Handyman Connection of Austin-Westlake
5.0
First class, all the way! Handyman connection started with a clear and reasonably-priced written bid. They then brought the handyman within a few days. He was an older fellow with a wide variety of experience, assisted by his wife. He did very good work. There was only one minor error, but it was not a big problem by any means: At one level in the stacking of the bricks, he forgot to change the interleaving of the bricks, so in one place, the bricks are directly atop one another instead of staggered. It still looks fine though, and other than that minor inideality, everything went beautifully. I tried to get other bids on this, and didn't get much from them. One contractor, who had done other, unrelated work for us before, came by a couple times, but never actually submitted a bid, despite repeated attempts to contact him. Another one came by and gave a kinda-vague oral-only quote. One other potential contractor never called back on the original request. Handyman Connection, on the other hand, was consistently forth-coming and consistent in the entire process. I recommend Handyman Connection wholeheartedly!

Great! Jodi was super in going over ideas and listening to what I was trying to achieve. She provided what I needed for the Homeowners Association for approval, and she scheduled the actual services in a timely manner. The work was great! Jodi's crew was professional and very hard-working. Juan, in particular, was amazing in his art on the flagstone veneer on the porch and steps. When I decided I needed something else for the edging, Jodi and crew got it done the very same day. They also helped me same-day with a problem that was created by somebody else in the neighborhood. You cannot beat that level of responsiveness! This was a first-rate experience as to the people and the work. I am very happy!

This was our second time working with Jodi, and everything turned out so well. She is easy to work with and has a great team. The estimate was accurate and teh work was completed on schedule (with a few weather delays--that's what happens in January!). Jodi has a great eye for design, and she gave us great advice about what to do to remove grass in our front yard. We are so happy with the work and have been getting lots of compliments from neighbors.

I thought I would need a new door from my enclosed porch into the garage. My dog had shredded the veneer on the door. Louis suggested a new face on the door which would save me a lot of money. It turned out beyond my expectations - he repeated the design on my front door and it is beautiful! I can't wait to get it painted. Louis is very professional and does quality work. I highly recommend him.

Ed's crew arrived on time each day and worked hard to finish the project within a few days. The retaining wall was a huge project, but they were able to complete the entire wall in 2 days. It looks beautiful, structurally solid, and matches the house exactly. They also picked up all stone that I'd ordered through a local stone supply company. Ed took the time to let me completely explain what I was looking for, including materials (cement, color, etc.). My wife and I are completely satisfied with the incredible work that Spicewood Stone did around our entire home.

The whole project went very well, accept for a very tiny leak in the plumbing one night at 2am. Lloyd came out to the house at 2am and the leak was promptly fixed. The leak was so small that there was very little to know damage to the house. This issue occurred during the construction phase of the bathroom.

Jodi was very responsive to our request for a proposal and promptly retuned my call. She came out and we talked through what would look best for the home and even offered some ideas for future projects. Hands down, Jodi was the most responsive out of the bidders and her proposal was one of the more cost effective. It was an easy decision to hire Jodi and we paid half up front. The crew arrived and got to work within a couple of weeks and were also friendly and worked very hard, despite the oppressive Texas heat. Within a few days, we had our new patio and are very satisfied with the results. I would not hesitate to recommend Jodi and Morningstar and already have to friends and colleagues.

I have always been happy with the rates that he quotes. Donald is a one man show and he finds great contractors for the service. He is very good at finding the right people in the right trades. He manages all of the trades and he makes sure they clean up after themselves. He is very good about coming up with solutions to any problems that may arise. We have spent around $200,000 through him over all of the projects.

