Reviews in Austin for Installing Indoor Plantation Shutters

Gotcha Covered
5.0
What our home needed was some plantation shutters. We had a picture in our mind’s eye of what we wanted, but we also knew the challenge was to find a company who had the product quality and the experience to accurately interpret our vision. We found that company in “Gotcha Covered”. More precisely, we found what we needed in Mike and Penny Parks who happen to own and operate Gotcha Covered. They weren’t the first company we had in our home to give us estimates. They were actually the fourth. We had 17 windows to shutter, and we weren’t willing to let some hack come in and destroy our home. When Mike and Penny came to visit, they first listened to what my wife and I wanted and envisioned, and then they shared with us several different lines of shutter. But they didn’t just come in and show us their wares…they also educated us on each of the different lines, and the different considerations we should keep in mind for each. They discussed the different wood options, shade, stain, colors, shutter width, trim, placement of the louver arms, and so much more. There were things we didn’t even think to consider, but thanks to Mike and Penny, we were able to select exactly what we were looking for. They were patient, and they were happy to share their product and design knowledge. When we had questions, their answers were thorough and insightful. When they left, we knew we had found the company we had been looking for. Mike and Penny have a business model that we didn’t find in any other company. First, they were friendly, kind and very professional. Secondly, they were engaging, and we found that helped to transfer the vision of what we were wanting and needing. Yes, they are a professional company, but it felt more like neighbors coming over and helping us. That was a great feeling. We also appreciated their love for the Lord, and how they live out their faith in their business. As they told us, they would never want to treat us differently than they’d want to be treated. They were honest and straightforward, and we never felt like they were up-selling us or pushing us in a direction we didn’t want to go. Again, it was as if neighbors had come over. It turns out the shutters came in 2 weeks early. We were grateful for the unexpected advance. We scheduled the install, and were amazed that the installer had everything installed so quickly. The installer did a great job, and you could tell he had a lot of pride in his workmanship. That meant a lot to us. But here is something that meant a lot more. Mike came over to inspect the shutters right after they were put up. He could have just asked me if I was happy and not come any further than my front door, but he doesn’t work that way. First, he apologized that Penny couldn’t make it because she was volunteering her time at a women’s shelter. I think that’s beautiful, and they apologized for that? Again, they live out their faith in the work. Just as it should be. So, Mike comes in and literally checks EVERY shutter. He doesn’t just look at them. He makes sure each and every one of them functions in every way, and that there are no loose, bent, broken or underperforming parts. He was very thorough. Now, we wake up every day and catch ouselves staring at our shutters. They’re absolutely beautiful. They are exactly what we envisioned. They came in under time and right on budget. They’re just perfect and we couldn’t be happier with them. And we couldn’t be happier with Mike and Penny Parks with Gotcha Covered. There were no “gotcha’s” with Gotcha Covered. None at all. They listened, they educated, they collaborated and then they delivered. If quality work with a great product is important to you, I strongly recommend Gotcha Covered. If being able to trust, appreciate and admire the people you trust for your shutters is important to you, I strongly recommend Mike and Penny.

We had a wonderful experience with Austin Window Fashions! We worked with Leslie Plas who was a total pleasure to work with. She was so incredibly knowledgable and helpful along every step of the way. She helped us decide what shutters suited our home style best, offered design advice, where shutters would be beneficial in our home and where they were not necessary, and what color would best compliment our current trim and paint colors. She is a wealth of information and I trusted her expertise 100%. Chris our installer was very professional and paid attention to detail. He didn't skip corners and was very easy to work with. I love the assurance of their lifetime warranty and really feel like they wanted to be sure we were 100% satisfied with our experience from start to finish. We couldn't be happier with our new shutters and feel like they have transformed our home! You will not be disappointed with your choice to work with Austin Window Fashions! If you do- ask for Leslie Plas!

blind was fine although jury rigged at installation. Shutters were a disaster from start to finish. Tried to jack up the price on second attempt at installation.

The company was quite impressive and professional during the estimation process and installation process. They kept me informed on their progress. Whenever they scheduled an appointment, they usually arrived early, but called first to ask if that was okay. Very polite & professional. The installation for the plantation shutters was a little more clumsy than the wood blinds. They chipped off some dry wall in a couple of places, and some of the shutters didn't close completely smoothly. However, they came back to fix them promptly. The installation for the wood blinds was perfection though. They finished quickly, and cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. They didn't clean up as well during the plantation shutter installation. However, that is a much more tedious installation. Otherwise, I would've given them all A's. If there are any repairs needed, they are happy to come back, even if they installed the stuff years ago. I like that they manufacture everything locally too.

