The work was done quickly and efficiently. Michael pulled out the rotted supports of the staircase and rebuilt them so that the staircase was no longer rotting out and leaning to one side. He also replaced the bottom two stairs. I was very happy with the work.

STAY AWAY from the following companies: Boston Stair LLC, Curvoflite Stairs and Millwork Inc, and Boston Stair Design Corp. They are all owned by Mary Mazzeo, and it was our biggest regret to have purchased a 5ft wooden spiral staircase from her, who falsely advertised herself as a manufacturer with 30+ year experience in the business. The stair was contracted to be partially assembled with the center post, all treads, and stringer to be delivered as one piece, but she tried to have us accepting a completely unassembled stair kit a day before the delivery despite the 2-week delay. We later found out that the actual manufacturer, who she ordered the stair from, only sold stair kits, and she has been in business with for over 4 years. Mary Mazzeo knew from the beginning that she had us paid 10K for a 5K stair kit, but she claimed she didn't know. She requested us to have our carpenter finishing what it was on the contract, and she also forced us to hire 6 people to load off from the delivery truck because she told us that the driver would not carry the stair into the house! Before the delivery, Mazzeo sent us a picture of the stair that she hired a guy to assemble, but it showed that the stair was done in a residential garage without even enough headroom to stand the stair up, and the stair was put together laid down sideway. When the stair arrived, it had missing and incorrect size parts, but the worst is that it squeaked like an old stair when walking on. We tried asking the guy she hired to fix the problem, but Mazzeo refused to be responsible for, and we are currently in a progress of suing her and got stuck with a stair that couldn't be walked on! Final words, Mary Mazzeo is a person who is full of lies, irresponsible, lack of knowledge, and the worst sales/dealer we have ever encountered.

Tiago and his team are excellent. Great attention to detail and they've done multiple projects for me. I've also recommended them to friends and family. One of my favourite projects to date was a redesign and remodel in my foyer and main staircase. I had a dangerous older staircase and tiago's team got it out and built beautiful stairs, stained them and repaired a 178 year old railing and spindles that accompanied the original stairs. Repaired plaster cracks on my walls and ceiling and painted. The icing on the cake Was a closet that was added to the right of the staircase where there was nothing before and it came in the form of custom cabinetry. I look forward to working with them again.

Rick did a perfect job from beginning to end - estimate, design, building permit, and construction. Rick was collaborative and thoroughly reliable throughout the project. He made design suggestions to make the new the new stairs compliment the look of the of the house. I could not be more pleased with quality of the finished stairs. I highly recommend Rick for any carpentry project.

Tracey Davis DBA JANS Construction

After a flood damaged carpet on our upstairs and stairway, the carpet was removed and revealed that the stairs, from top to bottom, were too damaged from nails and staples after having been carpeted extensively with all wood surfaces covered by previous home owner. We decided to tear down and remove old stairs and Tracey Davis was referred to us by a flooring company. After helping us to decide on the look of the new stairs including different newel posts, balusters, and handrails, Tracey began demolition of the old stairs and the process of building the new stairs. After each full day Tracey would spend time cleaning up and hiding all his tools and materials because he didn't like leaving a mess, that was the first thing that impressed us; his strong work ethic. As the new stairs began to take shape it was immediately apparent that Tracey is a very skilled carpenter with ample experience to create a custom stair case that fit our home beautifully. Each day was exciting just to see the new pieces he had crafted and installed. The project took twice as long as expected to the wrong balusters being shipped. Upon arrival of the replacement balusters, Tracey worked Saturdays and Sundays to get the job done as quickly as possible. A testament to Tracey's honesty as a craftsman was found in moments when he would point out something he didn't like about a piece he had installed and he intended to replace or rework till it met his high standards. If he hadn't pointed out the "flaws" that his trained eye noticed, I would never have noticed and I consider myself a perfectionist. Upon completion of the stairs we decided to hire Tracey to also paint and polyurethane the new stairs as well as the surrounding upstairs hallway and downstairs landing. Most craftsman seem to excel at one discipline but to my amazement Tracey was as gifted at painting as he was at carpentry. With an amazingly steady hand I watched him paint without using painter's tape or any type of masking device and the results were superior to that of a painter we hired two years earlier for a room remodel. Tracey's forte in carpentry is visible everyday in our new staircase that gets high praise from all who have seen it. We have hired Tracey for other projects and referred him to family and friends who have also had very positive things to say about him and his work.

