A Johnson Plumbing Heating And Air Conditioning
1.0
I contacted A Johnson plumbing & heating on 5/2/2019 due to my tankless water heater continuously tripping. The lady I spoke with when I called was great & scheduled me for first thing the next morning. Mike showed up & right off the bat told me A) it was $69.99 for him walking through my door & B) he in not so many words is pretty clueless about tankless water heaters which made me a little skeptical from the get go... he was very nice & talked me through everything he did. When he left my hot water was working again but that came to a quick end when my husband got home from work a 12hr day & ended up with a cold shower. I called the after hours line & requested to speak to the company’s owner as I was understandably frustrated for pay a couple hundred dollars to not have gotten anywhere... Mr Johnson seemed very customerable & apologetic & promised me that on Monday (I called Friday night) that he’d be to my house Monday with Mike to figure out what was going on.. Monday afternoon I received a call to let me know the earliest I’d be able to have Mike & Tony up my house was Wednesday afternoon (of course I had to accept this what else could I do?).. Wednesday rolls around & I get a call from Mike that he’s on his way to my house & Tony wouldn’t be joining him. He gets to my house & is in my basement for another 3.5 hours & tells me the company that makes my water heater says he needs to order a whole control unit & he thinks he should be able to just get a few wires..that he was going to do some research & talk to some people & hed call me back the next day with a verdict & resolution.. it’s been 5 days & I still haven’t heard anything & im STILL stuck with very short time spanned hot water! Awful customer service!!

Mike McGovern and his son Brian installed a Navian NPE-240S2 tankless water heater and removed the old 50 gallon tank. The installation required new vent piping. Mike considered several options for routing the pipes and made an extraordinary effort to implement the venting with a maximum of six elbows as specified by the manufacturer to assure adequate venting, away from windows, while still providing protection against rain. It has now been seven weeks and the new installation has performed flawlessly. I could not be more pleased with the work.

After the initial visit to inspect the house I received a quotation via email immediately. I love that kind of follow-up, it speaks volumes to me about how much a Vendor is interested in my business. The price was fair, but a bit high for my budget. When I asked if they offered any kind of extended payment plan, again the answer was received immediately. They offer a Bank approved financing & also their in-house plan, which is 50% down & six monthly interest-free payments. I liked the latter plan & it was something I could afford. The workmen came very soon afterwards & were very polite. Even though they warned me cleanup was not included in the price, there was no mess left from the work. They did not put back the articles they moved, but that was fine. I needed to reorganize anyway. What I really objected to, and must tell the owner about, is that my garage smelled of cigarette smoke and there were cigarette butts thrown in my garage pail. Needless to say some smoking went on in my garage and the garbage pails, which I keep very clean, also smelled terribly. DID NOT APPRECIATE THAT AT ALL! And there was some garbage from their lunch left on the floor..so while I would have accepted them not cleaning up any mess that that had occurred from the work, I DO NOT appreciate having to pick up their leftover wrappers, cups & plastic bottles. That's behavior that can be modified, so I still consider this to be a top-notch company and would not hesitate to use them again (probably will be doing so when my ancient central air conditioner stops working.

Tom did a site visit and provided us an estimate within 48 hours. Tom knows his craft and the local ordinances in Albany too. His proposal for the work was preferred over a previous proposal we had done by another area contractor. He followed up via email after we were slow to respond. Tom was always available on phone and email and responsive to our questions. He also provided us with suggestions on where to find and have our radiator painted. When we were ready to move forward he stopped by with contract (he was very flexible - as we had to reschedule this to later in the evening). Tom also took care of the local permitting, going to City Hall and meeting with the inspectors. He and his crew arrived on time and they were all polite and professional. They cleaned up at the end of the work days and again after the project was complete. They even worked beyond their normal time in order to get the project to the finish line. Not only does the system look great, it performs beyond expectation. They team did all the little things too which makes a big difference and less stressful as homeowners. We are thrilled by the system, the work, and the people. We know who we'll call when we need any plumbing work.

I can't say enough about Mark. In every situation I have worked with him, he is professional, respectful, calm, soft spoken, and in control of the situation. He really knows his stuff, and understands old houses (both of my buildings were 19th century) He has worked with me to get the result I wanted in the case of the water heater, and showed up quickly in emergency situations. In the case of small repairs. I always find his pricing to be extremely reasonable. And every repair he has done for us has been perfect, in the sense that no second visit has ever been required, no leaks persist, and everything works correctly. When someone is really good and reasonably priced, of course, it sometimes takes a little while to set up a time to do the work; but he has always gone the extra mile; especially in emergency situations where timely response is critical. He is my go-to person, and I would wait to get on his schedule rather than look elsewhere.

The owner called me back promptly and set up appt. for an estimate. He quoted a good price, but I still got two other estimates. Farrel bros. was the best estimate -by far in one case. They began work the following week as promised, and finished the job after two full days work.

He replaced the piping and offered to replace the cold water piping at a discounted rate even though there is no issue. He also looked at my boiler and tankless heater saying it needed to be replaced which was accurate. However, I did get a second opinion and ending up going with another company.

The receptionist who took my call was very helpful. I wanted to know if it was possible to replace the conventional tank with a tankless heater, and she set up a time for the owner to stop by and assess the issues. He showed up that day, went over the details (it wasn't possible because of my house layout/venting possibilities), gave me an estimate, and scheduled an appointment for the replacement. The two guys who did the work were fast and efficient, and easy to have in the house. The price was exactly what the owner had quoted me. It was an excellent experience overall, I highly recommend this company.