The company was punctual, and did a great job, from quote through installation. They do need to come back for a warranty repair on one of the panels - but do not expect any issues there.

I could not believe how much attention, patience, and help Darby from Austintatious Blinds was willing to give us when all we needed was just one plantation shutter for a weird side light by our front door that was to giving us enough privacy. She was helpful and took as much care with our puny order as if we were coming in to place an order for an entire house of windows. And - we absolutely love our plantation shutter for where it is and what it does. It looks absolutely amazing, and functions easily and perfectly. All in all, a delightful experience - I highly suggest trying this place out if you are considering plantation shutters.

Recent Review: Claudia and husband, James, are an excellent team, helpful, professional team who ensured I received the best price they could afford and remain in business. This review, as they know, will not be brief as brevity is not my forte. lol The prior year I had done a lot of researching products, companies, pricing, but life happened and decorating my year old major renovation project back side's open living-kitchen space's 6 windows for looks and privacy that complimented the new space would have to wait another nearly 9 months. I didn't want to lose my nice yard view all together, nor lose too much light, and required protection from the summer's heat gain in the late afternoon (unless company was over..then I wanted view of my yard), and I wanted privacy at night (I had solar screens for daytime privacy and some heat gain protection). Someone with taste to bounce ideas off of and a reputable company that had been around a long time to back up any install or help with warranty issues while at a fair, very competitive price were also musts. I narrowed my results down to 2 companies the previous year (though I would likely need a different salesperson at the "other" company). Over the winter I decided shutters would not be appropriate for my needs given the windows so close to one another and I wanted a clear view of yard at times (I would be unable to open the shutters away form the windows for the clear view; I also wanted to lighten up the room and have different texture). When I was ready to finish what I had started, I thought the bottom line $ would drive my entire decision, though I really liked Claudia and she had even come to my home. Shades and blinds had so many options (top-down-bottom-up/float or to not float? lift systems: ultra glide or lite rise? Shades or blinds? Illumicell or darkening? concerned about Heat gain factor to block heat from coming in or more about letting air out? Help with textures and fabrics? I needed someone to help me through so many decisions for my home. I visited the "other" company first as they were closest. Unfortunately (or rather, fortunately), I got the same person as last year. Pushy, impatient, and as I finally saw a shade she kept avoiding, I asked for the quote to which she pushed at me, said it would be way over my budget (she didn't know my budget this year and did't ask), and the blinds would be much better with the free cord system for bottom up. After just spending a chunk of time doing other work so I could have some time to digest and think about what she didn't really want to explain, she gave me the expensive shade quote and turned away to work on things she had to get done before they closed (in a few minutes), I walked out and called Claudia from their parking lot. Claudia, she remembered me, was willing to take information over the phone for what I was thinking I may want, got me the estimates the next day. I was ready to go with Claudia even if she came in a little high on blinds, but she would have to be lower on roman shades I fell in love with that I guessed by the huge price difference and attitude from Leslie at the "other" company it might be a possibility. Why Claudia? I remembered Claudia's professionalism, warm smile and personality, willingness to come to my home day from 1, and that she and her husband built up their business over the many years to even have showroom floor instead of the fly by night's who work out of their homes or a place you won't ever visit. I went to her showroom and she showed me what I was looking at and that the roman shades had a backing behind them as opposed to the many brands that didn't at Home Depot or Lowe's and even big retail stores like Penney's. Claudia answered questions and then squeezed me in between 2 appointments that afternoon, patiently answered all questions, brought samples, gave input when asked (some may not and she will be polite and just be the supportive professional you want). The Hunter Douglas' tiered Vignette roman shades not only had a backing to keep dust out, but heat coefficient to keep heat from coming in that the blinds didn't have (there is a specs book to see more than you ever knew). I wanted the option to have the top down and bottom up (i.e. "float" effect) so there was light at the top and blocking heat below in the hottest part of day, while the beautiful linen like fabric lightened up the room while adding contrast. The roman shades added texture. The lift system for these shades do have to have 2 cords per Hunter Douglas' warranty (will not warranty "float"ing for liters cordless systems...she called to verify before ordering), but you hardly see the cord (can hide them in a pouch if bother's you that much), and they are the smoothest opening and closing shades (or blinds) I have ever tried! :-) Artwork and craftsmanship completed my renovation. I could hardly wait. It took a few weeks. James, Claudia's husband, came out, and did the install very professionally and quickly. A really nice guy too. :-) There were some minor, anal retentive tweaks James gladly came back to tweak the next week. James is picky himself, but understanding that I was too and I had had some time to play with all the moving parts that go up and down in what most people know are typically imperfect/non-level non-square window openings. Claudia and James not only run a professional, hard working, competitive business, but they super nice people and would be a referral for them anytime. To know I helped a family business made me feel good too. I also found that Claudia will not try to sell you something you do not need, push you into anything, will explain everything you want to know, and I know from also having the shutters experience the previous year that what she tells you is what years of experience tell her and I trust what she says to be true after my research. If Claudia says she can not go lower on a price, she means it, as she has to make some profit or she would be out of business. The "other" business had far more cushion and that salesperson chose to not do what is best for this customer. Thanks Claudia and James!

