Reviews in Boston for Window Insulation

Calnan's Energy Systems Inc.
5.0
Our experience with Rob Calnan, Loretta, and his whole team has been excellent - we should have filed four reports because over the past year and a half they have been here four times in our two-apartment home: insulation downstairs apartment, windows upstairs, insulation upstairs, windows downstairs. We had to space the work out for money reasons, and to take advantage of the rebate program. Rob is incredibly personable, and very thorough and knowledgeable about the process of his work. He helped us with the MassSave rebate program (and the potential pitfalls thereof), and Loretta has been so helpful in scheduling and getting paperwork to us. The whole crew was great too - very polite and they turned out some quality work. We are so pleased with the work they have done. The windows open and close perfectly, and afterward the work area was clean as a whistle - Rob really demonstrated his knowledge and they use safe practices of the state remodeling/lead rules, which eased our mind since we have a small child. I can't say enough good things about the whole crew, and we will definitely be having them install the remaining insulation in the attic and basement next year. Highly recommended!

I reached out to Sergio's Renovations several times over the course of almost two months: I called twice, emailed directly twice, and even sent a message via Angie's List based on his strong rating and reviews, but never heard back.

After I had to call them 6 weeks after windows were ordered (they said 5 to 6 weeks), they were 2 weeks behind schedule for install; I had to apply pressure to have install before December. I thought they were expensive; I could have found it cheaper elsewhere. They did do a good job, though.

They did quality workmanship. They were consummate professionals and did an excellent, excellent job. I liked their windows and doors. I went to their showroom and saw the windows ahead of time. There were no hitches. The windows are tight and they work seamlessly. It was a perfect insulation job and they insulated the walls when they put the windows in. They did a wonderful job and they measured to perfection. There is no gapping on the sides and they did a really exceptional job on the installation.

Aladdin Insulation & Home Improvement
5.0
I am so glad we found Aladdin Insulation and Windows through Angie's List. Rob came out to look at our insulation and also give us a price to replace a window and door (which we have opted to wait on). He gave us a thorough run down on what would be included and how the insulation would be blown into the attic. He was able to schedule our service the following week and the technicians were courteous and professional and did not leave behind any type of mess. Best of all, the insulation comes with a lifetime guarantee that transfers to the next home owner if/when we sell!

Bob came and measured the windows and gave me the price. He also measured and gave me a price for insulation and said the windows take about 8 weeks to come in and told me what had to be done. Asked if was OK to have separate appointments for the windows and insulation. A couple of weeks later, they called for an appointment for the insulation and was completed in a couple of hours. They cleaned up, put everything back where it was. The windows took longer than expected to come in from the manufacturer by about two weeks. They took two days as expected to install. Chris and his team were very pleasant, moved curtains, furniture, took down shades and put everything back the way they found it. They vacuumed up in addition to putting down drop cloths. I was very impressed with the care they took in putting everything back in place. Kathy in the office has been a great assistance in helping me with the energy rebates.

We hired Bruin to install replacement windows and insulation in our 1920 colonial. We went through the Mass Save Heat Loan program and the office staff was very helpful in navigating the process and paperwork. The initial visit with the window salesman, Dave, went great. The measurements were done in a timely fashion. The window installation was delayed a bit as they had a large commercial job they were held up on. However, our windows were installed early enough in the season for us to get the benefit of the energy efficiency. The workers who installed the windows did a great job, despite our old home with its quirks and levelling challenges. They replaced some rotted wood in some of the window frames. The insulation crew was terrific as well. We have an old home with soft horsehair plaster walls and they took great care to blow in the insulation without damaging the walls. The crew offered to install our bathroom fan vent in the attic, which we had been meaning to do ourselves but hadn't, at a very reasonable cost. It was great to let them take care of it. A cover for the attic door and some insulation in the basement was not included on the Mass Save paperwork, and Rob made sure it was added without extra cost to us. They did need an additional day beyond their original estimate because some workers were pulled from our job to another. They were able to work with our schedule to finish the last day's work. Both crews arrived on time each day, were very professional and respectful, kept us informed of their progress, and were as clean as they could be given the messy work they had to do. We noticed a difference in the temperature of our home immediately. We recommend them highly and would use them again.

Great! We have a 140-year old Victorian with third floor knee walls, very hard to insulate. Rob and his sons did a thorough job of applying high R-value insulation between the rafters, so we will have a cold roof to prevent ice dams in the future. Also had old casement windows in the basement that were falling apart, and they rebuilt four windows with new frames that look like cabinet work. Reasonable prices, great attitudes -- can't recommend more highly!

Dave and Mike had to take out each and every window from the sash. Caulk the space around the window and also around the wood frame. The insulation in the window part was used old insulation that they had to take out. Then they caulked each window with foam insulation in two places in each window, by taking the whole frame off. Mind you, 7 windows downstairs, slider and bay window. Upstairs 7 windows to caulk. They also put two new dormer windows and insulate the 2 windows in two places and go behind the dormer in the crawl space to insulate behind the dormers. Dave and Mike had to clean up after the builder, John Leahy carpenter and Holden home modernizing. It was a job from h*** plus they had to clean up from three people which was a chore in itself. The boys vacuumed, moved furniture, and took all the trash away. It was a three day job, because of all the short steps and lousy work that was done in the first place. It is not easy cleaning up after shoddy work that you pay good money for. All the windows had cold air coming thru them and being on a hill with a biggg breeze I lost a lot of money in heating this house. Now, the breeze is still very strong and not a curtain or plastic window shield is blowing. I have to learn how to reuse the pellet stove, because the house is now very tight. I would highly recommend Dave and Mike for all my jobs, plus the recommended a person to stain my deck. I would call them for a recommendation, for a person to do the job they do not do.

