Reviews for Fireplace Repair in Birmingham

Batts' Chimney Services
5.0
Batts was great. They first found a solution to a separated flue liner and repaired it without the necessity of replacing the entire liner. I had had couple of multi-thousand dollar quotes to fix the chimney from others, and they fixed it for $600. Then I needed to replace some old gas logs with a log lighter so I could burn wood. In the process of installing the lighter they discovered a dangerous previous "repair" performed recently by another contractor. Since I wasn't home, they emailed me photos of the problem and explained the danger. They repaired the problem, installed the log lighter, and fixed the masonry on the floor of the firebox resulting from the gas log removal and lighter installation. Late that afternoon after they left we smelled gas in the house. We called the fire department, who shut off the gas and ventilated the house. We also called Batts, who came immediately (from their way out of town). They quickly found a leaky valve, which they had tested for leaks earlier in the day. The fireplace had not been used in years, and the valve failed after they had left. They ordered a new part, came back and installed it at no charge, and everything has worked great ever since.

We called Standard about a month back because we were having some pressure problems and leaking toilets. The technician came out and repaired the pressure problems and added a gas lighter to our fireplace, but he was not in his normal truck and was unable to get the toilets working. The work he did do was great and worth the price, but the toilets working had been our #1 priority. The technician said we could reschedule to have our toilets repaired. The holidays came, and it was mid-January before we were able to reschedule. When we did contact the company about coming back out, the plumbing manager, Mr. Hale, said he would be in our area on the coming Saturday and, if we were available, he could have a look at it then. I thought he was just going to assess the situation and send a technician back that week. Instead, he spent over 4 hours working and getting parts needed (in two different trips), and he did a fantastic job. When I asked for the invoice, he said it was taken care of, and that the company should have been able to fix the problem on their first trip (which was not really the first technician’s fault). Great work and even better service, and I will definitely use this company again.

Clean Sweep Chimney Svc Inc

They found that work I had performed by another company was not up to code, and essentially another company had lied to me about servicing my chimney. Not only did they sweep the chimney and performed the repairs I wanted, but they replaced a chimney cap and broken flue handle (one that the other company said couldn't be fixed). They handle the handle machined for me - and didn't charge me an arm and a leg! They were very efficient, on time, courteous...and they actually came in under the estimate they provided (by $20 or $30, but still...that is unheard of!). These guys are wonderful - best experience I have ever had with a vendor! I will definitely use them again every chance I get!

Patch Adams Roofing and Chimney

The contractor showed up on time and cleaned the chimney, as well as inspected the interior and exterior of the chimney. He found a whole in the chimney that needed to be patched, and recommended we install a flue valve to help with water penetration and heat loss. We agreed to the repairs and he said he would give us a call when he returned to the office. We waited about two weeks but never heard back. Call the office and was told that they had been without a receptionist for about a month, and that was why no one called to set up repairs. The lady on the phone was nice, but said she wasn't at her computer and would have to call me back. We've been wanting to get these repairs done quickly, and have now opted to go elsewhere.

ARC Chimney Sweeps

The people from ARC are wonderful! I could not ask for any nicer prompt, reliable service. They explained everything that needed to be done, showed pictures of the interior of the chimney before and after repair, were very prompt with the service. I highly recommend them if you need something done to your fireplace/chimney!!!

MIDSOUTH PLUMBING

We have a newer home but we thought is was time to have the fireplaces serviced. The technician found a small leak in the one that we would of not known about. It was fixed in less than an hour. We were shocked at how affordable it was. They are just very nice, when you call they come the next day as scheduled. We will use them again to be safe with the gas.

THE MANTEL SHOPPE
5.0
Michael came to install and was very customer driven and very meticulous about his work. The mantel looks good and fits perfect. The price was great. The mantel comes unfinished so you will have to prime and paint it but considering the price it is not a bad deal. We compared prices at large home repair stores and found the price was going to be considerably more expensive to go somewhere else.

Patch Adams Roofing and Chimney
5.0
I was very pleased with the work done at my house by Patch Adams. They came on a routine visit to sweep the chimney, but found problems with the fireplace. The back wall of the porch fireplace was cracked, and the area where the fire box connects to the chimney pipe was rusted all of the way through. The sealer on my outside fireplace chimney had deteriorated and allowed water to seep down around the flue and rust it out. Since it was rusted all the way through, Mike Adams determined that the only safe way to repair it was to replace the fire box. They showed me the damage so I would be clear about the problem. I was very concerned that they would damage the brick façade during the installation of the new box. However that was a needless concern. The mortar did break in a couple of places where it connects to wall, but they were able to match up the mortar. They actually fixed some of the same area that was damaged by 'house settling' several years ago. In addition to installing the new outside firebox and chimney pipe, they also replaced the cracked panel in my inside fireplace. There is a small area on my porch roof where the shingles are not tight so I occasionally get some leakage on my porch when wind blows water under the shingles. They agreed to repair that for me, but it was already dark when they finished the fireplace; so they will return to do that on a different day. Brian and Chris were the two representatives that actually did the work at my house and I found them to be very professional. I did rate everything with an A because I was completely satisfied with everything. Rating on cost was difficult because I don't really know what this type of work should cost. Based on the supplies (firebox, panel, paint, etc.) and the amount of time it took to do the work, it seemed like a fair price. The three different people that I dealt with left me with the impression that they are honest men. I will definitely refer my friends to them when they need fireplace work.

Business Description: Before we start the construction process we will inspect the perimeter of your home. This is to protect or set aside any of your belonging that may get damaged during the work process. This includes lawn furniture, flower gardens & the like. We remove all the old materials before rebuilding your roof. This is so we can inspect & repair decking, flashing & venting. We use 15 lbs felt on most roofs & 30lbs felt on steep roofs. We always use an ice/water membrane in the valleys & around any pipe opening. We use proper nails for the felt & shingles. We never use staples. After the work is complete, we use a silicon type product to seal all critical areas. We always clean the gutters to remove any construction debris. Your grounds should look the same or better after our work is complete. We will be documenting all work in progress for you to review because we realize most homeowners prefer not to climb on their roofs. We will be glad to discuss all of our building techniques for applying the roof. With over 2,000 projects completed in this area, we invite you to review our portfolio of some of our finished products. I have been in the construction business for 20 years. I started out of necessity because I started purchasing rental units at an early age. I quickly learned that I needed all the skills to maintain property so I worked as a journeyman until I developed the skills & confidence I needed to handle almost all trades. We specialize in settling your insurance claim & our goal is to replace your roof in a manner that will set your home apart from the average roof. We specialize in residential roofing in Birmingham & have been in business for over 6 years. We only use the best materials & are dedicated to completing each project in a timely manner. All of our staff are experienced and certified as roofing contractors in Birmingham & have been with us for at least 6 years.
