  • Southeastern Camera - Carrboro/Chapel Hill

Southeastern Camera in Carrboro / Chapel Hill is awesome! I've been in the store frequently over the past year to purchase two cameras and associated equipment, and to have my family's entire photo collection scanned in a series of small batches. I've especially worked with Manu and Chris, who are awesome, but the whole staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and patient. They were very willing to answer all my questions, and helped me to pick out the right cameras for my needs. This is my favorite shop in all of Chapel Hill! Highly recommend

They did not charge me anything as the camera was not worth fixing. They were really honest with me which I appreciated. They were very professional and took all the information they needed. When I stopped by there to check up on the camera they said it would be ready the next day and told me the price. When I went back they said there were two problems instead of one which they found when they opened up the camera which was not worth fixing. It is a cool camera shop and the environment is nice. It is not large but is clean with a lot of cameras. I would use them again in the future

This is a review of a camera retailer, but the service provided with the sale is worthy of sharing. I was looking for a digital camera and was hoping to buy locally (rather than on the internet) so I would have a resource I could go to if I needed help along the way. I had an idea of which camera I wanted (a very capable digital camera with a long lense but not a SLR) to use on safari in Africa. Other retailers I visited didn't offer the brand I was thinking about and tried to convince me that I didn't want it but wanted something else that they sold. At Southeastern Camera in Carrboro they helped me with with the pros and cons of my selection while looking up the specifications for the camera I was thinking about. They confirmed my selection seemed right in line with my requirements. This was pretty amazing because they don't carry the brand I was looking at. They did order it for me and helped me with "add-on's" such as an additional battery, screen protectors and the best SD cards and size to meet my needs. It came in promptly. I spent time with their "photograph expert" who helped familiarize me with setup, and selections. He was so much help that I decided to purchase an hour of his time. I met him after the store closed and we spent an hour that was well worth the price. I went away comfortable and a full understanding of what I might be able to accomplish with my purchase and he went away with new information about a camera that he thought was quite outstanding! I paid more than I would have on the Internet, but I got my money's worth. I look forward to returning to Southeastern in Carrboro when I am ready to start printing my awesome digital photos

Very good. Sebastian and his staff are very polite and knowledgeable. Repaired in just a few days and for a reasonable fee. This is a great store and I would definitely go back there again.

Saved the day for my out of town "Kuching, Sawarak, Malaysia" visitors. The camera would not work. We had replaced the batteries at home. They quickly diagnosed the problem as bad batteries, which came out of a newly opened blister pack from the local chain drugstore. No charge for the diagnosis, and routine charge for the batteries. Recommended purchasing NIMH batteries in the future and recharging them at home, but did not pressure into buying them in the US with 110/60 Hz system

I needed to have the sensor on my SLR camera cleaned. I called a chain camera store in the mall and was told that they would have to send the camera off for cleaning and that it would take at least six weeks and $65. I stopped in at Peace to see what they could do. They looked at the camera and said that the sensor did need to be cleaned and "I'll be right back." A few minutes later he came back with our camera and told us that we had a couple of specks on the sensor and that he cleaned them off. He didn't charge us a thing for the cleaning. Our photos are now speck free. As we were about to leave on vacation, we were very, very pleased to have had this taken care of so easily and quickly and for free to boot

Sebastian expertly tracked down all of the problems, and did not rest until he had the camera back in good working order. He was prompt, courteous, and thoroughly professional.

This is a mom & pop shop, and they are clearly knowledgeable and good. Unfortunately, Sebastion, the owner, seems to be the only guy who does the work. So, on one hand, you have the actual craftsman reviewing the work for you -- which I really liked. On the other hand, they can be slow with the repair. In this case, I must have bent the pins sticking the memory card in, which Sebastion says happens a lot with the Canons. He fixed it, and I was happy. However, about three months later, the camera would not read the cards again and this time the pins were not bent. Sebastion said he'd have to send it off to Canon, and would refund my $75. The cost of the repair via Canon was $225, less my $75, so it cost me $150 and a few weeks without the camera. I'd continue using them, and like the local aspect of the business
