Reviews in Austin for Installing Attic Fans

I purchased the deal for 2 hours for $144 thinking there was no way it should have gone over 2 hours. The technician even told me when leaving that it should have taken no more than 1.5 hours. First, he tried to fix the light that had gone out in my son's room. The light was also connected to a fan with a remote switch on the wall. He told me that he would not be able to fix it as it was because he didn't know if I needed a new controller for the fan remote or a fan switch (which was a little weird because the fan still worked from the remote switch on the wall...the light was the only thing did not work). Anyway, after knowing that he could temporarily fix it, but I would have to call another electrician back out to get my switch as it was on the wall, I told him to go ahead. This was my first disappointment. Now I was going to have to call someone else out again and pay another service fee and electrician charge because he could not get it back to original condition. After working on that for some time, he replaced a light switch in the kitchen. Did that quickly and it works. Finally, he moved on to the attic fan. Well, after about 45 minutes he comes down and tells me he can't get the fan off. He goes outside for a while and saws off part of the shaft to try to help, but to no avail. Thankfully, about that time I had an AC guy came to the house to fix our AC. Apparently the AC guy had a tool in his truck that easily removed the attic fan from the shaft. So, over an hour was spent on something that should have been done quickly had they come out with the right tool. At $96/hr, I was not too happy. Also, they knew they were replacing an attic fan, so any tools should have been sent. I finally do the walkthrough of everything, and notice that two lightbulbs in my son's room are no longer working. He goes back up to fix that again, and finally finishes everything. I am upset that I had to pay an additional $49 and on top of that am now going to have to call another electrician out to fix the light/fan wall remote in my son's room. Worst case, I do not think I should have been charged that extra amount. Even the technician felt it should have been done in less than 2 hours.

Had attic fan installed and found no difference from before installation. Hubby went in attic and discovered that fan blade was bent and could not rotate. Installer never bothered to check to make sure fan was operational after installation. Once hubby freed blade, we knew it was working, but made very little difference in the heat level in our attack. It also took months and months to get them out here to install the fan. Apparently they were ordering fans in bulk and had no inventory when they ran the special on Angie's List. We had to follow up several times with them to finally get them out here, even after they received the fans.

Originally I had someone from Malco come out who attempted to fix my fan among other things. He did not have the new remote (my fault since I didn't know it required a new remote) and when he took out the old remote, some of my lights did not work anymore. I had previously reviewed them because during my previous encounter, I had someone come out to install an attic fan (he did not have the correct materials to do that and worked on getting the old one off for over an hour before an AC guy came out and had the appropriate tool to help him). This ate into my time with the Angie's List deal for 2 hrs for $144. Even the electrician said his service should not have taken that much time. Still, I was charged the overage as well. In any case, Randy, the owner, contacted me. He was concerned that I did not get the service that he knew his company could provide. He offered to come out again free of charge and to fix the remote on the attic fan as well as the lights that were not working. In addition, he refunded me the extra $49 I was charged above the Angie's List deal. Randy was intent on making sure that I walked away a satisfied customer. He sent John out (very friendly and knowledgeable). He made sure to show up on time and also let me know when he was on the way. He did a great job fixing the remote in the fan and making sure all my lights work. I was very pleased with the follow up from Malco Electric. Perhaps the previous electrician that came out was just having a hard day and it didn't help that he was unfamiliar with the attic fan portion. In the end, Malco Electric did make everything right, and I am walking away a satisfied customer who would use them again.

We had a ceiling fan that was shaking. We had taken the fan down and couldn't diagnose the issue. The tech quickly realized the stability bar was loose and simply needed to be tightened. He then reinstalled the fan. Because I had purchased the 2-hour block of time from Angie's List, I went ahead and asked if he could look at an outside light that has not worked in awhile. He assesed that the switch was bad and installed a new one. We also wanted a new fan installed in our living room - where there was not any electrical outlets. The tech went into the attick to determine how the wiring could be run and tied into the current switches. He gave me an idea of the time that would be needed, so I called the office and scheduled a second appointment. The same tech came out, ran the wiring and installed the fan. He was quick, polite, punctual and offered to vaccuum where there was some debris from the work.

Very personable service person. Very careful. Removed the fan and wall controller, removed the blades and put it in the box for the . chandelier without being asked. I will be able to install fan in another location without worrying if there are any parts missing. . Took time to make sure I was happy with the height of chandelier. Very Good experience

Recent Review: Well first this is a family owned business which to me is very important. My home was built in 1977 so there was very little insulation to begin with, it was so nice to have an honest estimation of cost. The work was done on the day promised and the time of day as promised. This is a deliteful family who know what they are doing. When they arrived at my home I was explained exactly what would take place. I was told it would take about 6 hours and that was about how long it took . I put trust in this family and I was not disappointed. I would also like to add that some of the suggestions that were made to me were some very good ideas and I will be using this family business again real soon! Oh,did I forget to tell you I got a CPS Rebate, icing on the cake!

Recent Review: Great experience from the scheduling to the work. Cody was awesome. I had paid for 2 hours of electrical work. He showed up on time. I had purchased the wrong type of fan for what I wanted in one room and Cody took the time to explain what I needed to achieve my goal. On the second ceiling fan, the issue was flickering lights. Cody checked it out and said that I'd be better off (and safer) to purchase a new fan as the existing one was old and the sockets were breaking down. I explained that I had only paid for 2 hours and would waste more of that going to get the right fans. He offered to consider this service call as a consultation and would reschedule the 2 hour window I had paid for. He came back a week later and installed both ceiling fans within the 2 hour window. He was efficient, professional, and personable. A great experience due to Cody! Will hire again!

Recent Review: We paid around $60 per hour for his services. We could give them things to do and if it took less than an hour, we would find something for him to do. We gave him a list of removing concrete with some old metal fences, some wood working to fix, put in a new fan over the stove and they had various people who could do different projects. They were very professional on the phone and in coming here.

Recent Review: Kevin was prompt and professional. He had to improvise one canape on a ceiling fan and painted the old canape to make it fit the new fan. He also gave me some ideas on recessed lighting for my living room. He removed the two old fans and took away all the packaging etc. He is very neat.

Recent Review: So impressed! Decker Electric came to hang a new fan and chandelier. The fan is located very high--20 ft, so it took some time. They were great. On-time, professional and cleaned up after themselves. I think the pricing was very fair for the work performed. I will definitely use their services in the future.

Recent Review: I had Duhon Electric out to fix some wiring problems a couple of months ago and was pleased with the work. I had them back last week to replace a faulty GFI. And I had them come out again this week to hang 3 lights in really difficult to reach spaces and do some replacement of electrical switches. They did a phenomenal job - got here right on time, finished quickly, cleaned up. I couldn't be more pleased and will recommend them to all of my neighbors and friends.
