused by a pump, but empties into the first hole anyway so the water gets pumped out into the sewer by the main pump. Hope that make sense. Old house, weird problems... After discussing the best course of action, Max let us know that we could plug our sump pump into a battery backup and while the electric was running it would function normally, and when the electric went out, the battery would kick in. Pure Genius! Not only did it save me having to get a second pump, it saved me money too! (and I'm on a small budget!) I highly recommend Excel Plumbing and will use them again when I replace my water heater and re-do my bathroom!

Recent Review: VSI is a professional and reliable company. They have helped me out on a couple of occasions in relation to our sump pump and each time I have found them to be knowledgeable, experienced, respectful and trustworthy. The most recent visit was to install a combination primary and battery backup sump pump. They carry the Pro Series PHCC line which is a premium brand with excellent pumping capabilities. The primary pump has a powerful pumping capacity of 3000 GPH at 10ft lift and the battery backup has an equally impressive 2400 GPH at 10ft lift - which is more powerful than many of the primary pumps on the market! I now have complete piece of mind knowing that, not only do I have a more powerful primary pump, I also have a battery backup pump which will activate during power outages or if the primary pump fails or cannot keep up with the volume of water entering the sump pit. Another advantage to this system is that it is much quieter that I hardly hear the sump pump cycle now. So, a big thank you to Anton and David for their knowledge and expertise and for being so patient in answering my many questions about this system and a big thank you to Paul for skillfully installing it. You all make a great team!

Recent Review: We are very happy with everything that they did. They kept us informing of what was going on at all times. The repair was very difficult as the well pump is not readily accessible and the pump had corroded in the line. They worked quickly and efficiently, even through a hard rainfall and heavy mosquitoes. Everything is back to normal now, and we hopefully won't need them for the well pump for another 15-20 years.

Recent Review: Acey showed up on-time, and diagnosed the problem quickly. He offered the option just to replace the defective switch as the pump still works. Even though this is a cheaper option, I chose to replace the ejector pump with a commercial grade pump as the old pump from Home Depot was over 10 years old. Acey set 6 " digital switch on pump to allow bathroom content entry due to low entry line into pit basin, and tested pump equipment to make sure everything is OK. He silicon-sealed the ejector pit cover before he left. The whole experience has been great. No hassles, and would definitely use his service again.
