What should have been an exciting experience turned into an extremely frustrating one defined by lies and poor workmanship. Jay Johnston installed the turf, but his initial estimates regarding how much turf we would need was incorrect. Therefore we needed to pay more to get the coverage we wanted, and he promised. The other supplies we ordered were either ordered in the wrong amount, or were never ordered. The step treads took a long time to install, and the final treads that would be used to bridge a water channel are still not in. In the beginning of May we told him to place the order for the pavers, and he confirmed the order was made. He is friends with someone at a local landscape supply company (Stovall) and I spoke with both Jay and the friend. After weeks of the getting the run around ("pavers were on back order") I went directly to Stovall. The friend showed me a computer screen and confirmed the order was placed. Nothing happened for weeks, and so I spoke with the manager of the supply company who confirmed that the order was never placed. We had been duped. Jay and the friend did what they could to "explain" what had happened, but at the end of the day they were never ordered. Further, Jay had the audacity to tell me that the order had been placed and subsequently cancelled because someone at Stovall said I had called and spoken to someone in a rude way, and they cancelled the order. Nothing could be farther from the truth as I only spoke with the friend (Tripp), and I was always polite and friendly. In any event I again spoke with the location manager who told me that the allegation was not true, and even if I had been rude they deal with rude people all the time and they never respond by cancelling orders. The order was never placed. In the meantime he delivered a couple of tons of granite material for the patio, which sat on my front lawn for weeks, and when I asked that it be moved he dumped it in my backyard where it has sat for weeks. He also installed mulch, but he ordered too little, and there is a huge patch of ground that is uncovered. Further, when pushed on the issue he said he brought what was ordered, and the empty patch is no longer empty as it is covered in weeds (but no mulch). In fact weeds are growing through the mulch all over as he put too thin a layer down. Jay promised, and promised and promised to get the work done, and we were let down every single time. He said we were his priority, but we were anything but. In sum, I cannot recommend that you use Jay for any work. Find another installer if you must use Synlawn materials, or use another turf manufacturer if an alternate installer cannot be found. Hope this helps.
