Reviews in Austin for Pool Remodeling

Anthony & Sylvan Pools

As a long time Angie’s List subscriber (15+ years), I have posted reviews of numerous companies (35+) that have provided exceptional service for my wife and I, both at our prior home in Dallas and now at our new home here in Austin. Of all the companies reviewed however, there is only one that has warranted multiple reviews and that company is Anthony Sylvan Pools (A&SP). They were one of 5 pool companies we engaged back in 2018 to submit proposals for an elevated pool and deck at our new home in the Austin hill country. Their design proposal (in 3D virtual reality (VR) form that you could literally fly around and through to explicitly see and actually “feel” what you would be getting) blew us away and in addition the cost was approximately one third less than the next best competitor. Needless to say we awarded them the contract, and construction, while challenging (e.g., as high as 10 feet above ground, huge thick concrete forms with 7 tons of steel, several hundred cubic yards of packed road base below deck, pool equipment below water level, etc.), proceeded reasonably on schedule with few hiccups. In the 2 years since commissioning, we’ve only experienced 1 issue of significance, which was a failure of the heater igniter that A&SP quickly isolated and replaced under warranty. The purpose of this review post (our 3rd) is to try to convey how thrilled we are with every aspect of our life that is now centered outdoors around our pool and deck. We along with several members of our family and friends are swimming, sunning, eating, visiting and/or view gazing poolside virtually every day of the week, which is exactly what we were hoping for at the outset. If you’re wanting to build a new pool and your area is served by A&SP, I highly recommend you give them a call to see if they can make your dreams come true as well…

Steve cleans and services my pool once a week no matter what. Weather has not deterred Steve and we've had a lot of rainy days this year! Steve's service and price includes all the chemicals and small repairs and parts. (i.e keeps tail attached to the Polaris, repairs small parts on pool pump, replaces tiles) and of course the brushing, skimming, skimmers. Steve is experienced, professional, patient and kind. I am a new pool owner and he answers all my questions so that I understand and goes beyond thinking of things that I don't think to ask. I can text Steve at anytime and he always gets right back to me. He has often made special trips to check out anything I think might be is a problem. He also loves my dogs and takes a moment to throw the Frisbee.

The sides of my fiberglass swimming pool were bowing in. Also, a botched leak repair by another provider had left the main drain on the bottom of the pool inoperative, which meant that the only way I could get rid of fine grit on the bottom was to vacuum it up. Jim and his crew came in, assessed the situation, and brought the unexpected good news that they could give me my main drain back in the same operation as straightening the pool sides. This is a messy job, requiring making cutouts into the fiberglass pool sides, straightening and bracing the sides, installing a new main drain, replacing the cutouts, putting on a new fiberglass surface, and finally adding new pool tile and patio surface. The result is gorgeous, and every bit of construction debris was cleaned up at the finish. Jim explained each step of what was being done as we went along. They have a very wide selection of tiles and pool and patio colors. Everyone who showed up on site, from Jim on down, was courteous and professional. Obviously, I hope never to encounter this particular big repair again, but if something like a new leak ever crops up, I'd call Jim again in a heartbeat.

Took longer than I thought it would, but the very cold February winter snap set progress back considerably. Pool is now finished and my family really enjoys the water. If you do build a pool, my suggestion would be to go bigger rather than smaller. You won't regret it when your family comes over to swim

A&S did a great job. Very professional, and very fast working. We were very fortunate to order our job as the country was going into lockdown with COVID, and given the speed of the construction work, we were able to enjoy our pool with friends and family. Would definitely recommend to others, especially if you have a good idea what you want to build.

Very happy with the pool A&S built for us. We, along with the rest of Texas decided to build a COVID pool back in early 2020. We did run into some challenges, but everything has been addressed and we're extremely pleased with our result. Overall, great design and construction but the service afterwards has truly exceeded our expectations. Very grateful to have a company standing behind their build. Dan Barrett, Justin and Daylon have all been fantastic in our follow-up requests. I would build with them again in a heartbeat.

We have a 15,000 gunite and plaster pool that was in serious need of replastering after 24 years. Chris came out to inspect the pool, asked relevant questions about our care of the pool, issues with our maintenance, etc. ?He was punctual and communicated very well. He provided an estimate that was about $3,000 cheaper than the next lowest - primarily because every other company that bid insisted on several add ons - replacing tile, significantly higher grade materials for the coating, etc. ?2 of the other companies (A grades on Angies List btw)?told me flat out that it was impossible to replaster without replacing the tile - which when I researched is absolutely not the case. The final deciding factor for me - no deposit, no draws, no payment until the work was complete. ?In Chris' words - "we are?confident you will be pleased with the work and happy to pay when we're done". ? That might be different with a larger job, but for me it was now a no brainer. In the end, we chose to upgrade to a moderately priced quartz finish plaster with a light blue tone. Watermark's team showed up to do the work on schedule. ?They kept us informed via email of estimated work date due to some weather delays. ?Their team was professional and took care with our yard and the deck around the pool. ?4 days of work (as promised) and we were filling the pool with water. The pool looks great and I am very pleased with the work. ?And our original tile is still in place, no worse for the wear (actually looking better since it got cleaned up a bit when they removed the plaster). The only complaint - during the strip of the old plaster, they lost the fitting for my Polaris 360. ?Fortunately, the company doing the start up (Pristine Pools - recommended by Chris and also doing a great job) had the fitting that they supplied to me at no charge. ?Otherwise, Chris said he would have promptly replaced it as well.

