Mike did not return my call till the next day when I first called him; when he did call back, he quickly referred me to his wife so she could discuss the job further with me. I didnt hear back for another 2 days, but then got a call back and Ms Jones was very pleasant and we decided to meet the next week at the home so she could review the basement, and give me an estimate. On the day of the meeting, I was told that Mike only works with customers after Ms Jones has created a plan (for which the customer is charged 500-1500 dollars), and he would not consider discussing the project till a plan was finalised per ms Jones. This after they were told the basement was partially finished, stubbed and pumbed. I was surprised a remodelling company would try and force customers to spend upwards of 500 dollars just to discuss the project. Had several other leading companies give me a quote, and nobody showed such an attitude. Very disappointing. I will be taking my business somewhere else.

Exterior Waterproofing

Exterior Waterproofing, Philip Madden and his crew, are superb contractors. They are not cheap, but their price is fair and reasonable for the work they do and it is a pleasure working with them. They are one of the few contractors I've hired who have done the work on schedule, on time, at the highest quality and at the agreed upon cost. I heartily recommend them to anyone needing waterproofing work. Scott Williams scott.sr@williamshome.org

We were in a somewhat desperate situation as rain water was pouring into our finished basement during a very rainy week. Phillip Madden, the owner, was able to rearrange his calendar so his crew could work on our home. They were able to locate the problem and to fix it for us over a two-day period. We are so grateful for Exterior Waterproofing for excellent work and service.

B-Dry Waterproofing and Foundation Repair

The overall job was a success and we are pleased with the finished product. The musty smell and mold that we have endured for 20 years is gone. We plan to finish the basement as a rec room for our grandkids. The job did have its issues, primarily because there was not good communication between the salesman, the construction crew and the customer. Classic case of say what the customer wants to hear to win the bid, but not put it in writing for the construction crew to perform and review it with the customer present. The misunderstandings had to be ironed out on the fly during the job when only the crew was available. Ultimately, B-Dry did all they said they would and more, but it required my presence and insistence to get the job done to my satisfaction. Admittedly, I am an anal engineer that has to understand all the details and will not accept a "sales" answer to a structural question. Our only complaint was that we returned from a trip late on Sunday night after they had finished the job on Friday. The house was 96 degrees at 9PM because they had opened the circuit breaker to the AC while fogging the basement for mold on Friday. They did not close the breaker before leaving and temperatures were near 100 that weekend.

HOMES BY INDIANWOOD, INC

Our basement is adjacent to an outdoor flagstone patio with stone fireplace, and we wanted the finished basement space to tie in with and kind of "match" the outdoor space - we were looking for rustic, but nice - kind of a western feel. We interviewed several contractors before hiring Bill Kinnebrew at Indianwood Builders. We chose Bill because we could tell that he really understood our vision for the space, and he immediately made several suggestions that were exactly along the lines we were looking for. The project itself was painless. Every day during the project, Bill's guys showed up on time, worked hard all day, and cleaned up after themselves. There was not a single day that they didn't show up, or slacked off, or left the basement a mess - and the project was finished ON TIME. I have worked with other contractors in the past, and those are all definitely exceptions to the rule. Bill was also great about logistics - all of the aspects of the project (like framing, sheetrock, adding a new HVAC unit, plumbing, cabinet installation, etc.) were timed perfectly with no days where nothing was happening. The work was performed to a very high standard - no corners were cut. Bill and his guys were also very patient and obliging when we wanted a change or addition to the project (or when we changed the paint color for the third time). If you are considering any type of construction project - basement addition, kitchen remodel, etc. - you should definitely talk to Bill at Indianwood Builders.

ELM Construction LLC

Elm Construction did our major remodel, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. We did a total renovation of the living areas of our house and included a laundry room addition. The renovation included gutting our kitchen, removing interior walls, moving a staircase, the laundry addition, replacing and covering our deck, and reconfiguring the layout of our finished basement. It was a big job! From working with Elliott on the design, to getting the 3D rendering, to the actual demo and reconstruction, the experience went so smoothly. Donavon, our project manager, stayed on top of everything and went out of his way to make sure everything was done to the highest of standards. Donavon kept in touch daily, and they provided us a link to their portal which made scheduling, change orders, and payments easy. We lived in part of the house during the whole thing, and Elliott and Donavon made sure we weren’t too inconvenienced. We will definitely use Elm again for any future projects. We highly recommend them!

Overall the experience was fine. I enjoyed working with him and would do it again. They did good work. He speaks english but many of those who work with him may not. I liked the work he did and he solved a couple of minor other problems while he was there. I am looking to have him back to do other work as well. The most expensive part of this trip was the basement blocks having to be done. Overall he worked with me on price and we agreed. My only complaint was that it took longer than they initially stated, but on the upside, the totally cleaned up everything. If I found a problem, I just shared it with them and they fixed. Overall very pleasant experience.

Business Description: We have been Birmingham’s respectful home remodeling company for the past 20 years, and as such - we have found that most home owners fear that during the process, their home will be violated and they will feel inconvenienced and disrespected. This is why Harmony Remodeling has created a unique method of construction that guarantees the home owner with an on-time, clean, responsible, stress free remodeling experience that will surpass their exacting standards and high expectations. We put as much emphasis on the process as we do the product. We are after your referral, not your savings account. Our company's core values are based on honesty, integrity, good ethics, UNCONDITIONAL RESPECT and most of all … HARMONY. By working “in sync” and unselfishly with our homeowners - our fellow employees, our suppliers, and our shareholders all have the same goal: Harmony. Simply put, "The Harmony Way” was developed to provide everyone involved more life; a better life with as little stress or disruption as possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We started out in 1996, doing a few small jobs which eventually led to many larger projects. As the company grew, we came to understand that the way we made the Homeowners feel had more of an impact on the project than the physical structure that we built. We constructed many custom homes and finished many remodeling projects that were "fit for a king." But we began to realize that you can create the most incredible kitchen, bath, house - whatever, for someone … and if you stress them out in the process, they won't appreciate any of it. So, with that knowledge, we started focusing on the "process" as much as we did the product. The result was that time after time, when we put everything we had into showing the upmost of respect to the owner, their family, their property, and (most of all) their every day routine, it was a success. In the end, they loved the job and would emphatically refer us to thier friends. So today, we've fine-tuned this approach and developed a code of conduct for our employees, our subs and our vendors that focuses on our number one objective: Trust and Respect. Once that is established, we can accomplish anything and rest assured that everyone is happy. So, when we are asked, "What makes your company different?," it's easy. Our business systems focus on the desire to deliver a "Stress Free Remodeling Experience," (as opposed to fast profits) which in turn results in our customers' delight with the project AND THE PROCESS. At Harmony, we're interested in a GREAT referal, not your savings account.
