This is an update to a previous post. We hired Steve to repair the skirting under our house, install an access door to the crawl-space, and install a vent in the ceiling of our attached shed. The work was not not done well and we just discovered that the vent leaks when it rains. I had previously posted that Steve had been unresponsive to my attempts to contact him regarding this matter; however, it turns out that he was on vacation. He has offered us a refund for the vent

He had estimated that it would take a day but he finished in six hours, which we appreciated. He and his assistant were very thorough and cleaned up after each step of the work

It was a large project. I'm mostly happy with the work. The cost ended up being 23% higher than the original estimate. Some of the work ended up taking much longer than originally planned. I do have one minor complaint/suggestion. There was so much drywall work done that the dust clogged up the air conditioner filter. The air conditioner blower motor burned out because of this and cost me an additional $600. This is something I'll keep in mind for the future, and it seems like something an experienced company should be mindful of

I found water in my crawl space under the stairs. All the Xmas decorations and sheet rock were moldy and full of bugs. Insurance adjuster and I could find no apparent leak. The mold was killing my allergies. I contacted Advantaclean Environmental of south Austin b/c I had to get rid of mold. I called Wed 12-15-11 set an appointment for the following Monday. But George read the email I sent to magic one service and called me the next day. He came up himself to inspect the damage. He put together an itemized plan of what needed to be repaired with cost. He told me I could use other sheet rock and plumbing/HVAC people if I had established relationships. I opted to use people he worked with in the past the best decision I made. Brian from advanta clean came Friday and cut out the moldy sheet rock and he found the leak source was the hot water heater drain, hot water bib was leaking for washing machine and insulation failure around AC drain pipe. Doy Jackson Fletcher mechanical checked repaired the hot water heater replaced all the rotted wood, replace washing machine bibs. Bill Maloney came on Saturday replaced floated and textured the sheet rock in ONE day. Bottom line great quality and fast service. I would recommend them to all my friends

After swearing I would no longer write reviews for Angies List (I am in total disagreement with the fact that it takes 8 no shows and complete wasting of customer time and effort to equal 1 good review, thereby skewing the scoring of a contractor that screws people around), I had to write about this company. These guys came out early to access the job, then came back on time and ready to work. I had been told by a pest removal company that I had to have the wooden framework which is attached to the brickwork on the exterior of our home removed to have the screen replaced as it was not able to be accessed from the crawl space. The gentleman from Best Austin Handyman asked if he could have a look, got to it almost immediately and said it was no problem to get to, all he needed was screen. Since I had anticipated that this would be a two step job, I didn't have the screen on hand, but had several small odd jobs that they got to work on immediately while I headed to the store. Upon my return, they had finished all the jobs, and put away the ladders since they no longer needed them. They took the screen and installed it so securely that not only will squirrels not be able to get in my attic anymore, I feel fairly certain it might be the only thing still attached to my house after a tornado. These guys were professional, extremely courteous, skilled and eager to please. I would use them again in a heartbeat

If you ever need a foundation company this is bar none the absolute best. I met with all the local foundation companies with the best reputations - RamJack, Baird, GL Hunt and Olshan. The system FSS uses is not the least expensive, but by far the best. All components are galvanized to include the piping. The competitor's equipment could not even compare with FSS. Just as important, the crew who did the work on my home were absolute professionals in their trade. Andrew, Ricky and Gabe were the best. All of them have years of experience and the foreman, Andrew, has almost two decades of knowledge and hands-on experience, and knowing this eased any concernes I had. Once the fifteen piers were all in place, all piers were connected together via hydraulic hoses and pump. Only then was the house lifted simultaneously - both left and right sides. Initially, one of my major concerns was broken plumbing pipes, as I had read from many of their competitor's poor reviews. Once FSS began to lift the house it was done methodically and slowly, being extra careful to try not to break any pipes. No pipes were broken and my house was lifted an inch on the left front side and two and half inches on the right! FSS exceeded my expectations!

Given the incorrect start date by Judy at the Knoxville main office. Bad start. Crew arrived the next day and began working hard and diligently to complete the repair in a timely fashion. Weather and difficult shale soil slowed the work somewhat. The crew chief Brian, as well as the entire onsite staff were professional and dedicated to a job well done. I could not be more pleased with the results of the lift and clean up. Kudos guys

The unit is expensive, therefore the B rating under cost, it does a good job so it needed to be replaced. The new unit was installed and we were up and running in one visit. FANTASTIC! Scott's team showed up at 7:30 and got to work. They removed all our old and moldy insulation, scraped and removed all the mold, then sprayed the crawl space with a product to prevent against mold in the future. They then put in all new insulation and encapsulated our crawl space entirely. The vents are filled with foam, the ground and half of the walls are covered in a very thick silver insulator and they installed a dehumidifier to control humidity. Our crawl space is now more energy efficient, mold and moisture proof, AND a functioning storage space. By the time I got back home from work at 6 they were completely finished, had cleaned up after themselves, and even put a new lock on the door to our crawl space. We are very impressed and happy with the results! I feel like we added another room to the house

He was late to the appointment by at least 30 min. He listened well to our water leak history. He gave his thoughts on how likely mold growth was for each leak, if it couldn't be detected visually or without tearing something out to get a visual. He described how remediation would go if we had mold. He said he'd have our air test results within 24-48 hours and he'd send us, via email, the protocol for fixing any problems. It took a week to get a response from him and that was after sending an email and leaving two phone messages. He finally emailed the air sample test results (with little explanation of what they meant) and promised to have the full protocol report emailed that same evening. I got the report the next afternoon

I spoke with Josh on the phone and expressed our situation and concerns. He arranged for Allen to come out and check for moisture/mold inside our home. Allen was VERY professional and put my mind at ease, I wanted to make sure that we didn't have any water leaks in our home or moisture trapped between the sheetrock. We are doing a first floor renovation and I wanted to make sure that we didn't have any hidden problems before we spent a large amount of money on new wood floors, cabinetry, furniture, etc. Allen validated what I had already suspected, moisture and a moldy smell was coming up from a hole where a sink drain pipe went through to our crawl space. There were large gaps between the pipe and the concrete sub-floor above our crawl space. It was clear to see with his infrared laser that this was the major cause of our problem. We are in a community of 9 Town Homes on Intercoastal (in a wake zone) in Highland Beach, FL. Our Town Homes have crawl spaces that are at least 6-7' tall and run the entire length and width of our homes. Typically they are dry and dusty. In October and parts of November the tides are high, this combined with the large amount of rain we have had our crawl space was like a swamp. This made for even more moisture and a dank musty odor in our home. The only unfortunate part is Discrete Restoration does not do waterproofing or vapor barriers in basements or crawl spaces! I highly recommend them and their services

Frontier sells the top-end of the solutions for sealing a crawl space, which is a good idea in the humid Middle Tennessee climate. I was replacing the HVAC ducting and thought it was a good time to resolve the remaining water issues. Frontier had a person onsite within a few days (and the quick response was to accommodate my schedule) who did an extremely thorough inspection and detailed estimate. The person was also a long-time house inspector and I've rarely had the opportunity to work with someone as knowledgeable as he was - and the proposal reflected this. Unfortunately I was not able to go forward with the work at that time and am adopting 'watchful waiting' over the next couple of years until the current tenant's run is over. However when the time is right I will return to Frontier for a proposal update and hopefully to complete the work.
