Reviews in Boston for Baseboard Installation

Wood Is Good
5.0
The dining room turned out beautifully! Rich is meticulous and incredibly detail oriented which is key in a custom woodworking project such as this. He encountered a major issue midway through which was a significant slope in the floor on one of the sides of the dining room. He determined how to fix the baseboard to minimize the visual effect of this slope. You can't even tell that it is there now! He completed the installation of the moulding and we finished the project off with paint. I would highly recommend Rich if you have a project that you want done just right.

Kevin and his team did an awesome job! We couldn't be happier with the experience and the results. They helped us take down an existing drop ceiling in our basement and replace it with bead board. They also made custom floor mouldings for the basement. After frustrating experiences with other contractors, it was refreshing to work with Kevin as he was responsive, honest, friendly, and reasonably priced. They provided quality, custom work and stayed until the job was done. We look forward to contacting him again for future jobs and have recommended them to all of our friends!

Dennis M Howes Carpentry Construction Inc
5.0
We had water damage due to ice dams and needed the drywall replaced in our bathroom and mouldings/trim above our kitchen cabinets. Dennis did an amazing job. His finish carpentry work is beautiful. He had to retrim the window and the baseboads in the bath and also added trim moulding under my new countertop and above the cabinets and it's perfect. Dennis was professional and punctual. His estimate to start and finish the project was spot on. He was meticulous with cleanup. I couldn't tell he was there. Even the subcontractor he brought in to repaint everything in my kitchen and bath was fantastic. I also had him come back to replace two windows on the second floor. Again, the finish carpentry work is flawless and the rooms were clean when he finished. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for carpentry/remodeling projects. I have a few other projects already in mind for him.

Charlie helped us design built-in cabinets/book case unit for living room, floor to ceiling. Then he built, painted and installed. IT WAS AMAZING! Charlie was on-time, and had great ideas. We thought we knew exactly what we wanted and Charlie was happy to oblige but also offered some new ideas based on his experience and expertise that made the whole thing better- he is smart and professional and he really knows his stuff. We are very demanding and Charlie met all our expectations. He matched our existing crown moulding and baseboard moulding and paint perfectly. The finished product was GORGEOUS, exactly how we had hoped, and the price was reasonable. His project I think adds tremendous value to our house. He even gave us an extra baseboard trim in another part of the LR at no charge. There was one small item that was overlooked in the install and Charlie came back within 2 days at our convenience to fix it, no questions asked. We would hire him again in a heartbeat.

He was very responsive and polite, almost to a fault. We needed to have a lot of odds and ends repaired and places to be repainted, especially our front porch. His approach, which we knew from his web site, was to be paid for the hours worked, and not provide an estimate for the entire job. Overall, we were satisfied with his work, with only 2 complaints: we were under time pressure to get a lot of work done, and admittedly didn't give him much notice, but he did promise that our job would be finished by a certain time, which turned out not to be the case. Secondly, the paint job in certain places was messy (drips etc. which I had to clean up) which we suspect was due to his assistant and not being able to supervise him carefully enough. In the end he gave us a discount on our job. Having said all that, the ceiling work turned out well (and he brought in a plaster specialist/friend to help him with this), and the repairs turned out well. He was professional and courteous, and we would use him again. The reasons for not giving him an 'A' for professionalism was due to over-promising and some sloppiness with the paint job.

Crompton Carpentry & Construction, Inc.
5.0
I first worked with Crompton Construction to have new vinyl siding installed, install two new exterior doors, and to have a window moved to another location for a future expansion project. The jobs were completed without issue and I was very impressed with there attention to detail. I then asked Randy to take a look at my basement from a previous contractor that walked off the job and neglected to complete. Randy noticed several code violations and recommended that we start from scratch since there could be other hidden issues. After the demolition was completed, we saw several structural and electrical issues that were not completed to code. Crompton Construction was then contracted to refinish the basement and add a full bathroom. The end result was amazing and my wife and I were extremely happy with the work. And througout the process, Randy always communicated with me on the overall progress of the project. We recently had Crompton Construction install trim work throughout our house (crown and baseboard moulding, custom fluted pilasters for the front entry door, and chair rail) and build us some custom cabinetry in our spare room. Jeff is a master at wood working, and the custom cabinetry he created for us is simply stunning. All work that was completed by Crompton Construction was done to code with all necessary permits. Randy and Jeff Crompton are true professionals. They take great pride in their work and their craftsmanship is outstanding.

LEON VALCOURT & SONS

The experience with Leon Valcourt & Sons was great. Willy rescued a failed bathroom project, started by another contractor, and quickly turned it around to give us the finished bathroom we were looking for. He also did a great job painting the kitchen, living room, and two other rooms. Lastly, he installed a new kitchen floor that looks great. Willy is very helpful with suggestions, easy to reach, and shows up when he says he's going to show up. Overall, a great value and I highly recommend him.

