Cedar shake siding part was OK on the bid but tried to sell me a roofing job which wasn't needed. In their email "I always tell my costumers that the time to replace the roof is when it's leaking or when they don't like the looking. If it is not leaking don't replace it. Your case is different. You are getting a good deal combining siding and Roof. That's why I think you should replace it. You would end up replacing it within a few years anyways. It's all about cost-benefit. I think I provided you a good deal". The good deal was $300 off a $20,000 job. No way.

Vista Home Improvement

I had 2 major jobs done by Vista with mixed results: 1) In early 2015, we sat down with Brian (the owner) and he gave us an estimate on replacing the roof and repairing portions of the cedar shakes on our house that had rotted. The estimate included removing our gutters and then putting the same gutters back up. It also included repairing the frame of an attic window that had started to rot and adding baffles to the attic for venting. The roofing was done in March 2015 and went relatively well other than the fact that the crew chief had forgotten his cell phone and didn't have the contract on him. He pulled down the front gutters and, rather than saving them to put them back up, he trashed them in the dumpster. A different crew came several days later to do the window, shakes, and baffles. Dave, the chief of this second crew, was short baffles and had to go out and find some more even though photos were taken of the attic prior to the job for just this reason. The shakes were done, but one section near the gutters looked awful. I had to call and complain, and the shakes were fixed during the second major job below. Finally, Dave came a different day to replace the gutters that had been thrown out. It quickly became very clear that the crew does not communicate well with whoever it is that draws up the contract/estimate and whatever was discussed during the estimate process is not well communicated to the crew. Lots of back and forth phone calls to get things right. In the end, though, Vista replaced the old gutters with new gutters for free since trashing them was their fault. They also found a replacement attic window for me for free. The roof / gutter / window job ended up lasting for close to a month, and the dumpster was in our driveway for this entire time. Dave was a very friendly crew chief and kept us informed as best he could, but he would have left the cedar shake repair in a condition that was not acceptable. Once we complained and sent pictures, a plan was put in place to fix this. So, the communication was pretty bad, and there were some decent-sized hiccups, but Vista worked hard to make things right in the long-run, and I feel like I got a good deal for (ultimately) pretty good quality. Tough to say whether I would hire them again -- they need to fix this communication issue so jobs go more smoothly. This work cost about $11,000. 2) The second major job was in June 2015, where Vista replaced an entire wall of cedar shakes. This time, Gladimir was the chief and he seemed to be the shake expert. He did a great job and repaired the spots near the gutter where the previous work had been sub-par. We supplied the shakes and painted them before Gladimir and his helper installed them. We were very happy with this job. This work cost about $1300.

Tim Wormer, On Top Roofing?professional, on time with estimates, follow up meetings, work is thorough, reasonably priced and easy to deal with. We decided in late fall to replace a shake roof. Tim provided a rapid quote, brochures, subsequent shingle samples, and discussed all options, noting that he could begin shortly after Thanksgiving. We decided on a thicker shingle to provide a more shake like appearance and also to replace a skylight. With weather permitting his crew completed the project in two long days, with another partial day to complete the chimney, some minor items and clean up. Crews were professional and polite. We had a slight snow, and then the roof was clear, and I noted that there minor debris and coloring on the roof. Called Tim and the next day he sent a crew over to brush off the roof and take another magnetic sweep on the driveway to double sweep for nails. After that there still appeared to be stains, (from chimney dust). Tim said that should wash off, but since he was going to send a crew back in the spring to detail the yard, as with the winter and snow there might be debris that they hadn?t cleaned, he would also address any coloration issues. The good news is that we had a good rain, and the stain washed away. When I told him, although he was already paid for the job, he repeated his plan to have crew back in the spring to make sure the yard detailing was completed, and double check the chimney dust. Nice to deal with a contractor that wants to insure the customer is totally satisfied with his work. I would definitely recommend Tim Wormer and On Top Roofing.

This job went extremely well. Tim Womer (the owner) is a true class act and consummate professional who takes a tremendous amount of pride in his business and workmanship. His crew was great and Tim appeared frequently during the week long job to inspect the work. Our house is 123 years old, and from all estimations, probably had the original cedar shake roof plus 3 additional asphalt layers. His crew stripped all of it, re-decked it with new plywood and laid down a new roof. It was not an easy job. They also arranged a mason to repair our chimney at the same time and they did some additional exterior work while they were there. They even roofed my shed at no extra charge (maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that???) From the very first telephone call and email to Tim, down to the last call, conversation and emails, Tim was courteous, responsive and accommodating. He never seemed like he was in a rush during our on site conversations and always made sure that we were satisfied. I have already referred On Top Roofing to a family member and will continue to send people his way.

emoved two layers of shingles on gambrel style house and installed new roof with GAF quality materials, installed 4 soffit vents and even did an extra favor of touching up the paint on a few cedar shakes near the roofline! The job was done by a professional team of roofers in one day and all debris was picked up and disposed of. I highly recommend Georgoulis Roofing and construction!