Recent Review: We recently contracted with Beantown for brand new siding, gutters, and window replacement. From the start, we were assured and confident that Jim was the right guy for the job. Unlike other companies from whom we got a quote, he personally came out and assessed our property (unlike a general salesperson) gave us advice and recommendations based on his knowledge and experience with transparency to pricing and options. Jim was responsive when we emailed him with questions, and was proactive in communicating next steps and expectations. When it came time for start of the work there were no surprises, we knew exactly what was happening and when. The team at Beantown, the crew who worked on our house, was hands down the most professional, courteous, and polite crew. We have two little kids at home and I was extremely appreciative of this. I have worked with many trades professionals and these guys were top notch. They clearly had a system, and worked to get the job done and get it right. The end result is beautiful and we are constantly getting compliments from around the neighborhood. Would highly recommend Beantown if you are considering options for your home.

Recent Review: Contacted McLaughlin for a quote and Bill Sovie from the company arranged to see the job for an estimate. Had to reschedule a couple of times due to weather etc, but when he got to the house he took measurements and let me know the approximate cost. He followed up a couple of days later with a written estimate, and their price was slightly less (but not substantially) than another quote I got. I asked them to get me on the schedule, and was told the office would contact me shortly. Within a day or so the office called and said they had a cancellation and could start the same week. I wasn't ready so I asked them for an alternate date which they had a week later. I scheduled the service, and they showed up when they said they would. The guys that came gave me a rundown on the job, told me I needed to be out of the house for 24 hours. They taped off the outlets, sealed all the windows etc and did a great job prepping the room. I wish they would have vacuumed out the foundation to get the 30 years of debris out, but I ended up doing it while they were prepping the room. They completely filled the bays with closed cell foam and did a great job. I had foam done a few years back with a different company, and MClaughlin's job was WAY better and more professionally done. The pictures I attached is while they were still cleaning up the job. I am super happy with their job and I would definitely hire them on my next foam insulation job.

Recent Review: We use Rottler for routine pest control. During a visit, the technician mentioned that our attic insulation looked a bit shallow. He asked if he could have Rottler's insulation expert contact us to evaluate and determine if more insulation was required. The insulation person, Steve Sides, visited and did a thorough examination of the attic. He determined that additional insulation was needed if we wanted to get to the recommended R49. He provided a quote, which we accepted, then prepared the needed paperwork so we could take advantage of the low cost loan program offered by Laclede Gas. The work was scheduled for a couple of weeks later. The crew showed up on time, completed the job in a professional manner. They put done a covering on the stairs and other places they would be working and cleaned up thoroughly after completing the job. The entire experience was first rate from beginning to end.

Recent Review: The staff were professional and on-time. They have a huge selection and Elizabeth had great suggestions of what would work and was knowledgeable. When it came time for insulation, they came 2 separate occasions. The installers were polite, quick and on time. My only complaint: At installation, we were given a plastic hook piece that can be used to operate one set of blinds. HOWEVER, in order to operate blinds using this piece we had to provide our OWN wooden dowel. I just paid over $5,0000.00 to 3 Day Blinds and they couldn't give me a wooden dowel to operate my binds???????

Recent Review: The owner of Dry Zone, Todd Lutinski, came to inspect our basement after I found them on The List and made an appointment. After viewing my basement and discussing what I hoped to accomplish, Todd made suggestions and talked through their various products & services. He answered all my questions and shortly thereafter provided an estimate. After getting estimates from two other companies, I decided to go with Dry Zone based on the price and the confidence I had in Todd to do exactly what I wanted. Dry Zone was able to put us on their schedule pretty quickly. The job took four days. The first day was spent removing the insulation and taking up the wood and partially concreted floor. The second day they leveled the sloped floor, installed a window, and spray foamed the exposed walls. The third day they painted the spray foam with fire retardant paint and built the framing for the new concrete floor. Our floor was so sloped that even with leveling part of it, we still need four separate levels. The final day they spread the concrete. Todd was there every day working with his team. They were all polite, efficient, and clean. Every night our driveway and basement were cleaned up before they left. I do have two complaints which is why I did not give them all A's. First I told Todd I didn't want my family to sleep in the house after spray foaming and that we could stay somewhere else as long he told me which day so we could make arrangements. He called me the morning of the spray foaming to tell me the were on their way. I was annoyed because I had explicitly told him I needed advanced warning to make arrangements. He then gave me attitude about it and accused me of controlling when he could do stuff. My second issue was the window that was installed. I don't know if its just a cheap window or also poorly installed but the pieces are crooked and don't fit well. Despite these two hick-ups, I do like how it turned out and would recommend Dry Zone to others.

Recent Review: I was very happy with Impresair. The communication with the office was minimal, but the guys that did the job were great. They were very nice, jovial, and polite. They did an excellent job. In addition, Impresair handled all of the permits and inspections. At the end I received the 3rd party report on the job, along with all of the paperwork filed with DEP. They handled everything!

They went beyond our expectations, even repairing items that were not on the original work order and for no cost. They showed up as promised on the project start date, and were prompt for every day of work. What do customers in Boston say about Window Insulation?

We had 29 new construction windows completed by Professional Building Services. They turned out far better than we could have ever expected. Because of the detailed trim work that the crew did, you can hardly tell that they are vinyl windows. They also did a ton of insulation around the outside and inside of the windows, which has been great for holding the heat in our house.
