The contractor arrived on time. We reviewed the work, which in my case was to rebuild some wooden stair handrails that had rotted out, and repair the wooden railing around my front porch. He recommended that the handrail on the steps be completely rebuilt (the anchor posts had rotted out of the ground), but the railing around the front porch was largely salvagable (we only needed to replace the top board). After the consultation, he went to purchase supplies and got to work. I had purchased the "4 hours for $149" coupon. The job ultimately took about 6 hours, mainly due to the railings that had to be rebuilt from scratch. He also had to buy about ~$80 worth of lumber. He had his tools (circular saw, etc.) with him, and cut the pieces on the front lawn. After he was finished, he hauled all of the scraps and such away, leaving my front yard clear of debris. One word of note regarding this coupon: it only covers labor, not materials. Any wood or additional supplies that need to be purchased in order to complete the job, you are responsible for. Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of workmanship and the ease of working with this contractor. I'm actually going to use them again to repair my upstairs balcony railing.

They responded to my call on the same day and came to the house on the next day to give me an estimate. They thoroughly checked the entire porch railing and made a recommendation on which areas were in need of replacing. They provided me with exact cost of materials which they looked up online. And they were able to complete the job the next day which was a Saturday. They bought all materials needed and arrived at the time agreed upon to complete the work. They noted that only the mailbox post needed replacing and were able to remove the mailbox and place it on the new post thus saving me the cost of having to buy a new mailbox. Bret and Derek were very professional in their demeanor and projected a can-do attitude. The quality of their work was excellent and they took time to clean up after completion of the job. I highly recommend them!

We were very pleased with the work from Austin Deck Company. Their bid was very competitive with other bids we received. It was a pleasure working with Abe, he was very instrumental in helping with the selection of composite and also with creating additions to our decking. The crew, Josh & Michael were very polite and great at explaining the progress of each day. Abe came out often during the construction to check on progress and go over items with us. Overall, Abe and his crew are creative, courteous, prompt and conscientious. Our deck looks great and we are very happy with the way it turned out. Thank you Austin Deck Company... Ricky & Phillip

I contacted 21st Century Painting and Roofing as my front porch railings were in severe need of repainting. The paint was peeling due to a very poor DIY job. I contacted 2-3 companies and here on Angies list, all A rated, and 21st Century was the only one that contacted me. They replied quickly, came out the house and looked at the job, bid it, and their bid was quite reasonable so I hired them to do the work. We scheduled a date and time and they came on that day, got to work and did a fantastic job. The end result looks fantastic and the end price matched the bid to the penny. Highly recommend!

Called for a consultation/estimation, guy came out, showed him what I wanted (rails up the stairs, wife had surgery recently, and needed railings). Two short flights and a landing (5 rails total). Stairwell is one of these modern ones that has a flat surface on top and drywalled walls. Consultant they sent told me what it would cost, and what would be needed to be done. We agreed to a price, and they arranged someone to come out and work on it. Installer who arrived was personable, polite, and had a polite trainee with him. Unfortunately, the guy who wrote up the work order didn't really put a lot of thought into it, didn't give the right specs, and didn't realize what exactly the job entailed. I count on the people who I hire to know this, if I was an expert in home modification, I wouldn't hire people to do it. :) First off, the guy who spec'd the job had 2 mounting brackets for each 7 foot rail. You can't hold 7 foot rails on with 2 railing holders, not without the 7 foot rail bouncing up and down as you put weight on it. I have a disabled wife, and she needs something solid, not something that gives with each step. So the installer (who was, again, nice and seemed fairly competent) got on the phone, and they upped the price to go buy more parts. Then he had to install the rails using 300lb drywall mounts. It's been about 6-8 weeks, and the rails are already starting to shimmy as you walk up, because the drywall mounts are wriggling. I figure the rails will last about a year before I have to replace them. Looking back on it, the guy who spec'd it out, is to me, the issue. He apparently didn't know how to do rails, and gave a bad price and bad design to the installer. If I had it to do over again, I now know what I'd do. I'd put up an half-inch plank with a rounded edge up each side of the stairway, bolted to the two-by-fours in the wall wherever they are. Then I'd bolt the railing to that plank at the equal-distant points they need to be bolted in at, rather than in the drywall on drywall mounts. I'm giving the ratings I'm giving because they responded quickly, worked in a kind of remote area, and the installer seemed competent and did a good job with what he had to work with. I didn't give a better rating because the initial consultation should have pointed out to me the need for a mounting plate, and should never have spec'd a job to have a 7 foot long rail mounted on only two brackets (especially not a 1.5 inch thick hand rail). Next time, I will ask the contractor representative who specs the job what he thinks the installer will need and buy my own supplies, so I know there are enough supplies and the right type, rather than having my bill go up at the last minute due to bad design on his part.

Review: Cida came and gave me an estimate for the work. We set up an appointment to get it done. Cida was very easy to work with. The estimate was reasonable, and she kept me up to date on the work schedule, and did an excellent job. You can’t even tell that a railing was ever there. I would hire Cida at Green Cedar again without even thinking about it.

Pete was great, and we would definitely have him back. He really knows his stuff, and is a pleasure to work with. Weather thwarted us from getting projects started, but he kept in touch and used the time to price out some additional options for us. Although Pete calls himself a handyman, his advice on design and materials was excellent, and you really get the benefit of his experience. We have had lots of compliments on our new porch railings, from neighbors, friends, and random dog-walkers. It looks great, is very sturdy, and goes with the old porch amazingly well. Similarly, the trim of the dishwasher is exquisite; Pete went to Ikea to get a piece of material that would match the cabinets, so it looks as if it were all done at the same time. Pete works incredibly hard and fast -- the projects do not drag on, he gets things done. He is also very neat and cleans up after his project very carefully. I strongly recommend Pete -- we will definitely have him come back for other projects.

Everything went great! My handrails on my stairs are secure and you can't even tell where they tore a hole in the wall when the handrail came out. The pumphouse shed is in place and looks great. The trim on my outside windows looks great. Everybody was very nice and helpful. I will DEFINITELY use them again!

Recent Review: They did an excellent job and I'm extremely pleased with the result. The beginning of the job was problematic, as the estimator did not follow up with an estimate after his initial visit. I called him again because of the mostly good reviews the company had on Angie's List. When he did submit an estimate, the cost was off by 10,000 feet which I brought to his attention and it was corrected. Thus the C for responsiveness. That said, the rest of the job went very smoothly. Allen was a great job coordinator, helpful and responsive in every way. And the crew - Leno, Jose, and Leo - were just outsanding! They built the fence as though it was their own. Everything they did was careful, precise, and totally professional. I cannot thank them enough for giving me the sturdy, attractive, and - hopefully - long lasting fence that I desired. I would recommend the company's work; especially ask for this crew to build your fence.

Dave's father Taught him that he needed to decide if he wanted to be just another fence builder or if he wanted to provide a QUALITY product and SERVICE. Dave decided to stay with the QUALITY product and SERVICE so that he would always have access to consumers that knows that you get what you pay for and that cheaper doesn't always equal BETTER. Dave decided several years ago to stay with mostly residential fences and installs ornamental iron fences , Ornamental Gates iron railings and most other types of Fences. At 64 years old Dave is still going strong and continues to serve this community with the same level of QUALITY AND SERVICE. Please view my web site lovedayfence.net for a lot more information.