Recent Review: I was very impressed by the owners of Lakeway Blind and Shutter. When I phoned them for an estimate they returned my call within a few hours. They came over the next day and helped me decide which product would work best for my windows. I also thought their prices were very reasonable. I was trying to match the color of a shutter already in the room and when they didn't have the right color with them ,they went back to their office and returned the next day with a perfect match. I was very happy with the turn around time . The professional instillation was done by the owner so I never worried about a third party coming into my home. The Shutters and Blinds look fantastic ! I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for Blinds or shutters!

Recent Review: They made the shutters for the house, and they measured the doors wrong, so the blinds were not fitting the windows very well at all. I had to have them re-built so that they fit, and add a piece to them to make them stick out far enough to clear the window. I wouldn't order from them again because they should have known that they wouldn't be satisfactory and I would be upset about it.

Recent Review: The overall experience was excellent from start to finish. Emily came to my home with bunches of fabric samples and hardware catalogs and samples. I knew which windows I wanted to cover, but I wasn't set on a particular style/look. Emily had great design ideas and an eye for what would look good and coordinate with the existing furniture and upholstery. It would've taken me days to put together what she did in just a few hours. She measured the windows and sketched out the final designs. She was also able to confirm availability of the fabric I chose and provide a cost estimate in the same visit. Very nice and very efficient! She and her installer came back a few weeks later and installed everything. The draperies fit perfectly and the fabric/hardware quality was excellent. I would definitely do business with InteriorsAustin again and plan to use them in the near future when it's time to replace the blinds in my home with some awesome plantation shutters that I recently saw at their showroom in Spicewood.

Recent Review: Everything was fine and the shutters look great and we are absolutely please with the results. Another great job well done by the Moreland's. We had 3 sets of shutters installed last year and we loved the results so much, that we had the dining room window done this time. We love these shutters so much. I have an order in for 3 more window to be done when the time and money allows. They are very understanding about waiting on our schedule of work that we can be done. Very great company to do business with.

Recent Review: I would give our experience a A+++. Everyone we dealt with from the owner to the installers were just right. They look amazing---best analogy is that I feel we added a piece of investment "furniture" to our windows! We could not be more pleased. Craftsmanship like this takes time...I would be wary of a shutter company that can turn them out too quickly. We really did our homework about quality and warranty and Southern Shutters delivered.

Recent Review: Michael White is amazing! This was one of the most pleasureable purchases in quite some time. I received a tip from a buddy that he had purchased from this company and saved a boatload of money on real WOODEN plantation shutters. I saw his and had to compare with the company I was going to contract through. Michael came to my home, did an inventory, measured, and provided almost an instance quote. They have an amazing array of color choices and options. Having seen our friend's result, we immediately ordered and received our shutters in about four weeks! Michael and his great installer arrived with the order, installed the shutters in less than a half day. The caulking around the shutters was the most laborious task as the perfectly fitted framed units slid in and were screwed in with ease. We cannot say enough about the detail and care exhibited! Anyone wanting to contact us is welcome for more detail. Michael is an engaging, personable guy. You will be glad you did business with them!