Doug was very quick to respond and set up an appointment. I work nights and Doug went out of his way to accommodate my schedule. I was soliciting several bids on this job and Doug impressed me with his knowledge of the product he was selling. He didn't try to "hard sell" me, but listened to what I wanted and explained how he could get the results I required using his product. His bid was competitive with others and as I had already researched the James Hardie product I knew that was the siding I wanted on my house. In the end it was Doug's knowledge of his product and his willingness to listen to what my wife and I needed, and not try to sell us a "cookie cutter" install, that swayed us to hire Austin Hardi-Pros. Doug stayed in touch throughout the entire install so my wife or I were always able to get any of our questions answered. Mario and his crew were fantastic. They showed up promptly and were quick and professional. Even though the house is not large it presented several challenges. It has an aluminum shade porch installed over the back deck that I thought would have to come down. Doug assured me that was not necessary and Mario was able to side right around it and trim it so it looks original to the house. I had asked for extra thermal wrap under the new siding and Doug recognized that the shaded area under the porch did not need this, saving me some money. The front door trim and an arched window on the rear of the house did not lend themselves to Hardietrim. Mario proved himself to be a master craftsman and gave us a more durable front reveal than we had originally. It looks just as good, if not better, than the original hardwood trim pieces and will last longer in our crazy weather. Even on the arched window trim Mario went the extra mile. Rather than go cheap and easy, and throw up some wood trim in that one area, he took the time to fashion the proper fitting trim out of Hardie. They even replaced any exposed wood trim that was deteriorating with Hardie whether or not is was part of the siding job. As far as I can tell from the contract this was done at no extra cost to me. Overall my wife and I are very happy with the results. Our house looks better now than when we bought it. It is a huge load off my mind to get rid of that original, inferior, builder grade product that had weathered so poorly. We can now drive up to our house and be proud of its appearance. Our thanks to Doug, Mario and the guys from Austin Hardi-Pros. 3/17/2014 It's been over a year and a half since work was done. The house still looks great and we definitely saw a decrease in electric costs during the last full summer. Very happy we got the thermal wrap. Had a small cosmetic issue about 2 months ago with one of the panels shifting near the top of the chimney. Called Austin Hardi-Pros and Mario was out the next day and fixed it right up. He even checked in with me to make sure I had no other concerns. Great to work with a company that stands behind their work and their product.

We were very unhappy with the service and would not recommend this company. We provided very explicit instructions in each room as to the work that was to be done, emphasizing that the wood floors needed to be protected. They were not protected. When we first arrived at the site, there was thin plastic over the floors, which had already ripped in several places. The painters had paint cans and machinery directly on the floors and on our stone countertops. They had removed electrical plates and placed them and the screws directly on metal ledges, which could easily have scratched the metal ledges and in fact we think they did scratch some of those surfaces. The job supervisor assured us that he would correct these issues. The next time we went to check on the work, the floors were better covered; but they were painting next to a wooden cabinet without protecting that surface. Also, there were still paint brushes and cans on surfaces that could easily be damaged. They had cabinet pieces leaning against an open window. It was windy; and, if the wood had fallen through the window, down 41 stories, someone could have been killed. The quality of the work was very bad. The job supervisor blamed it on our designer and stated that she told him to use paint which he wouldn't have recommended. She disputes that and, based on other issues with the supervisor, we believe her. In any case, I think as a professional painting contractor, he should have voiced his concerns rather than using paint that he believed would not look right. Similarly, they sprayed cabinets and the quality was very unsatisfactory. The supervisor said that the poor quality was to be expected because some of the surfaces were veneer. Again, I think that a responsible professional would have advised the homeowner if they believed that the materials or the process would not produce good results. The painting quality was poor and, after several punch list attempts, we just wanted them out of our premises. We did not have them complete the rest of the work on the contract. We had to hire another contractor to complete the work and try to correct the issues which could be improved.

Business Description: A Frame Home Services, LLC was created over 8 years ago as a result of my wife and I buying a home in South Austin. After doing so, we experienced very poor customer service from local contractors combined with low quality workmanship, and little to no responsiveness. This experience and the will to help Homeowners in North Austin, and surrounding areas, rebuild after the two devastating hail storms that hit the community spearheaded the formation of A Frame Home Services, LLC. We've been actively working to improve our company by seeking quality contractors and subcontractors, upgrading technology and processes, & consistently evaluating our price point to offer the most competitive value for home and commercial remodeling and repairs in Austin.