We are doing a minor kitchen renovation in advance of selling our house. The existing doorframes and trim were in poor shape. Rick removed those, and installed all new trim, and even exposed original trim that had been covered over. New baseboard and a plate rail were installed. A new Pex line run to our 2nd floor was enclosed/boxed in as well. Rick was great, again. We've worked with him several times and he does excellent work. The trim work especially is outstanding. We can't recommend him enough. Thanks Rick!!

Removed existing flooring and sub-floor. Because existing subfloor was out of level, he trimmed blocking as needed. Installed new subflooring to ensure that new flooring would be on same level as the existing floor. Installed new hardwood flooring and new bullnose border scotia molding trim. Sanded and finished with stain and applied three coats of polyurethane. Reinstalled existing baseboard and trim, patched wall plaster and to to match.

Recent Review: Overall my experience with Mr. Handyman was positive. I placed an inquiry online on their website, and Marisa responded quickly by phone and we arranged for Joe (the owner) to come assess the jobs on site. Joe was very responsive, friendly and professional. He was easy to communicate with by email and phone to coordinate appointments. My only criticism is that he seemed to forget things (i.e., some parts of the job we discussed did not make it into the estimate; I had to remind him of an item that was on the estimate but which he had forgotten; and then a separate item listed in the estimate was not completed initially). To his credit, when I pointed out what was not completed, he later sent a tech to finish the job at no additional cost.

Recent Review: I can not say enough positives about my experience with RJ Scalzi and Sons. If A+ were an option they would have received one in all the above categories. Matt and his crew were always polite, professional and wanted to be sure that I was pleased with what they did. Matt was very quick to respond to my first call and came the next day to do an estimate of the job. The estimate seemed fair, and I asked him to do the work. When I added more work to the original contract, Matt was pleased to do it. He also tried to keep the costs down as well. Matt always called to let me know when they were coming. They always arrived when they said they would. Matt and his staff were always very responsive to my questions or concerns. The north end of my house finally looks great. A wooden fire escape had been removed several years ago, and the repair job did not look good. The new black shutters are beautiful too. The trim around the windows and doors finally make the three season porch addition look finished. I was very pleased with the completed work and with my experience with Matt and his crew. I highly recommend them without reservation to anyone who needs work to be done by skillful professionals.

Recent Review: Bruin is a great company. This is the second job we've hired them for. The only issue we had was related to the materials they used, NOT them as a company. The storm doors they installed had a known issue with broken open/lock mechanisms. They came out to replace them once, but they've never really worked correctly. Also, our toddler broke through the screen with only a couple of hits - I would have expected higher quality materials from Bruin. Matt is prompt, his workers are professional, and the cost is very reasonable. We will use them again.