Recent Review: Excellent Job! They stuck to the timeline they had advised us on how long it would take to have it put in. The quote given prior to the project was dead on the cost of the services after completion. They didnt try to jack up the price by adding miscellaneous things on the work order. Our swimming is absolutely beautiful! We also have a contract with them for pool maintenance three times a year and they have stayed on top of that as well.

Recent Review: I received 4 bids from different pool contractors and ended up choosing Tropical Pools of Austin for a few reasons. Ryan (the owner) was right in line with the price with my other bids, but had incredible detail when it came to the design he showed me on the Pool studio software. The pool design looked great, but Ryan also took the time to give an almost exact replica of my existing covered patio (which is large 40 x 15') and included details of my furniture, fireplace, items on the mantle of the fireplace, ect. which really gave me a visual of what my backyard would look like once completed. So the great detail in the design, the fact that he responded quickly to my estimate request, showed up to our appointment on time, and was very professional were all plus's for me. Ryan communicated with me throughout the process so I always knew what was going on. He was also on sight almost everyday to make sure things were being done right and to minimize any possible problems that may arise. The detail Ryan showed on the design carried on throughout the project with every part of the project. One of the the things we were having Ryan do for us was level our existing concrete patio so it wouldn't slope so much. When we got to that phase of the project, we found out the slope was a little more than expected and instead of being able to put a layer of thin coat to raise the level, Ryan and the concrete contractor decided it would be best to tear out the existing patio and pour a new patio that connected to my pool decking all in one pour. By doing this, it removed the possibility of my patio cracking over time. This was an unexpected change and Ryan didn't ask for any additional money to do this, he just said "its the right way to do it" and he just wanted to make sure it was done right so I wouldn't have the potential for an problems in the future. There were several times when Ryan made small improvements to the project and never asked for additional money. You can tell his main objective is to make sure the customer is happy and that he is providing a quality finished product. I would highly recommend you get an estimate from Tropical Pools of Austin. You are going to get a lot more bang for your buck with going with a smaller pool company, especially with someone like Ryan who knows what he is doing and how to build a great pool.

Recent Review: Waterview Pools completed our beautiful swimming pool in 9 weeks; that was from contract signing to filling the pool with water. The owner of the company, Cody, says the build time may be a record. Cody?s design was excellent and it was followed perfectly during the build. We are very pleased with the pool, and also pleased with the crews that worked on it. A possible exception is the crew that removed the decking and pool forms as their cleanup could have been better. We recommend Waterview Pools.

Recent Review: Cody pool performed the following activities in the re-surfacing of the pool and I would advise anyone looking to have this work done to make sure they have the following services included in their estimates also. 1) replace all pool jets 2) remove all plaster around all skimmers, and pool jets. 3) remove all plaster around all drains and pool lights. 4) remove all tile trim and replace it. 5) replace all skimmer, pool jets, and drain covers with new matching colors. 6) rebalanced the pool chemicals and provided all new pool maintenance equipment including: a) new skimmer pole and skimmer net. b) new skimmer hoses and vacuum head. c) new chemical testing kit (professional) Cody pool also installed an new UV sanitizing unit. The work was completed in 6 days start to finish. Jason our foreman visited the job site every day to deal with any concerns and to answer any questions. The work comes with a 15 year guarantee. This is important for obvious reasons and Cody Pool is big enough to execute on the guarantee. We received 5 bids Cody Pool was the second most expensive but only by a couple of hundred dollars. They provided us with full color brochure as we were making our decision with complete examples which helped greatly. We then visited their show room on I-35 to see what our new surface would actually look like. In all aspects Jason our foreman was responsive. He even returned my phone calls on the week end when I know he was off work and gave me his cell phone number of I had any questions.

Recent Review: No one really wanted this job. The few who would bid on it gave me outrageously high bids. Pool builders would much rather build a new pool than fix an old one, so Mike was the only one who would take the job on. It was supposed to be a 5 day project but ended up taking six weeks. "We will be there first thing in the morning" really meant "See you in a few days." Part of this was because the sub contractors would get a call on a new pool and go there instead and part of it was that there ended up being four different leaks to detect and repair. The good news is that eventually everything was done and done well and the price was reasonable.

Recent Review: They have been cleaning our swimming pool for over a year now and it is in the best shape it's ever been. It's always clear, never smells of chemicals nor does on have a burning sensation while in the pool due to chlorine. The company features a husband/wife team and they are the nicest, most helpful, honest people I've met in a long time. No hidden charges, no extra work done before checking with you, you can count on getting a reply back for questions and they are the most reasonable service. They do high end pools to small family backyard pools like ours, yet they treat us like we are the most important client in the world. We love their service.

Recent Review: Rob Scott did an excellent job in recommending the surface and color for the pool. Cen Tex started sooner than expected which was very impressive, and not our usual experience on such projects. He is following up with us on securing two circulation "eyeballs" to fit our 48 year old pool. The workers were non-stop in chopping off the old plaster and preparing the surface for the Pebble Tech surface. The next day the high tech vehicles started appearing and by the fourth day the pool was being filled. The resulting appearance of the pool was every bit of what we were hoping for. We have already given Rob's contact information to a friend who is looking for a reliable company to resurface his pool.