SML ROOFING & ROOF REPAIRS
5.0
Overall, we are very pleased with the work SML Roofing did on our home in Swampscott. He has done roofs on a number of projects for Paradise Construction, a well-regarded contractor in town as a subcontractor which speaks well for his reputation. Steve Lamonde, the owner, works on all jobs himself and uses the same crew of 4 or 5 men consistently, so he can maintain the quality of his work. Seeing the same guys on the job throughout the process was comforting to us. His crew was neat and polite, and clearly paid attention to the work they were doing. Every afternoon they cleaned the worksite thoroughly before leaving. He does work slowly and meticulously though, doesn't start early or end late, and doesn't work holidays or weekends, so if you are looking for a quick job, you probably won't be happy with them. The end product is a good one, and we have received a number of complements on the appearance of the house as a result of SML Roofing's efforts.

Bob gave us a fair price of $6,700, but it was too much for our budget, so he worked with me to suggest modifications (e.g., 30 year shingles instead of 40 year). We agreed on $5,900. He came when promised and finished the same day - he had said it might take two. Great clean-up, brought his own dumpster for our rotted cedar shakes. He even patched a corner of the garage - sheathing, facia boards and studs - at no extra charge, though the contract clearly said that we would be charged for same. Very generous and well done. I've used him before, and his work is excellent.

Cal-Vintage Roofing Co Inc

The estimater was thorough and explained everything to my satisfaction. The job was scheduled and workers arrived on time. Everything was done exactly as it was explained to me. Especially liked how estimator took a picture of the driveway and marked where they should put the dumpster, which allowed us to continue using the garage. When finished everything was cleaned up and looked wonderful. I have no construction experience and little understanding of home repair. Cal Vintage treated me with respect, exlained everything, answered my questions throughout the process, and were very professional. I know I could have paid less for the roof, but I liked that Cal Vintage takes financial responsibility for their workers and subcontractors.

Len Gibely Contracting

Gibley was the 3rd contractor I contacted after the first two unprofessionally, I might add, offered to take the job and then never showed/responded. I get if the job is too small, but communicate that to the potential client. The responsiveness and willing to do a number of tasks by Gibley was a godsend. I am giving them a B for responsiveness as I did place a call regarding the roof heater cables which was never returned. We also had to wait a very long time for the work to be scheduled, but I understand this is a busy time for them and this was a half a day job. When the two men showed up they plowed right through the tasks on what was a very humid and hot day. There were a few things which really impressed me: 1) The down spout relocation was done to retain the integrity of our retaining wall. They made a last minute change and then gave me a walk through to confirm I was ok with the change. 2) I wish I had gotten their names, but the bigger of the two workers took the time to go through everything they had done. They had packed up most of their tools and ladders when I recalled a gutter drainage issue which was resulting in the washing out of mulch. He immediately knew the root cause of the problem and they fixed it right on the spot. 3) Lastly, they pointed out other issue which should be remedied. Two oaks trees overhanging the house and displacing shingles. All in all I was extremely pleased with their services and will be using them again.

I called Capital Construction to come out and take a look at a leak in my 92 year old mom's roof. Originally done by a different contractor who was uncooperative about fixing the problem. Frank from CC came out to look at it and said he could fix it but did not want my mom to spend money paying him. He told us to call the original contractor again and insist he fix it. I was very impressed at how polite, professional and honest Frank was. I will call CC again when I need their services.

Our roof was leaking. Fantasia came out promptly and after investigating the issue, found that the seams of our roof in one area had not been properly nailed together where the shingles met. The fix was simple and quick, which was a huge relief!

I was very happy with Certified Roofing. Showed up on time and had a great personality. Took extra care with my roof to make sure I could get a couple more years out of it. In the past with other roofing companies there was always such a heavy sell to replace the roof right away. Certified Roofing did not try to heavy sell it was very refreshing.

Recent Review: We solicited a number of quotes from several companies and selected Talbot based on their commercial roof background. Some of the other quotes were from residential roofers that just didn't seem as professional. In addition, we wanted to use a cedar replacement composite material (Enviroshake) for its 50 year warranty instead of natural cedar where we would be lucky to get 15 years life. We were very pleased with our choice. Once the work was started (it was delayed about a week due to inclement weather), they stayed on task until the job was done (about one week, working over the weekend). The crew was professional and scheduled the roof tear off in sections so the plywood decking was never exposed to the elements. In addition, when rain was forecast for the next day, one workman repaired a section of the old roof to prevent any leaks even though they wound up stripping off those shakes the next day after the rain -- a little extra attention to customer service that wasn't expected. The new roof weathers nicely and as an added benefit sheds snow very easily, reducing ice dam formation. In short, we had a very good experience with Talbot and recommend them without reservation.
