Reviews in Atlanta to Install Water Softener

Water for Life

This company will bait and switch you, be careful when dealing with them. Please don't give them any money up front nor your credit card information. The owner of this company is dishonest and will not make things right. Quote me on one system and installed another. Left and never came back. Thief!!!

SWEETMAN'S PLUMBING SERVICE
1.0
Poorly. The install was done on an hourly basis with an expected 4 hours required. Took double that because the system needed many joints retightened because of so many leaks in initial system, further, the pipe used (3/4"PEX) now has so many small elbows and couplings (PEX couplings fit inside the pipe and restrict flow because of their reduced Inside Diameter). I now have a watertight system but cannot use 2 sinks or a sink and a toilet flush simultaneously because of the low flow through the system. Worst of all, the output pipe from the system to the main house line is hanging in midair in the middle of the room and gets bumped every time I need to get near the system (to add softener salt) Tried emailing the firm with pictures and was completely ignored on multiple occasions. Finally had to resort to calling and yelling to get someones attention. Their response? Basically "Tough Luck". I'll NEVER use or recommend them again after this fiasco. I've now had to hire a competitor to come clean up the mess Sweetmans left me with.

Jason B. did a fantastic job! The job turned out to be more difficult than anticipated but he handled each situation skillfully and professionally. Jason's tireless efforts and numerous trips into that crawl space gave me a greater appreciation for the effort involved and the competence with which the task was performed. I was also impressed with the estimating, scheduling and communication from The Pink Plumber organization. They are a first class act and Jason is one of their star performers.

There was a minor problem with the setting of the water cycling but the service call took care of that in minutes. I have had no problem and already see the benefit of having the water softener system installed.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
4.0
Called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing due to a water softener check salt light not turning off. Two men arrived and they spent about an hour working on it. They were able to get the light to turn off by adjusting the float pieces and quickly cycling through the softener stages. As soon as the softener ran a full cycle again (takes a few hours) the light was back on; nothing was actually fixed. I called them back about the problem and scheduled a new appointment. The day of the appointment, I received a call asking me if I really want them to come again. Since this wasn't a model they sell they couldn't guarantee a fix but they'd definitely be willing to keep coming out and charging me to tinker with it. Instead, they suggested their own $2200 replacement model. I cancelled the appointment. Be warned, you will be charged even if nothing is fixed. I also found their replacement water softener pricing to be very high. On the bright side, they are nice and punctual. They were also the 3rd company I called about looking at the water softener. The first two wanted nothing to do with it even though they had water softeners listed here on Angie's List as a service offered.

HIS Plumber
5.0
The date and cost are total guesses, as I can't seem to locate my records now. I did note one minor problem with the way the water softener overflow tube was connected in to the normal backflush tubing. I asked them about it and they were more than happy to come back and correct the connection at no additional charge. I would definitely use HIS Plumber again. At the same time as the original work was done, I inquired about how much it would cost to add a hot water recycle system to get hot water to some far away outlets quicker. He was more than willing to do the work if I wanted, but advised me it would be cheaper to wait until some future date when the water heater was replaced and have it added in at that time. I appreciated the effort to save me unnecessary expense and am waiting.

I was treated like a family member. I was given multiple options and advised to do the valuable option that got the job done! Not pushy and super reliable! I opted to fix my valve pressure regulator coming into the house (it was old and not regulator the city water pressure properly) and they removed our water softener.