Kevin was fantastic. The bulkhead stairs had been cut out to move furniture out of the basement. He was very knowledgable and worked with me to create a custom solution for the staircase to accommodate future furniture moves. The entire project was completed in a day and he communicated with me every step of the way. I've already talked with him about doing additional work at the property and would highly recommend him to anyone.

I was really happy with the service. Troy went above and beyond my expectations, offering me a few different potential approaches/materials and recommending which one he would choose (which was actually the less expensive option). He offered a quote (which was much less than I expected) and stuck to it, even though he ended up spending more time than he had initially estimated. The final product looks great, he hauled away the nasty old stair treads, cleaned up afterward, and offered suggestions for caring for them to keep them looking nice. I'm already booking him again for another project, and would definitely recommend.

Catarino Construction

Let me start with a confession: I should have posted this review a long, long time ago, as soon as the work was done - I only wish I was not such a procrastinator. Having said that, my delay in submitting this review is in no way a reflection of my satisfaction with Catarino Construction, not at all. When it was time to implement the small home improvement project, I shopped around and had a few contractors give me an estimate. Catarino Construction was the last one to come take a look, and Kevin's attitude did make a very positive impression. Part of the work was to replace an old metal ramp which was no longer attached to the wall at the top of the stair. Once he saw how it was dangling off the wall, he was genuinely concerned and asked me if there were any children living with me. When I told him no small children are part of the household, he understood but countered that this doesn't make it any less dangerous a condition, and insisted to apply a temporary fix right away. He went out to his truck, got what he needed, came back and secured the ramp, and only then did he look around and estimated what the staircase project would cost me. He never considered charging for the temporary fix, and that personal touch is what won me over, so he got the contract on the spot. Working with Kevin was a pleasure throughout the project, he always stuck to the planned timeline, and made sure he alerted me as soon as he identified any potential delay. His workmanship left nothing to complain about, and he always cleaned up after himself before leaving for the day, so it never felt like a construction site. And when it was all done, I could not be happier with the work he did. When people ask if I know a good carpenter, I do not hesitate to pass on his number.

John is very creative. The new staircase and ceilings he put in are beautiful. He's done a lot of different things for me. He's not real fast, but the quality of work is great. I would recommend him and hire him again in the future.

RALPH MCLAUGHLIN

Mr. McLaughlin carefully examined and designed new cellar stairs for my antique home. He was thorough and meticulous, prompt and courteous. He worked out a plan that helped stabilize the entire staircase and floor in that area and he was extremely conscious of safety factors during construction as well as in the final product. He is an excellent problem solver managing to find a safe way to make the new stairway less steep but maintaining necessary headroom throughout. The new stairway is clean and solidly built. I will definitely call on him again for my next project.

Recent Review: Provider was excellent. Air conditioners are very heavy and did without a hitch prices was right responsiveness was right. I would use them again. He carried them down three flights of stairs and put them in a storage room in our cellar after removing them from our windows. A backbreaking job.

Recent Review: Ken and his team were terrific - very professional, great craftsmanship and attentive to details. They showed up when they said they would, cleaned up after themselves, and were very responsive to questions and issues that developed during the job. The quality of their work was top notch, and they vetted and worked well with other professionals needed to complete the project (e.g. structural engineer, steel beam supplier, specialty carpenter for work on existing doors, landscaper). Ken was also very thoughtful in his approach to ensure necessary town approvals - which was trickier than usual this Summer given the large number of deck failures last winter resulting in transitioning code requirements. I recommend Ken and his team wholeheartedly!

Recent Review: Overall, we're extremely happy with the walls! They look gorgeous and should last longer than we do. We just moved to the house several months before having the walls done and we're looking forward to having them there at least the life of our mortgage :) The masons were extremely professional, working in the summer heat and doing so very efficiently. We were quite surprised how quickly everything came together. There was one point where I thought some of the walls had too much mortar visible and was disappointed by that- we picked Oliver because their walls consistently did not show a lot of mortar. Jeff quickly came over to explain to me that it was only a part of the process. The excess mortar would be cleared away; he was right- everything was set and looks amazing. Getting the walls all set was a fairly seamless process; from quote to getting the work scheduled to final payment. The very last part, adding in the railing on the steps per city code, seemed to drag on forever. We're not sure what happened, but it was difficult to get a hold of our project manager to let us know when the railing would come and when the inspection would be done. The project management on the process was a bit difficult. Overall, we're extremely happy with the walls and would recommend Oliver for masonry work. They are definitely worth the price.