Recent Review: Due to challenges at our end, there was a six-month time span between Alan's first visit to look at the kitchen and bedroom on September 16, 2015, and when he began work on the project on March 22, 2016. Consistent with his company's name, Alan showed up right on time back in September of last year to look at the water damage and assess the repair work that needed to be done. He was very personable, and we liked him immediately. He forwarded a quote promptly, just four days later. Since this was our first big home repair project, it turned out that we had a lot to learn. We realized at that point that we needed to figure out whether we wanted to re-mediate the lead paint in the kitchen walls or just ask Alan to contain the lead dust using RRP practices while he worked. We also realized we didn't know if the kitchen and bedroom ceilings were coated with lead paint, because the lead inspector who had assessed our unit some years ago had not tested the ceilings. After bringing in a lead remediation company and the lead inspector, we decided not to re-mediate the lead paint, and learned that the ceilings did not contain lead paint or asbestos, which we were also advised to test for. After all that, we thought we were finally clear on the scope of work. We then asked Alan if he would be willing to change the format of his quote, which was not all inclusive. His quote indicated that some items, such as additional consults to discuss work progress, etc., research in preparation for the project, and materials and the time to purchase them, would be charged depending on actual costs. However, we needed an all-inclusive quote to submit to our insurance company. Alan kindly agreed to prepare an all-inclusive quote for us. I believe he modified the quote at least once more after that first reformatting, as a result of my uncertainty about what our homeowner's insurance appraiser had actually included in the scope of work. Alan was patient with this drawn-out process and quote revisions, which we really appreciated. Another contractor withdrew his proposal towards the end of this process, citing concern about the need for quote modifications. After some additional delay, caused by the need to file a claim with our condo association’s insurance company also, we were finally able to sign a contract with Alan in late January 2016. His first available start date was Monday, March 21st, which was fine with us, since we had some other home repair and renovation projects going on in the meantime. (Alan later offered us an earlier date when another client postponed a project, but ultimately, the 21st ended up being best for him and for us.) When we signed the contract, I let Alan know that I wanted to put together a list of questions for him about how he expected the project to proceed, and about what we should do, and what he would do, to prevent any damage to furnishing, flooring, etc., during the course of the work. Our other home repair and renovation projects had left me a little sadder and wiser about the potential for collateral damage. Alan was completely understanding, and offered to come over before the project started, so that we could discuss my questions in person. We arranged a time in early February. He spent at least an hour discussing the project with me, which I really appreciated. Alan ended up starting on Tuesday, March 22nd, rather than Monday, March 21st, due to a calendar mix-up on his part. This was disappointing, since we had already removed everything possible from the kitchen and taped up the cabinets, and were keen on keeping the disruption to as short a period as possible. However, there was a significant snow storm predicted for our area on March 21st, and ultimately, it did seem wiser to start on Tuesday, since it was unclear what travel conditions would be on Monday. Alan was very responsive too all of our requests during the ongoing work, and we were happy with the end result. There were a few hiccups along the way. Alan asked us what colors we wanted used in the kitchen. We asked him to match the original colors, and were surprised to come home that night to find that the kitchen walls were light green, when they had previously been light blue! Alan mentioned he had used a color fan to try to match the color, and thought he had had a good match. Fortunately, we were fine with the new color, and everyone who has seen it, likes it. He offered to take a chip of paint from the bedroom walls with him when he went to purchase paint for that room. The color he painted the bedroom walls was a good match for the original. On Friday, March 25th, Alan texted me to say, “Kitchen painted except baseboards and near fridge. Two coats on walls and ceiling. Doorways and around window also painted.” We came home that night to find that he had thoughtfully put the bulbs back in the ceiling light fixture sockets. We had been relying on small under counter lights while the ceiling and wall replacement and painting were done. However, when we turned on the overhead lights, we saw that the ceiling had ridges in it in a number of places. Upon closer examination of the whole room the next day, we also saw that the amount of paint had been applied unevenly on some parts of the walls and trim. There were some little gaps where the new dry wall did not meet the trim or baseboard, and some wall paint on the ceiling, and ceiling paint on the walls. There were some sections of doorway trim near the floor that didn’t appear to have been painted. In some places, there were small amounts of wall paint on the trim or trim paint on the wall. The paint lines between the walls and ceiling were not all straight. We were surprised by this, since Alan’s text had implied that the painting in the kitchen was complete, except for the areas he had mentioned. We carefully marked each flaw with a sticky, and went over them all with Alan on Monday morning. Alan mentioned that he had put the bulbs back in the ceiling light sockets right before he left, but hadn’t turned them on. He said that in the natural light of Friday afternoon, the paint job had looked much better. We agreed that the defects were much less visible in natural light. Alan wasn’t happy either with how the kitchen looked in the light of the ceiling bulbs. He acknowledged and fixed each of the flaws we pointed out, and told us we shouldn’t hesitate to let him know if there was anything else that he had missed. I did call him a few days later with some other items, but in that case, he was aware of each one and was already planning to fix it. The quality of the patching and painting work in the bedroom was high, and we did not notice any defects that needed to be corrected. Our final punch list at the end of the project included two chips in the paint on the radiators in the kitchen, which had just been painted the previous month and had been pristine; scratches on the bedroom floor where the bed had been moved (although Alan had used furniture moving coasters, it is likely that there had been some grit on the floor that caused scratches); and scuffs on the kitchen linoleum. Alan brought silver paint and touched up the radiators. He used a special oil on the bedroom floor that made the scratches all but invisible. He cleaned the scuffs on the kitchen floor. Earlier in the project, on his own initiative, he had applied clear caulking between our kitchen counter and the splash-guard, which was badly needed. We appreciated the fact that Alan noticed and took care of this, even though it was not part of the scope of work. He also pointed out that a wall in a little hallway adjacent to our kitchen was badly cracked, and suggested that it would make sense for him to replace the wall and repaint the wall while he was there. He said the additional cost to do the repair would be minor. We agreed. The cost was quite reasonable, and the wall looks so much better now. Alan finished up the work in the bedroom on a Monday. The weekend before that Monday, I had cleaned out the dust and debris out of all of the kitchen cabinets, where it had managed to get in despite the cabinets being taped shut! Some of the dust and debris that I cleaned out of the cabinet above the stove had fallen onto the stove. I fully expected to clean that up later, but when I got home Monday night, Alan had cleaned the stove. A very nice touch that I appreciated. Regarding price, Alan’s was similar to that offered by another reputable contractor from whom we had solicited a proposal. We are pleased with the quality of the final product. We appreciated Alan’s patience in the run-up to signing a contract with him and his responsiveness to each of our requests before and during the project. We also appreciated the extra touches and the excellent cleaning job Alan did after the project was complete. We would (and already have) recommended Alan to others.

He communicated clearly regarding expectations on the scope of the work and timing. He showed up promptly, communicated with us throughout the project on the progress (and some of the nuance of the work, which was appreciated), and exceeded our expectations with both the quality and efficiency. He and Keith kept a tidy workspace and were both very professional. One of the best indicators for us of a job exceptionally done - Is that had we not known what work was performed, we never would know that anything ever needed to be repaired. We are thrilled with the work performed and will most certainly be reaching out to Frank in the future.

What do customers in Boston say about Baseboard Installation?

We were very satisfied. Bob was very responsive. He called back the same day I contacted him. He was very helpful on the phone. Ted was very punctual and did a very good job on the baseboard. The job ended up taking longer than originally stated (estimated at 1 day - spread over several), but that was mostly due to my buying stain that required longer dry time.