Dave Passey Plumbing & Heating
2.0
I've used Dave Passey for 2-3 years, occasionally for work on my home, and I use them on a very regular basis at my place of work. Both experiences have left a lot to be desired. First off, at one of my stores a few weeks ago, we had a minor sink back up & the man that came out finished the job really quickly, then came out and started talking to myself and a few of my employees. He saw our Drano, & told us that he charges 3x more when he finds out someone uses Drano. We all laughed, assuming he was trying to be funny, but then he said that he really will because he always gets burned by it and went off about how horrible it is. Gloves, maybe? Kind of unprofessional. Shortly after the work incident, I had them out to install a water softener at my home. Dave bid it at $1700 for the unit and all of the plumbing to install it, which he said requires quite a bit of labor as he walked around the basement looking at the water lines. I had several other small things that he didn't give me an estimate for, but we discussed what I needed to have done. One of these little repairs was for a toilet that would leak when flushed, and had a broken handle. The technician showed up, and discovered my house was 100% plumbed and ready for soft water already (which somehow wasn't noticed before??). So, he said that they'd complete all of the other additional work, which would now be included in the $1700. I wasn't sure whether that was even a good deal or not, as they were minor repairs, but I went with it. Within the following day, the leaky toilet that had supposedly been fixed was now leaking at a fast & steady pace, whether it was being flushed or not. I finally found the time in my own schedule to contact the company about it, explained the problem, and scheduled another service call. The office lady called me the morning of the appointment to ask me again what work I needed done. She then told me she had no record of them doing this work, and they only guarantee what is on their invoice. She told me that 'A lot of people try to get free work out of us' and that isn't 'necessaaaarily' what I'm doing here, but that she has no documentation of any of this. She said they guarantee all work, but only when they have a record of it. So, basically his lack of documentation means that it's not their problem? She was so, so incredibly condescending and rude, and implied that I'm being dishonest to get free work. I even mentioned that I do A LOT of business with them, and I'd really appreciate being taken care of, to which she literally replied "I don't care". I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to, and she said No, so I asked her to have someone call me. Later, the owner called and asked me what the problem was, and he offered to set up a service call. I politely declined the offer a couple of times and told him I'd rather not continue my business with them, which seemed to agitate him. He then went on a rant about how he wants to take care of his customers (in a fairly irritated voice, of all things) and that he listened to my entire conversation with his office woman - according to him she was never rude, never raised her voice, and never made accusations, etc. He told me that everyone makes mistakes and has bad days. I thanked him for his follow up and for taking the time to call me, but told him again that I didn't want to work with his company and am not interested in scheduling the appointment. The conversation ended on a very bizarre note, with him telling me that I need to "cool down for the next day and think about things", that people say stupid things and make bad decisions when they're upset, and that this is a lesson that "he learned as a young man." What a lame, pretentious, and condescending way to treat a customer. Thanks for the advice, Dave, but I've had a day to think on things, and I am still very disappointed by the lack of guest service, correct documentation, and work performed by your company. Something I learned as a young woman is to treat people kindly, the customer is always right, and the customer is what makes a business succeed.

Plumbpros Plumbing Co

This company responds very quickly and shows up on time. The job was more expensive than what I was expecting but he gave me the price before he started the work. The plumber was not too knowledgeable or experienced with water softeners so he had to figure out some things as he went along. Because of this there was a problem with the drainage that I noticed after he left. But I called back the next day and he came right back out and took care of it. For a water softner, you might want to try another company, but if I have any other plumbing problems, I would definately call these guys back.

Recent Review: We converted from well to city water earlier in the day of replacing our water softener. We got used to soft water and decided to replace our system. Aqua Systems had a deal on a water softener plus reverse osmosis which we purchased. Our installer was Steve. He called prior to coming out and was on time. He described what all he was going to do. The city water hookup required drilling a two foot wide hole in our garage where the water softener would be installed. The cement to fill the hole was still curing, so Steve decided to install the reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink first. After the reverse osmosis system was installed, Steve helped us decide the placement of the water softener and the salt tank. We decided the best placement for the water softener tank would be on the fresh cement from the city water hookup. This was on a Friday. Steve volunteered to come back the next day after his son's baseball game and install the water softener. He lived fairly close to us but still this was on his day off. Steve was exceptionally professional. He did a wonderful job of explaining what he was doing, why he was doing it, and the nuances of both the reverse osmosis and the water softener plus the nuances of converting from well to city water. Plus he was friendly and interesting to talk with. Because he came back on his day off to work for another hour or so, I will submit a POH for Aqua Systems. Aqua Systems has been a great company to work with. They also have a drive thru lane for buying salt or bottled water, so you don't have to get out of your car. They load them for you. I have worked with another company for my previous water softener and had tons of problems with their system and sand from the well. Aqua Systems resolved that with filters and one of their water softeners. They are a magnficent company for water treatment issues.

Recent Review: Called Mark at Affordable Water--he came out at no charge to look over my old culligan water softener that seemed to no longer function--it was going though 360 lbs of salt every 2 weeks and water pressure was getting low. Mark looked over the situation and gave us a number of options including having culligan fix the unit (I have been very disappointed with Culligan the times they came to the house to fix the unit beforehand) or he could replace the unit with a new unit that they sell. I decided based on age and the product that Mark was selling was a better long term solution and decided to replace the Culligan unit with am Ultimate II D unit. This unit is demand generated which is based on how much water I use versus the old unit that was on a timer and it went off regardless of whether I needed it or not. Barry came out--called beforehand and let us know he was coming early. He removed the old unit and correctly piped in the new unit to code (the old unit was installed so close to the water heater that you could not remove the water heater element). Once the unit was installed, he tested the water and made sure water was flowing at a good water pressure throughout the house. He programmed the unit, and showed me want to do if there was a long power outage. THe area was cleaned up and everything so far has worked great. Very happy with the new unit--smaller and more compact and much much easier to operate than the old unit. Was a very no pressure sale which is nice. Everyone was very professional.
